\u00a0WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – A McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office corporal accused of using his vehicle to crash into a fleeing motorcycle has been acquitted on a felony reckless endangerment charge.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Travis Bateman was cleared Wednesday in Watford City.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bateman allegedly injured the motorcycle driver and a passenger in the incident.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An attorney for Bateman didn’t immediately respond to a telephone message requesting comment from The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is taking the fight over the state’s law restricting new power generation from coal to a higher court.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s decision last week that barred Minnesota from enforcing key sections of the Next Generation Energy Act. The court sided with North Dakota utilities and other interests that argued illegally regulates out-of-state utilities.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dayton announced on Wednesday his intent to appeal that ruling. He argues it doesn’t illegally restrict new coal-powered plants but merely requires that they be offset by reductions at existing plants.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Democratic governor says it’s a matter of protecting air quality. But the federal appeals court said Minnesota would need Congressional approval to enforce that section of the 2007 law.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Extra law enforcement patrols across North Dakota over the Memorial Day holiday period resulted in just under 2,000 citations.
\n\u00a0Forty-eight agencies took part in the extra patrols May 23 through June 5 that were aimed at seat belt enforcement.
\n\u00a0The state Transportation Department says 1,995 tickets were issued, including 695 for failure to use a proper safety restraint. There were 739 tickets for speeding. There were 18 drug arrests and five citations for driving under the influence.
\n\u00a0Federal grant money funded the extra patrols.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota has unveiled its Fighting Hawks logo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It depicts a white hawk head with black shading and a black eye, atop the letters “ND” in green. UND also unveiled a “North Dakota Fighting Hawks” wordmark, or descriptive name, to enhance the new graphic identity.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Grand Forks school retired its controversial Fighting Sioux nickname nearly four years ago after the NCAA deemed it to be hostile and abusive.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Fighting Hawks nickname was selected in a vote of alumni, students and staff. It beat out Roughriders, Nodaks, Sundogs and North Stars, and has been in use since late last year.

NEW YORK (AP) – Donald Trump is laying out a number of goals for the first 100 days of his potential presidential administration. He says he’d “appoint judges who uphold the Constitution,” reform the nation’s immigration policies and repeal the Affordable Care Act. And in a swipe at Hillary Clinton, he says he would “impose tough new ethics rules to restore dignity to the office of the secretary of state.” Trump’s speech Wednesday at a hotel he owns in Manhattan was largely a wide-ranging attack on Clinton.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 UNDATED (AP) – Bernie Sanders is all but acknowledging that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee. The Vermont senator tells C-SPAN, “It doesn’t appear that I’m going be the nominee.” But he is urging Clinton to pick a running mate who he considers to be liberal. He says it would be a “terrible mistake for her to go to a candidate who has roots in Wall Street or has been backed by Wall Street.” The senator says he expects to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – Officials say a small plane with two sick workers has arrived at a British station in Antarctica. It’s the first leg in a daring rescue mission from a remote U.S. station at the South Pole. The next step is for the two patients to be flown off the continent, probably to South America, for further medical care. That could happen later today or tomorrow, depending on weather conditions and the workers’ health.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PITTSBURGH (AP) – A former American Airlines operations manager has pleaded guilty in Pittsburgh to a federal interstate child-sex charge. Prosecutors agreed to recommend a 10-year prison term for Ray Howland. He was arrested near Pittsburgh International Airport last June by an undercover agent who posed as a woman with a 10-year-old daughter. Howland had posted online that he was “looking for a family or a couple of girls” for sex while in town on business. While working at American Airlines on 9\/11, Howland learned of the first hijacking before the jet struck the World Trade Center.
