But legacies are continuous. And the legacy of <a href=\"http:\/\/medora.com\/do\/outdoor\/theodore-roosevelt-national-park\/\">Theodore Roosevelt is embodied in this park<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The quarter was released at a ceremony Thursday at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) Painted Canyon Visitor Center near Medora. The coin release was held in conjunction with today\u2019s 100th birthday of the National Park Service (NPS), which is being celebrated across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1978, TRNP is North Dakota\u2019s only national park, covering more than 70,446 acres in McKenzie and Billings counties. Two national historic sites, also administered by the NPS, are located in North Dakota &#8212; Fort Union Trading Post and Knife River Indian Villages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AmericathebeautifulND1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-106359 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AmericathebeautifulND1-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"AmericathebeautifulND1\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AmericathebeautifulND1-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AmericathebeautifulND1-260x175.jpg 260w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AmericathebeautifulND1.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Cramer said national leaders and Congress need to engage in a serious discussion about conservation and preservation.\u00a0 \u201cAs we enter the second century of the National Park Service, we need to consider what\u00a0the federal government&#8217;s\u00a0responsibility is\u00a0to our parks,\u201d he said. \u201cThere is a conflict of visions &#8212;\u00a0one is preservation and\u00a0the other is attracting visitors. This conversation needs to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said a coin is a document of sorts, \u201cbut the true\u00a0legacy for our children\u00a0is embedded in our national parks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This quarter is the 34<sup>th<\/sup> release in the United States Mint\u2019s America the Beautiful Quarters Program, a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks. Five new quarters are being released every year, depicting one national park in each state, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories.\u00a0 The program was established by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/110th-congress\/house-bill\/6184?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22PL+110-456%22%5D%7D&amp;resultIndex=2\">Public Law 110-456<\/a>, which passed Congress in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Also participating in the release ceremony today were National Park Service Deputy Regional Director Patricia Trap, TRNP Superintendent Wendy Ross and U.S. Mint Principal Deputy Direct Rhett Jeppson. After the coin release ceremony, Cramer participated in a meeting with park leaders and stakeholders on the future of the TRNP.<\/p>\n<p>Cramer is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
