Recently the campaign to construct the new chapel, and the McCoy Family hospice suite was completed.<\/p>\n

Washington (CSi) Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration has awarded two grants totaling $166,500 to the Rugby Municipal Airport Authority and the Jamestown Regional Airport Authority.<\/p>\n

The funds are awarded as follows:<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Jamestown Regional Airport Authority \u2013 $81,000 \u2013 To fund a wildlife hazard assessment and plan to identify and mitigate wildlife species that have been observed in the area.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Rugby Municipal Airport Authority \u2013 $85,500 \u2013 To fund the design of the full rehabilitation of Runway 12\/30\u2019s lighting system, which requires rehabilitation in order to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions. The funds will also go towards maintaining the structural integrity of the pavement on Runway 12\/30, Taxiway A and the apron.<\/p>\n

Hoeven says, “It\u2019s important to invest in projects that help to ensure the safety of passengers and pilots in North Dakota\u2019s airports. Today\u2019s grants will support projects aimed at doing just that at Rugby Municipal and Jamestown Regional Airports.”<\/p>\n

Jamestown Regional Airport is being studied as an additional location for Valley Med Flight air ambulance operations from Grand Forks.<\/p>\n

The company is looking at if it should purchase a hangar on airport property. The offered purchase agreement is $210,000.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Airport Manager Sam Seafeldt says the business would create jobs in the area, with four FT pilots, four FT air EMTs, one FT helicopter mechanic, two PT air EMT\u2019s.<\/p>\n

A decision on the project is expected next month.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have identified a 63-year-old man who died after crashing into a bridge guard rail on Interstate 29 in southeastern North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol said Wednesday that Dennis Herr of Fargo was traveling south in the northbound lanes, and his car drifted onto the shoulder and hit the guard rail about 6 miles south of Fargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Herr died at the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was alone in the car.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2013 A new housing study predicts North Dakota\u2019s population will grow to 891,000 people by 2029.<\/p>\n

North Dakota Housing Finance Agency Executive Director Jolene Kline told the state Industrial Commission on Tuesday that the 20 percent population increase will continue to put pressure on affordable housing for low-income residents.<\/p>\n

Kline told the panel that North Dakota\u2019s economy is still strong, despite a downturn in oil and crop prices.<\/p>\n

The state Housing Finance Agency commissioned the study done by North Dakota State University researchers. The study says North Dakota\u2019s urban centers will see the most growth.<\/p>\n

Kline says the region that includes Jamestown and Valley City is the only area where the population is predicted to decline by 2029.\u00a0<\/strong> She says the Devils Lake area is forecast to remain flat.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Arts Center is hosting a Special Presentation, by Guillermo “Memo” Guadia www.moguya.com<\/a> on Thursday July 28, 2016, at 12 noon.<\/p>\n

As part of Memo\u2019s artist fellowship he received from North Dakota Council on the Arts, he will be presenting about his artwork and what it has been like to be a studio artist over the last year. Memo left his position at the Museum of Art in Grand Forks last year to become a full-time studio artist.<\/p>\n

Memo has been working out of Muddy Waters Clay studio in Grand Forks developing a large body of sculpture pieces. Most of his works are inspired by his Peruvian culture, his life journey, and the current political climate. Family friendly. Free and open to the public. Feel free to bring a sack lunch.<\/p>\n

Memo is in Jamestown all week teaching summer ceramics for children.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The Fargo-Moorhead Derby Girls and the Rock City Riot Men\u2019s Derby league are hosting a special co-ed roller derby mixer in Valley City on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Valley City Youth Complex, at 940 Central Avenue, North. Doors open at 5-p.m. with the bout getting underway at 5:30-p.m<\/p>\n

“SkateWars,” is a coed mixer with a Star Wars theme.<\/p>\n

Those attending are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character.<\/p>\n

The roller derby will help raise funds for the family of Jason Martis, who recently lost his cancer battle.<\/p>\n

As a derby player he was called Sacre Bleu, and was a Star Wars fan, that inspired the theme.<\/p>\n

Tickets are Adults $8, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and kids under 6 are free. A free-will donation for the Martis family will be accepted during the bout.<\/p>\n

An after party event, will be open to the public at Boomers Corner Keg.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Parks and Recreation Director, Doug Hogan says, Amy Walters has accepted an offer as the Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) Facilities Manager.<\/p>\n

