With the average age of farmers increasing, it is more important than ever that the next generation is prepared to handle farming and ranching operations that will continue to feed not only North Dakota and our nation, but the rest of the world as well. This federal funding will help provide information, training, and technical assistance to our beginning farmers and ranchers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation for Agricultural and Resources Management program in Medina is a nonprofit founded in 2000 that works to provided education resources that support sustainable rural development for North Dakota\u2019s farmers and ranchers.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last two days, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heitkamp.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=79965064-F991-4271-8E81-3A8FED306BD0\">Heitkamp has toured North Dakota<\/a> talking with farmers and ranchers, including the next generation, about issues important to them in the current farm bill that she fought to pass and to begin the discussion on work that will need to be done in the next farm bill in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>These federal funds are made available through the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, an agency of U.S. Department of Agriculture. At least two neighbors said that it appeared the man had entered the home and stabbed the woman and then slashed his own throat.<\/p>\n<p>Police have not confirmed that as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BOWMAN, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Three people are in custody after a man was found dead in a motel in Bowman over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Police say housekeeping staff at the El-Vu Motel found the body of a male from rural Bowman about midday Saturday. Authorities have ruled the death a homicide. They haven&#8217;t identified the victim. An autopsy is planned.<\/p>\n<p>A man from Bowman, woman from Bowman and a man from Minnesota are in custody. They also were not immediately identified.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman is a small town in the southwestern corner of North Dakota. About 1,650 people live there.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Fargo police say a motorist who died after his car crashed into a house likely suffered a medical problem before losing control of his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The car driven by 60-year-old Fargo resident Keith McDougall went over four lawns and crashed into the house on Friday afternoon. He was taken to a hospital and later died.<\/p>\n<p>Two people inside the home and two children in a neighbor&#8217;s yard were not hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>GARRISON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A man from Garrison drowned when the truck he was in went off a road and into the McClusky Canal in McLean County over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Sheriff&#8217;s Office tells The Bismarck Tribune that other occupants in the vehicle were able to escape, but the Garrison man didn&#8217;t resurface.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened about 2:40 a.m. Sunday. Divers who were called to the scene recovered the body about 7 a.m. The man wasn&#8217;t immediately identified.<\/p>\n<p>The state Highway Patrol will handle the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 No injuries were reported in a fire that prompted an evacuation at a downtown Minot apartment and business building.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 blaze shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday started in a top-floor apartment. Firefighters had it contained in about 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The building houses apartments and Ebenezer&#8217;s Irish Pub and Restaurant. There was no immediate word on the amount of damage or the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Fargo man was hospitalized after being rescued from a house fire over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters responded to the home shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday. A man was rescued from a second-floor room, treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The man wasn&#8217;t identified, and his condition wasn&#8217;t known.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota Health Department data show the number of births dropped for the first time since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>State demographer Kevin Iverson says that could be a result of the state&#8217;s slowing economy due to depressed oil and crop prices.<\/p>\n<p>The agency&#8217;s annual statistics released this month also the number of abortions performed in the state are at the lowest level since record-keeping began in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Data also show cancer was the biggest killer of North Dakotans in 2015, surpassing heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>Marriages and divorces were up slightly than the year prior. (AP) \u2014 The Natural Resource Conservation Service in North Dakota is tackling a backlog of wetland determination requests.<\/p>\n<p>Producers who want to use certain U.S. Agriculture Department programs have been prohibited from draining wetlands since the passage of the 1985 Farm Bill. Simone Biles had the honor of carrying the U.S. flag for the ceremony after winning four gold medals.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Olympic cauldron&#8217;s flame was extinguished, the stadium turned into a samba-fueled Carnival-like party.
