(AP) &#8211; Severe storms that crossed North Dakota overnight brought strong winds, large hail and even a tornado.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 National Weather Service reports show hail the size of golf balls in McKenzie County, the size of tennis balls in New Town and the size of baseballs in New England.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hurricane-force wind gusts as strong as 84 mph were reported in Burleigh County. Power lines were reported down in the Napoleon area in Logan County.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A tornado was spotted in the Watford City area but no damage was reported.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says, the investigation into the death of a 33 year old Jamestown man is continuing.<\/p>\n<p>The as yet unidentified man on Saturday was being followed in his vehicle by the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s units on Highway 20 about five miles north and east of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The victim\u2019s vehicle left the roadway and rolled over in a slough.<\/p>\n<p>He says it was NOT a pursuit, and there was no high speed involved.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the man\u2019s death is under investigation and an autopsy is being performed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gackle (CSi) An investigation into a unattended death in a Gackle home on Sunday night, led to the discovery of a male found dead in the basement of a home.<\/p>\n<p>A Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s deputy arrived on the scene and a coroner was called.<\/p>\n<p>He says there was no foul play suspected.<\/p>\n<p>The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family members.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Kathryn (KVLY &#8211; \u00a0CSi)\u00a0 64 dogs are recovering after being rescued from unfit conditions in Barnes County.<\/p>\n<p>KVLY reports that court records show Karl and Ginger Helland of Kathryn, North Dakota are both facing a misdemeanor animal neglect charge in the case.<\/p>\n<p>Ginger Helland was found not guilty of a similar charge in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The dogs have had a make-shift home at the Valley City Winter Show building since last week thanks to Prairie Paws Rescue<\/p>\n<p>Prairie Paws Rescue, Co-founder, Rebekah Johnson said volunteers are desperately needed.<\/p>\n<p>She said, &#8220;Usually we get a lot of volunteers right away at the beginning of these types of events, then they start to dwindle off,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;We need people throughout the next two months because that\u2019s how long we could have them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a veterinarian gave the dogs an overall wellness check.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone wishing to help may contact Prairie Paw Rescue at (701) 320-4553 or email at prairiepawsrescue@hotmail.com.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council\u2019s Finance &amp; Legal Committee, Building, Planning &amp; Zoning Committee, Civic Center &amp; Promotion Committee<\/p>\n<p>met Tuesday evening at City Hall. All members were present.<\/p>\n<p>FINANCE &amp; LEGAL COMMITTEE BUSINESS:<\/p>\n<p>Robin Iszler, from Central Valley Health District, gave an update of activities within the District. She presented highlights, and the Executive Summary.<\/p>\n<p>She said they are 22 staff members, and received accreditation last year, for five years.<\/p>\n<p>She said the District will hold a Kids Safety Day on July 29, 2016 downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Sports physicals for the schools are being scheduled at CVHD.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>The committee considered the request from JEDS, LLC for funding from the Economic Development Fund for a Flex PACE Interest Buy Down loan, in the amount up to $125,000, with the City Share to be $100,000 and paid from the City Sales Tax Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The business plans to build a 12 station freight warehouse, hub, in Jamestown, with five jobs projected. Attorney Myhre said the major change concerns signs. It includes signage relative to the size and placement of political signs, without restricting free speech rights.<\/p>\n<p>Approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 1012, an ordinance recodifying Title 16, Land Subdivision Regulations<i>.<\/i> Attorney Myhre said the Ordinance deals with new developments in the city including annexations, and plats. It includes issues of new streets, placement of alleys and to provide with legislative intent, for sidewalks where practical. And provides for due process for citizens input.<\/p>\n<p>NEW BUSINESS<\/p>\n<p>Approved the Visitor\u2019s Committee request to approve paying Youth Sports Complex, $2,958.86 out of the Food and Beverage Grant Funds approved for the two new shared-use paths.<\/p>\n<p>City Commissioners approved changing the city\u2019s credit card service from Wells Fargo Visa to North Dakota State\u2019s Purchasing MasterCard. Finance Director Richter explained the benefits.