(AP) \u2014 Three finalists have been named for Williston’s newly created city administrator position.<\/p>\nOfficials in May posted the job that will include such duties as overseeing budgets in the western North Dakota oil patch hub. The Williston Herald reports that the city received 23 applications from people in 13 states.<\/p>\n
The three finalists will take part in a meet-and-greet session on Aug. 25.<\/p>\n
The finalists are Williston Public Works Director David Tuan; Fremont, Nebraska, Planning Director Troy Anderson; and Sister Bay, Wisconsin, Village Administrator Zeke Jackson.<\/p>\n
Whoever is chosen will start work before the new year.<\/p>\n

(CSi) The 2016 Dacotah Bank\/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Coaches Preseason Poll was announced Monday.\u00a0 Dickinson State (N.D.) is the preseason coaches\u2019 pick to win this year\u2019s football title.\u00a0 The preseason poll was voted by the league\u2019s head coaches.<\/p>\n
The Blue Hawks registered four first-place votes and collected 45 points in the NSAA Football Coaches\u2019 Preseason Poll.\u00a0 Dickinson State won the 2015 Dacotah Bank\/NSAA Football conference title last season with a 5-1 record and qualified for the NAIA Football Championship Series, losing to Montana Tech in the opening round. Dickinson State was also voted into The NAIA Preseason Top 25 National Poll, The Blue Hawks were ranked #21.<\/p>\n
Valley City State (N.D.) finished second in the poll with 39 points.\u00a0 Dakota State (S.D.) picked up the final three first-place votes and earned 37 points to finish third in the poll.\u00a0 The Vikings and Trojans finished tied for second-place with a 4-2 record in the conference standings last season.<\/p>\n
Jamestown (N.D.) was predicted to finish fourth in the preseason poll after recording 28 points.\u00a0 Presentation (S.D.) edged Mayville State (N.D.) 18-17 to finish fourth.\u00a0 Waldorf (Iowa) placed seventh with 12 points.<\/p>\n
To earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Football Playoffs, a team need to be in the \u2018Top 20\u2032 in the national poll and win the conference title.<\/p>\n
Jamestown and Valley City State will kick off the football season on Aug. 25 in Valley City, N.D.\u00a0 The following day (Aug. 26), Dakota State will begin their season at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).\u00a0 Two NSAA teams will open season on Aug. 27 with Waldorf visiting Briar Cliff (Iowa) and Dickinson State taking on Montana Western.<\/p>\n
Both Mayville State and Presentation football teams will open season on Sept. 3.<\/p>\n
The NSAA conference season kicks off on Sept. 24 with Jamestown visiting Dakota State, Valley City State hosting Waldorf and Presentation traveling to Dickinson State.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Five-time defending national champion North Dakota State is ranked No. 1 in both Football Championship Subdivision preseason polls.<\/p>\nThe Bison got all 25 first-place votes in the coaches poll, and all but six of the 158 first-place votes in the STATS media poll.<\/p>\n
The rest of the top five is the same in both polls \u2014 Sam Houston State, Jacksonville State, Richmond and Northern Iowa.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani says some text<\/span> messages he sent regarding now-rescinded media guidelines for covering Bison athletics were “not appropriate.”<\/p>\nBresciani in a campus-wide email Monday also continued to maintain that he wasn’t consulted on the guidelines that were roundly criticized by journalists and on social media before NDSU scrapped them.<\/p>\n
Text<\/span> messages from Bresciani to Athletic Director Matt Larsen that were obtained by blogger Rob Port appeared to contradict Bresciani’s Aug. 2 statement that he was “profoundly disappointed” when he learned about the guidelines.<\/p>\nBresciani in his email acknowledged initially supporting the guidelines but added he came to realize his understanding of them “was not accurate” and that “my initial support was misplaced.”<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with long snapper Kevin McDermott.<\/p>\nThe deal, first reported by the NFL Network, runs through the 2020 season with a maximum value of $4 million. Coach Mike Zimmer confirmed the agreement after practice Monday.<\/p>\n
McDermott is entering his second season with the Vikings, after unseating last year veteran Cullen Loeffler, who then was the longest-tenured player on the team. The UCLA product long-snapped for San Francisco in 2013 and Baltimore in 2014 before signing with Minnesota. He has appeared in 39 NFL games, plus four in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

The 42-year-old has donated some of the gear he wore when he collected his 3,000th career hit Sunday. The gifts include his jersey, a pair of cleats, his arm guard and batting gloves. Hall president Jeff Idelson received the items before Monday’s game between Ichiro’s Miami Marlins and the San Francisco Giants.<\/p>\n

Dirt track racer dies after crash..<\/p>\n
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 Dirt track racer and four-time US Auto Club national champion Bryan Clauson has died at age 27 from injuries suffered in an accident Saturday night.<\/p>\n
Clauson was leading the race when he crashed passing lapped traffic. His car rolled and was hit by another competitor. Clauson had 27 victories in 116 starts this year and led three laps in the Indianapolis 500 in May.<\/p>\n

DALLAS (AP) \u2014 Delta’s travails, and those of its customers, move into day two with the airline canceling nearly 250 flights.<\/p>\n
The cancellations Tuesday follow about 1,000 cancelled flights Monday and almost 3,000 delayed flights after an outage at its Atlanta headquarters initiated a global meltdown of its booking and communications systems.<\/p>\n
The airline was back online after a number of hours Monday, but the outages were so widespread that it is still dealing with the ripple effects a day later.<\/p>\n
The airline posted a video apology by CEO Ed Bastian. And it offered refunds and $200 in travel vouchers to people whose flights were canceled or delayed at least three hours.<\/p>\n
Delta’s challenge on Tuesday will be to find enough seats on planes during the busy summer vacation season to accommodate the tens of thousands of passengers whose flights were scrubbed. Last month, the average Delta flight was 87 percent full.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Police in Florida say a woman told them she was having trouble with transients near a car wash her family owns after they arrested her for allegedly allowing her three sons to shoot BBs at a homeless man near a gas station. News outlets report 36-year-old Amina El-Zayat of DeLand, Florida was arrested Sunday on aggravated battery, contributing to the delinquency of minors and child neglect charges.<\/p>\n
