(AP) \u2014 A man accused of fatally shooting another man and wounding a woman at a wedding dance in New Rockford a year ago has settled two civil lawsuits against him and is scheduled to change his not guilty pleas in his criminal case.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-two-year-old David Troske faces murder and other charges in the Sept. 6, 2015, fatal shooting of Donald Perleberg, of Pingree, and the wounding of Mary Seiler, of New Rockford.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents show he&#8217;s scheduled to change his pleas Sept. 28. He had been scheduled for trial later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents also indicate that settlements were reached earlier this year in civil lawsuits filed by Seiler and Perleberg&#8217;s family, seeking money damages.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Texas man accused of selling synthetic drugs that resulted in the overdose deaths of two teens in North Dakota is asking to drop his appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Carlton, of Katy, Texas, was sentenced two years ago to 20 years in prison for selling the drugs authorities linked to the June 2012 deaths of 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and 17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say Carlton sold the drugs to customers in every state. He was one of 15 people convicted in the case.<\/p>\n<p>Carlton&#8217;s appeal said his lawyer did a poor job of representing him and listed seven reasons why the sentence should be thrown out or reduced.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents show that Carlton changed his mind after numerous discussions with defense attorney Stormy Vickers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Williston man is accused of stealing a vehicle with a sleeping 6-year-old girl in the back seat.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-seven-year-old Corey Whitecloud allegedly took the sport utility vehicle from a grocery store parking lot Sunday evening, without knowing the girl was inside.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say he abandoned the SUV and unharmed child about a mile away, and they tracked down the location by calling her on a cellphone.<\/p>\n<p>The girl&#8217;s 25-year-old mother had left the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running while she shopped.\u00a0 Social Services officials are investigating.<\/p>\n<p>Whitecloud is charged with felony theft and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents don&#8217;t list an attorney for him. A call to a telephone listing for him was not answered Wednesday. He&#8217;s due in court Oct. 20.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Minot man accused of animal cruelty has been found not guilty, while a Bismarck man facing the same charge is scheduled to change his not guilty plea.<\/p>\n<p>Both cases were charged under a 2013 state law that makes the crime a felony. In the past three years there has not been a jury conviction in such a case.<\/p>\n<p>James Music of Minot was accused of taping shut a dog&#8217;s mouth, beating the animal, shooting it in the head and throwing the carcass in a garbage bin last fall. A jury on Tuesday acquitted him.<\/p>\n<p>Kristofer Gilliam of Bismarck is accused of shooting two cats with arrows late last year. Court documents show his trial this week was canceled. He was scheduled to change his plea Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Twenty-one victims of the largest hepatitis C outbreak in recent U.S. history are close to settling a lawsuit against Minot&#8217;s hospital out of court.<\/p>\n<p>Trinity attorneys in court documents say the hospital has &#8220;reached a confidential settlement resolving all of the individual plaintiffs&#8217; claims against it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A plaintiff&#8217;s attorney tells The Associated Press that the settlement in the state court lawsuit still needs to be finalized.<\/p>\n<p>Once it is, Trinity wants a connected legal dispute with ManorCare nursing home to return to federal court, where it originated. State Judge Todd Cresap hasn&#8217;t yet ruled.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-two people were sickened in the outbreak that began in August 2013, most of them ManorCare residents. Federal health officials say it was the nation&#8217;s largest outbreak in 13 years. ManorCare blames Trinity. Trinity denies responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PORTAL, N.D. (AP) \u2014 U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say a two-day special enforcement operation at the Portal Port of Entry rail facility in North Dakota uncovered multiple pests and invasive seeds.<\/p>\n<p>Federal customs agriculture specialists targeted rail containers and collected 55 different types of pests, including a type of fruit fly and a type of flour beetle.<\/p>\n<p>Pembina Area Port Director Jason Schmelz says the agriculture specialists are important to keeping out pests and diseases that could hurt the nation&#8217;s food production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Organic farmers, ranchers, processors and handlers can apply to have some of their certification costs reimbursed.<\/p>\n<p>State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the federal Organic Cost Share Program is now accepting applications for fiscal 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Organic producers can receive up to $750 of the certification costs they paid between October 2015 and September of this year. The deadline to apply is Nov. 16. About $88,000 is available for North Dakota producers, on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n<p>Certification enables producers to label and sell their organic products with a federal seal assuring they were produced with recognized organic methods.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Veteran quarterback Shaun Hill and rookie Joel Stave have just become very important members of the Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n<p>Starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is expected to miss at least the upcoming season while recovering from a dislocated left knee and torn ACL suffered in a freak practice injury on Tuesday. The non-contact injury occurred when he tried to plant his left foot to throw a pass. The knee was placed in an air cast before he was taken to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old Hill has started just 34 games during his NFL career, eight since the end of the 2010 season. Stave just completed a four-year college career with Wisconsin, where he completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 7,635 yards, 48 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. Twenty-eight-year-old Harrison Fast of Boulder, Colorado, was speed flying on a mountain in late March when the group he was with lost sight of him in bad weather. Speed flyers run or ski down slopes and then use special parachutes designed to let them fly fast and close to the ground.
