VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP Jul 13, 2012) – A North Dakota college student who went
\nmissing for nearly a week before turning up in Arizona says she had
\na bout of amnesia and didn’t know who she was.
\nTwenty-two-year-old Valley City State University student Amber
\nGlatt vanished on the Fourth of July, prompting aerial searches.
\nShe contacted her mother five days later from the Grand Canyon. Her
\nmother says Glatt has had recurring amnesia since suffering a head
\ninjury years ago.
\nGlatt says after she lost her memory she met a man in a bar who let her tag along on his trip to the Grand Canyon. She says the man eventually saw online that
\nshe’d been reported missing and alerted her.
\nGlatt says she regained most of her memory on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The James River Humane Society reminds everybody, that the Hogs for Dogs fundraiser will be held on Saturday July 28, 2012. Registration is at 9:30am, with alight breakfast served. Registration is $15 per bike The bike run also includes a grill-out at Stutsman Harley Davidson. A light breakfast will be served before run at . There will also be a hot dog eating contest, and a hog calling contest.
\nOn Friday\u2019s (Jul 13, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, James River Humane Society President, Jennifer Barnard said, donate any pet item that week and get a 15% off discount on all items at Stutsman Harley Davidson, excluding bikes. She pointed out that fun activities will be happening at the stops.
\nShe said the grill-out starts at 10:30am and goes until 1:30pm.
\nThe bike run is sponsored by Stutsman Harley Davidson and the HOG Chapter.<\/p>\n

Ms. Barnard added that the shelter will have a booth at Crazy Days, on July 27, 2012, serving root beer floats. She thanked Coburn\u2019s for asking as to be a part of this fun day.<\/p>\n

She said that the there is still a need of pet cemetery volunteers for lawn maintenance and upkeep.<\/p>\n

Other upconing fundrasiers include, Hugo\u2019s having their fundraiser for JRHS this month. Donate $1 at the register and when buying Pepsi products some of that goes back to JRHS. The shelter\u2019s picture boards are also on display. Pet supplies can be put in the drop box.
\nLloyd\u2019s Toyota will also be doing a fundraiser for starting in August, with more details coming soon.<\/p>\n

With the hot weather, Ms. Barnard reminds pet owners to have enough water for the pets and give them enough shade when being outside. \u2026and of course she reminds pet owners to spay and neuter pets, which is one of the JRHS\u2019s main focuses. As of Friday the shelter had 19 cats, and 10 dogs available for adoption.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown,\u2019s Downtown Crazy Day is just around the corner, July 27, 2012. The Jamestown Main Street Downtown Association, is looking to bring back the lustre of the great Crazy Days Jamestown was known for years ago.
\nAmbassador Charlie Kourajian says, the Downtown Association is
\nmaking a big push to get more merchants and vendors to display and sell on Main Street and supplementing them with quality entertainment. There will be four inflatable air games and the ever popular Ping Pong Ball Drop.
\nThe Downtown Association is busy gathering prizes for the Ping Pong Ball Drop and will be giving away over 110 prizes for young and older.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A witness in a Beulah murder conspiracy case has pleaded guilty to multiple charges of burglary and theft of property but will not see additional jail time.
\nEighteen-year-old Avalino Lopez was sentenced to one year in jail with all of it suspended but the time he already has spent behind bars, and put on supervised probation.
\nMercer County State’s Attorney Jessica Binder says Lopez spent about 50 days in jail. He also was ordered to pay restitution in the May burglaries of homes and garages in Beulah.
\nLopez was a witness in the murder conspiracy trial of Richard Whitman and Cody Borner last month. Both men were convicted in the Jan. 31 shooting death of Michael Padilla and the wounding of his brother, Timothy Padilla.<\/p>\n