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The City Commission approved City Hall as the polling place for the President of Valley City Commission special election to be held on September 15, 2016. Finance Director Richter said all five city precincts will vote at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioners approved the Mill Dam Grant received from ND State Water Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Approved the 2017 Infrastructure Construction projects and direct KLJ to prepare contracts.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Approved the cost share application with ND State Water Commission for Phase II Permanent Flood Protection, Phase III buyouts, and a storage building for the removable flood walls.<\/p>\n<p>Before the vote, City Attorney Myhre said by abstaining Commissioner Luke was breaking the Roberts Rules of Orders, and may face personal liabilities. She voted Nay, while the remainder of commissioners voted in favor and passed.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Luke indicated that she did not have enough information to participate in the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Tabled the purchasing a truck for Public Works from Nelson Auto Center, Inc. in the amount of $116,472, until the next City Commission meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Approved a Proposed Water Treatment Plant study by UND Dept. of Engineers, with input from other river cities.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>CITY ADMINISTRATORS REPORT<\/p>\n<p>David Schelkoph attended an Upper Sheyenne River Basin Resource Board meeting to discuss erosion issues, and releases from Devils Lake, based on the Lake\u2019s water level.<\/p>\n<p>The sale of a bucket truck and front end loader will be placed on the auction site, &#8220;Bid to Go,&#8221; as previous bid offers on the equipment were lower than the reserve amount.<\/p>\n<p>CITY UPDATE &amp; COMMISSION REPORTS<\/p>\n<p>City Finance Director, Avis Richter said the Special City Commission reorganizational meeting is set for June 28, 2016, at 8-a.m., where the incoming Commissioners will receive the oath of office, and portfolios will be assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioners Luke and Nielson were recognized for their service on the City Commission,<\/p>\n<p>four years for Luke and 10 years for Nielson serving as City Commissioner and Mayor.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was shown live on CSi 68, followed by replays.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0\u00a0 Charlie Tanata Tuesday resigned as president of the Frontier Village Association.<\/p>\n<p>At a special meeting of the board, Tanata said he would stay on the board.<\/p>\n<p>The official meeting was called to review Maintenance Supervisor Mike Schlecht&#8217;s job performance, to which Tanata objected.<\/p>\n<p>Tanata called an informal meeting to discuss options to renovating the Frontier Village Amphitheater.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Board of Realtors has released May 2016 numbers concerning the housing market.<\/p>\n<p>Active residential listings are up 24% in May this year, with 88 sales compared to 98 a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Median sales price of properties was $142,000, an increase from $134,500 in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Property on the market shows a median figure of 77 days compared to 38 days in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The board reports that, &#8220;Overall prices remain steady and there is a larger selection of inventory available. Interest rates remain historically low.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The board consists of Jamestown, Valley City, Carrington, LaMoure, Edgeley, Ellendale and Medina.<\/p>\n<p>All realtors are members of the National Association of Realtors.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Jamestown (NDHP-CSi)\u00a0 Last Friday and Saturday, troopers conducted alcohol saturation patrols in Barnes County. A sobriety checkpoint was held on Saturday. Two were arrested for the charge of driving under the influence. One was charged with minor in consumption. A total of 63 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint with two drivers evaluated for impairment. Nineteen citations were issued.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) The Great Plains Food Bank, Summer Food Service Program is available in Valley City, now through August 19, except for July 4th.<\/p>\n<p>Those age 18 and younger are invited to eat free at Epworth United Methodist Church Monday \u2013 Friday from noon to 12:30 p.m. There are no income guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Epworth United Methodist Church is at 8th Avenue Southwest in Valley City just south of Washington Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p>The program is available now through August 19, except for July 4.