HIGHS IN THE MID 70S.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to Legacy Center in Downtown Jamestown in the 3-O\u2019Clock hour, on Friday, to a call of a person trapped in an elevator that had stopped working due to a power outage in the building.<\/p>\n<p>Six Fire fighters were dispatched from the fire hall to the scene, at 3:20-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>City Fire Chief Jim Reuther said the elevator stopped between the second and third floors, about a foot below the third floor.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ckey\u201d to manually open the elevator was unavailable, so CSi photographer Thomas Ravely retrieved an elevator \u201ckey\u201d from the CSi Technology Center at Historic Franklin, \u00a0which allowed the doors to be opened. \u00a0 Hats off to Tom for his quick thinking.<\/p>\n<p>The female inside was then able to leave the elevator car, unhurt.<\/p>\n<p>He said the firefighters cleared the scene about 3:57-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The James Valley Street Machines have set Saturday September 24, 2016 for the 6ht Annual Car show, at Wilhelm Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, on Business Loop West in Jamestown\u00a0 in conjunction with sponsor,\u00a0 Stutsman Harley-Davidson in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Again this year proceeds will benefit the Huntington Disease Society of American in memory of the late Dan Wilhelm.<\/p>\n<p>The car\/bike set up is from 8-a.m. to 10-a.m., with the show running from 10-a.m., to 3-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Car\/Bike donations:\u00a0 Register before September 15<sup>th<\/sup>, $10\u2026after that date, $15.<\/p>\n<p>5K Run\/Walk set up 7-a.m. to 8-a.m., the run is from 8-a.m., to 10-a.m.<\/p>\n<p>5K:\u00a0 Register before September 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u2026Adults $20 youth 12 and under $15, Seniors 60 and over $15.<\/p>\n<p>Register after September 15<sup>th<\/sup> Adults $25, Youth 12 and under $20 seniors 60 and over $20.<\/p>\n<p>Again all registration fees will be donated to the Huntington Disease Society of America.<\/p>\n<p>Plaques will be given for all cars while supplies last.<\/p>\n<p>Cash awards will be given to winners in various categories, such as three Show Stoppers, three Peoples Choice and an Owners Choice, Award.<\/p>\n<p>For more information contact Steve Skovy Jaskoviak at\u00a0 701-252-2950 ext. 113, or 701-202-7067.<\/p>\n<p>A cure is yet to be found, as Huntington\u2019s disease is an inherited brain disorder that results in the progressive loss of mental faculties and physical control.<\/p>\n<p>An individual who has been diagnosed with Huntington\u2019s disease will eventually die from pneumonia, heart failure or other complications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Arthur (CSi) U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp Friday announced $513,959 in federal funding to support new and beginning farmers through the Foundation for Agricultural and Resources Management program in <strong>Medina.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heitkamp says, \u201cFarmers and ranchers that are just starting out must have a solid footing on which to build their futures. With the average age of farmers increasing, it is more important than ever that the next generation is prepared to handle farming and ranching operations that will continue to feed not only North Dakota and our nation, but the rest of the world as well. This federal funding will help provide information, training, and technical assistance to our beginning farmers and ranchers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation for Agricultural and Resources Management program in Medina is a nonprofit founded in 2000 that works to provided education resources that support sustainable rural development for North Dakota\u2019s farmers and ranchers.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last two days, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heitkamp.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=79965064-F991-4271-8E81-3A8FED306BD0\">Heitkamp has toured North Dakota<\/a> talking with farmers and ranchers, including the next generation, about issues important to them in the current farm bill that she fought to pass and to begin the discussion on work that will need to be done in the next farm bill in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>These federal funds are made available through the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, an agency of U.S. Department of Agriculture. (AP) \u2014 A former longtime general manager accused of embezzling from the Grand Hotel in Minot is set for trial early next year.<\/p>\n<p>67-year-old James Mello is to stand trial in state district court Feb. 6-10.<\/p>\n<p>Mello is accused of stealing more than $40,000 over a two-year period. He&#8217;s pleaded not guilty to a felony theft charge that carries a potential punishment of 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Mello retired in 2015 after 43 years as the hotel&#8217;s manager.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Williston police are investigating a rash of vehicle vandalism.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say they&#8217;ve received reports of spray paint damage to about 15 vehicles and five other properties this week.