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Four men face charges in the shooting of
\nan Idaho man in the North Dakota oil patch city of Williston in
\nMay.
\nThe men are accused in the shooting of 25-year-old Kenneth Moore Jr., of Boise, Idaho. Police say Moore suffered multiple gunshot wounds
\noutside an apartment complex.
\nCharges against the suspects range from conspiracy to attempted
\nmurder. Authorities have not said what might have sparked the
\nshooting.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota political leaders are pushing
\nCongress for passage of a farm bill before the fall deadline.
\nExperts say it’s not likely to happen.
\nFormer North Dakota governor and U.S. agriculture secretary Ed
\nSchafer says Congress has rarely met deadlines for farm
\nlegislation, let alone in an election year. He expects a temporary
\nextension.
\nNorth Dakota State University researcher Dwight Aakre (AH’-kree)
\nsays the House Agriculture Committee’s approval this week surprised
\nhim, but he believes that meeting a September deadline is a “big
\nhurdle.”
\nThe bill has passed the Senate. It might not reach the full
\nHouse.
\nAakre says he doesn’t believe claims by political candidates
\nthat farmers need to know what’s in the bill in order to plan for
\nnext year.
\nSays Aakre, “Nothing really changes for producers.”<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota school officials are happy about a plan to tell high schools about how their graduates are doing in college.
\nNorth Dakota University System Chancellor Ham Shirvani (shur-VAH’-nee) says he wants the university system to provide the information.
\nHigh schools would be told about the academic performance of their graduates when they’re freshmen in North Dakota colleges.
\nShirvani says the data would help high schools improve their instruction. North Dakota School Boards Association Director Jon Martinson agrees. He says the initiative is welcome.
\nNorth Dakota Education Association President Dakota Draper says he likes the idea too, as long as it’s constructive and the information isn’t used to target specific teachers.
\nShirvani says most states already provide the college information to high schools, but North Dakota doesn’t.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota health officials have cited two companies, accusing them of dumping more than a half million gallons of raw sewage from oilfield operations in ditches and fields.
\nThe state Health Department announced Friday that it issued violation notices to Fairview, Mont.-based Hurley Oilfield Services and Mon-Dak Water & Septic Service of Stanley.
\nState environmental health chief Dave Glatt (glaht) says the Montana company is accused of illegally dumping about 100 loads of raw sewage. He says the North Dakota company is accused of dumping about 40 loads. Each load is at least 4,000 gallons.
\nGlatt says the sewage came from crew camps and drill sites in western North Dakota.
\nNeither company immediately returned telephone calls from The Associated Press on Friday.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities has been given a three-year, $533,000 federal grant aimed at curbing Medicare fraud and abuse.
\nThe U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds the program. The North Dakota grant is one of 54 programs nationwide.
\nMedicare is the federal government’s health insurance program for people age 65 and older.
\nOfficials say the grant is aimed at educating Medicare users about health care fraud and scams targeting citizens.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The Minot City Council has approved a plan for spending federal disaster recovery grant money, after shifting more money to programs that help homeowners rebuild.
\nThe city is getting $68 million through Housing and Urban Development to help with recovery from last summer’s historic Souris River flooding. The city’s plan for spending the money includes helping homeowners with repairs as well as other measures such as developing affordable housing and repairing infrastructure.
\nSome residents said more of the money should go to help flooded homeowners, and less should go for administration and infrastructure. City officials redirected half of $4.5 million intended for storm sewer improvements to programs to help homeowners with repairs or reconstructions.
\nHUD must approve the plan.
\nThe 2011 flood swamped more than 4,000 homes and businesses.<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame will
\nhave three new members after this weekend.
\nFormer major league baseball players Darin Erstad and Rick
\nHelling and legendary high school basketball coach Ed Beyer are
\nbeing inducted into the hall in Jamestown during a banquet
\nSaturday.
\nErstad played outfield and first base in the majors for 14
\nyears, for the Los Angeles Angels and two other teams. During his
\ncareer he was an all-star, a gold glove winner and a World Series
\nchampion.
\nHelling pitched 13 years for five teams. He won 20 games with
\nthe Texas Rangers in 1998, and won two World Series rings with the
\nFlorida Marlins.
\nBeyer coached the Hillsboro boys’ basketball team for nearly
\nfour decades, retiring as the winningest boys’ coach in North
\nDakota history.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND — (KCSi-T.V Sports Jul 13, 2012) — Jamestown College announces that Nick Becker has been named the head women\u2019s soccer coach.
\nBecker has 12 years of experience and education in management, development, and leadership of a team. Becker\u2019s experience includes being a Northern Blast Club Soccer Team Coach, and directing skills and conditioning camps for high school players. He was also part of the South Dakota State coaching staff and was a graduate assistant for the Northern State University Women\u2019s Soccer Program where he assisted the head coach in planning, developing and promoting the program as well as helping with practice and recruitment and learning the conference rules and procedures.
\n“Coach Becker is young but has been well-mentored,\u201d said Lawrie Paulson, Jamestown College Director of Athletics. \u201cHe has an understanding of who we are and what we are about as a school. I think he will do an excellent job leading our women’s team, and I think this hire will end up helping both soccer programs move forward.”<\/p>\n

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) – President Barack Obama says if Mitt
\nRomney and Republicans aren’t willing to let tax cuts lapse for the
\nwealthiest Americans, they’re “not serious” about deficit
\nreduction. At a campaign rally in Virginia Beach, Va., the
\npresident renewed calls to extend Bush-era tax breaks for the poor
\nand middle class while the two sides argue about the remaining top
\n2 percent of Americans. The GOP calls Obama’s plan a recipe for a
\nmassive tax hike that’ll hit small business. Obama is kicking off
\ntwo days of campaigning in Virginia.<\/p>\n

BEIRUT (AP) – The Obama administration is blaming Syria’s
\ngovernment for the latest violence, which activists say has left
\nscores of people dead in a poor farming village. The activists are
\nbacking away from previous statements that more than 200 people
\nwere killed, but one provided a list of 103 names.<\/p>\n

RIPLEY, W. Va. (AP) – Prosecutors in the case of a West Virginia
\nman accused of torturing and abusing his wife for years may not be
\ngetting much help from the alleged victim. Stephanie Lizon
\n(LY’-zahn) testified Friday that all of her burns and bruises were
\naccidents, and she denies that her husband kept her bound in
\nchains. But the judge is refusing to dismiss the charge, and found
\nprobable cause to let the case proceed.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) – Lisa Gaines says she figured the cabin of a
\nyacht was the safest place on board for her 7-year-old daughter,
\nVictoria. But when the yacht capsized near Long Island on the
\nFourth of July, the young girl and two other children who were
\ninside the cabin were killed. Gaines tells NBC’s “Today” show
\nthat she doesn’t know if the boat was overcrowded — but that’s one
\npossibility being investigated.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) – Apple says it is putting its products back on an
\nenvironmental ratings registry, saying it made a mistake in
\nremoving them from the list. It’s considered an industry standard
\nand it helps customers buy electronics that are environmentally
\nfriendly. After Apple said it was withdrawing from the registry and
\nthat it did not plan to submit its products for ratings in the
\nfuture, the city of San Francisco said it would stop buying Apple