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County 4-Hers are planning events and activities before and during the Stutsman County Fair.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Robin Barnes from the NDSU Extension Service, Stutsman County office, pointed out that events and activities at the fairgrounds start Tuesday June 28, 2016, at the Old Merchants Building. Activities include 4-H Club interviews, and ribbons awarded, followed that evening by 4-H Family Fun Night.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights on June 29<sup>th<\/sup> includes poultry and rabbit shows.<\/p>\n<p>On June 30<sup>th<\/sup> it\u2019s the Horse, Sheep, Goat and Swine Shows.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday July 1<sup>st<\/sup>, at 4:30-p.m., it\u2019s The Parade of Champions at the Livestock Arena, at 6-p.m., it\u2019s the Market Livestock Premium Auction Sale.<\/p>\n<p>Other fair events include, the Old Timer\u2019s Showmanship Contest, on Friday July 1, following the Market Livestock Premium Sale. Contestants pay a $10 donation\/entry fee, with the proceeds going to the Stutsman County 4-H Livestock Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday July 2<sup>nd<\/sup> marks the return of &#8220;Who\u2019s Got The Fastest Wiener Dog? contest, at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>The contest is open to the entire community, with a $5 entry fee going toward the 4-H program. The sign up starts at 4-p.m., in the Livestock Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Dogs must be leashed, and must show the rabies certificate\/tag to participate.<\/p>\n<p>The Rabbit Breeders Show is also that day.<\/p>\n<p>Also on July 2<sup>nd<\/sup> is the new Central Rabbit Breeders Single Open Show is at the Rabbit and Poultry Barn entries open at 7:30-.m., and close at 9-a.m., with judging at 9:30-a.m. Breeds will be sanctioned by donation only. (AP) &#8211; Fire has destroyed a grain elevator in Sheyenne.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The \u00a0blaze at the Equity Co-op Elevator was reported about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Spokesman Fritz Wetzel says dust and grain fueled the fire.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 50 firefighters from Sheyenne, Carrington and New Rockford battled the blaze but couldn&#8217;t save the structure.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire wasn&#8217;t immediately determined.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the grain bin fire, at Sheyenne, the\u00a0NDDOT and North Dakota Highway Patrol have temporarily closed U.S. Highway 281 from N.D. Highway 57 to just north of N.D. Highway 15 to all truck traffic.\u00a0\u00a0All trucks 80,000 pounds or more must take an alternate route. Local traffic is being detoured on city streets<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration says a worker was killed after being struck by a crane boom at an oil well site in western North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0The incident late Monday near Ross in Mountrail County was the second oilfield-related death in North Dakota&#8217;s oil patch in the past week.<br \/>\n\u00a0OSHA says the 36-year-old man killed Monday worked for Advance Energy, a Michigan-based drilling contractor.<br \/>\n\u00a0The company refused comment.<br \/>\n\u00a0The federal agency also is investigating the cause of an explosion and fire at an oil well near Watford City on Saturday that killed a 52-year-old Wyoming man and seriously injured two others.<br \/>\n\u00a0OSHA says the latest death brings to 50 the number of oilfield-related fatalities in North Dakota since late 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Ward County commissioners have appointed an interim sheriff and decided to give full pay to suspended Sheriff Steve Kukowski while his criminal case proceeds.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kukowski faces misdemeanor charges of refusing to perform a public duty and reckless endangerment in the October 2014 death of 25-year-old jail inmate Dustin Irwin. Kukowski maintains his innocence and is scheduled for trial in August.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple suspended Kukowski last week when he returned from a medical leave. County commissioners a few days later reinstated Kukowski over concerns that he might have been treated unfairly in the suspension process.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple on Monday appointed a special commissioner to oversee the suspension. The commission on Tuesday appointed Chief Deputy Bob Barnard as interim sheriff, and decided to continue paying Kukowski his regular monthly salary of $9,405.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A former sergeant at the Williams County Correctional Center who pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge has been sentenced to serve 14 years in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Attorney Christopher Myers said Tuesday that 50-year-old Steven Brooks&#8217; prison time will be followed by 20 years of supervised release.
