(AP) — North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger says a computer system that handles ballot information in North Dakota is being checked in response to a warning from the FBI.

Jaeger says there is no indication that the state’s election system has been compromised. The move to have the computer system inspected comes after the FBI warned state officials to boost their election security in light of evidence that hackers targeted related data systems in two states.

The FBI hasn’t named the two states, but it described a “compromise” of one elections board website and “attempted intrusion activities” in another state’s system. The agency advised states to scan their systems for specific signs of hacking.

Jaeger says the state is checking a list of IP addresses, which are numeric address given to a computer connected to the internet.

BISMARCK, N.D. Troopers say the closure was done for safety reasons.

In a letter to Gov. Jack Dalrymple on Tuesday, Amnesty International says “no parking” signs and reduced speed limit warnings would address public safety concerns without having to use the roadblock.

BISMARCK, N.D.