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Lt. Dave Peterson says\u00a0 the vandalism that includes vulgar language and symbols appears to be random and not targeted.<\/p>\n<p>Peterson says &#8220;senseless acts of vandalism can be difficult to solve.&#8221; Residents with information are being urged to contact police.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Hiring has been strong in the past year in many presidential campaign swing states, a possible hurdle for GOP candidate Donald Trump, who has sought to capitalize on economic distress.<\/p>\n<p>The Labor Department says employers have added jobs in the past 12 months at a faster pace than the national average in Colorado, Florida, Michigan and North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Job gains have been solid but slightly below the national rate in other battleground states, such as Ohio and Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Hiring rose significantly in 15 states in July compared with the previous month, the government said. The biggest percentage gains were in<strong> North Dakota,<\/strong> Vermont and Maine. The only state to lose a large number of jobs in July was Kansas, which shed 5,600.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A judge on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is retiring from his position as a federal appellate court judge.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Kermit Bye says his full retirement is effective Sept. 1. He has served on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals since April 22, 2000, and maintained his chambers in Fargo, North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Bye served as an active judge for 15 years before taking &#8220;senior status&#8221; on the court in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The 8th Circuit includes Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The University of North Dakota is looking for ways to save money in its athletic department, and it could include a change in conference affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>New school President Mark Kennedy is taking inventory of athletics after the department ended the fiscal year with a shortfall of about $1.4 million. He has ordered a campus committee to analyze several factors, including the number of sports, cost of the programs and the conference landscape.<\/p>\n<p>The Fighting Hawks are members of the Big Sky Conference, which has 11 full-time members and five affiliate members who do not participate in all of the league&#8217;s core sports. The three other Division I programs in the Dakotas participate in the Summit League for most sports and the Missouri Valley Football Conference for football.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>NEW ORLEANS (AP) \u2014 The NBA has chosen to hold the 2017 All-Star Game in New Orleans after taking the midseason event away from North Carolina because of a state law that limits anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people.<\/p>\n<p>The league announced Friday that New Orleans would replace Charlotte, which had been set to host the game until the NBA decided last month to move it elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike several other Southern states, Louisiana has not been swept up in legislative efforts to pass laws similar to that in North Carolina \u2014 a fact Gov. When a woman told Trump she was happy he wasn&#8217;t off playing golf, Trump replied: &#8220;Somebody is.&#8221; As Trump visited the flood area, Hillary Clinton posted that the relief effort &#8220;can&#8217;t afford any distractions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Hillary Clinton campaign says the resignation of Paul Manafort as Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign chairman is a result of what the Clinton camp calls &#8220;disturbing connections&#8221; between Trump and pro-Kremlin elements in Russia and Ukraine. Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook says Manafort&#8217;s departure doesn&#8217;t end what Mook calls &#8220;the odd bromance &#8220;between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>MILWAUKEE (AP) \u2014 The Milwaukee County medical examiner says an autopsy shows that a black man fatally shot by a Milwaukee police officer was hit once in the chest and once in the arm. The autopsy results for 23-year-old Sylville Smith match the account given by police and city leaders. Smith&#8217;s death Saturday afternoon spurred two nights of violence on the city&#8217;s north side. Police say he had fled a traffic stop, was armed with a handgun and turned toward an officer when he was shot.<\/p>\n<p>SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) \u2014 A preliminary assessment shows 96 single-family homes have been destroyed by a huge Southern California wildfire. A fire spokesman also says 213 outbuildings have been destroyed. Firefighters have made significant progress but the fire continues to burn about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>GENEVA (AP) \u2014 The United Nations says the Syrian Arab Red Crescent has evacuated up to 39 people who need urgent medical treatment from two Syrian towns under siege. Several children were among those evacuated. One town, near Damascus, is held by rebels and is under siege by government forces and their allies. The other, in northern Syria, is held by the government and is besieged by opposition fighters.