She was offered the job on Monday this week, unanimously approved by the Park Board. Hogan indicated that Walters\u2019 experience and qualifications gave her an advantage over other applicants for the position, and will began her position in the latter half of August this year.<\/p>\n

Walters, is Director of Student Services and School Health Coordinator for South East Educational Cooperative.<\/p>\n

\u3000GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (AP) – A major defense contractor and anchor tenant in the nation’s first unmanned aircraft business and technology park is up and flying in North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 California-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. has opened a flight training academy in the Grand Sky drone park. A ceremony is scheduled Thursday to mark the company’s first Predator drone flight at the facility located on the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 General Atomics signed a lease agreement last fall. The company built a temporary hangar so it could begin flying as quickly as possible, in order to fill the need for unmanned aircraft pilots and separate its training operations from testing and production.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Grand Sky Development Corp. president Thomas Swoyer Jr. says General Atomics helped develop procedures and guidelines for the new unmanned airport.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A judge has declined to dismiss a lawsuit against North Dakota’s State Health Council over an alleged illegal meeting during which the group approved new rules for radioactive waste.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Health Council earlier this month said it will redo the August 2015 meeting. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem had said in March that the council violated state law by not providing adequate notice of the meeting.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The attorney for environmental groups that sued in April said she plans to press forward despite the do-over meeting scheduled Aug. 9.

\u00a0MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Oil and Gas Division says a lightning strike at a saltwater disposal well in McKenzie County led to the release of 92,400 gallons of brine.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bosque Disposal Systems LLC reported Monday that the 2,200 barrels of brine was contained and recovered at the site about 7 miles northwest of Mandaree.\u00a0 A barrel holds 42 gallons.

(AP) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp missed the roll-call vote at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia because of “previous commitments.” A statement from Heitkamp’s office says she “strongly supports” presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Sanders delegates have criticized Heitkamp for not endorsing the Vermont senator, who outpolled Clinton more than 2-to-1 at North Dakota caucus sites last month.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0Robert Davis did planning work for the Royal Commission in Saudi Arabia and helped Detroit with recovery from the Great Recession. In Minot, one of his main duties will be helping the community recover from the devastating 2011 Souris River Flood.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Minot is getting $74 million through the Housing and Urban Development’s National Disaster Resiliency Competition to help recover from the flood that caused $700 million in damage. The city has six years to spend the money.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Former City Planner Carter Thompson resigned in March after less than a month on the job, criticizing the city for what she called an inequitable administration of zoning codes. The city’s engineer and manager said Thompson’s accusations were groundless.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The mayor of Grand Forks is traveling to a Norwegian sister city to celebrate its 1,000th birthday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayor Michael Brown and his wife depart Wednesday for the festivities in Norway’s Sarpsborg, which has been a sister city of Grand Forks officially since 2005.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayors of Sarpsborg’s other sister cities, as well as Norwegian officials are expected to attend the celebration.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brown says he’s “honored and humbled” to represent Grand Forks at the event. Since becoming sister cities, the two have mostly focused on education and cultural efforts at public schools and the University of North Dakota.

(AP) – American Indians in North Dakota say they will continue to protest the $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois, even after the Army Corps of Engineers approved most of the final permits needed for the project. Native Americans have been staging a nonviolent protest for months at a “spirit camp” established by the Standing Rock Sioux at the confluence of the Cannonball and Missouri rivers.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – President Ronald Reagan’s daughter is criticizing a judge’s decision to allow the release of John Hinckley Jr. from the psychiatric hospital where he’s been confined for more than 35 years after he tried to assassinate Reagan. Patti Davis says in a lengthy statement on her website that she will “forever be haunted” by the day her father almost died in 1981. A judge ruled Wednesday that Hinckley is no longer a danger and can live full-time with his mother in Virginia.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 METAIRIE, La. (AP) – A surveillance video captured the fatal shooting of a suspect who pointed what appears to be a gun at a sheriff’s deputy in a New Orleans suburb. The shooting happened late Tuesday at a warehouse of The Times-Picayune newspaper. The video posted on the paper’s website shows the suspect pointing what looks like a firearm toward the deputy before being shot.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MIAMI (AP) – Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, did a terrible job as governor of New Jersey. He says Kaine “was not very popular in New Jersey, and he still isn’t.” The problem of course, is that Kaine was governor of Virginia, not New Jersey. Trump may be confusing him with former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean (kayn), who led the state from 1982 to 1990 while Trump was building his casino empire in Atlantic City. He was a Republican.
