\"\"<\/a>A memorial plaque dedicated to former Jamestown booster Reese Hawkins will be created and displayed at Frontier Village in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

That was announced Friday at the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Executive Board\u2019s monthly meeting by BCTF Executive Director Nina Sneider.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be a great way to commemorate Reese and Margaret Hawkins,\u201d Sneider said.<\/p>\n

Hawkins, who lived most of his life in North Dakota and spent his retirement promoting Jamestown and the state itself, died June 23 at age 96. His wife Margaret died four years prior in 2008 at age 91.<\/p>\n

The plaque will be placed in the Louis L\u2019Amour Writer\u2019s Shack at Frontier Village, a place where Sneider said Reese Hawkins spent a great deal of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe spent many, many hours there so it\u2019s fitting to have it placed in that spot,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The board also unveiled results of a survey conducted this summer by Jamestown College students regarding feedback from Jamestown tourists.<\/p>\n

The survey, which was taken in two parts at a June Wild West Shootout at Frontier Village and at Jamestown\u2019s annual Kite Festival, indicated that 40 percent of the tourists who came for those events were from outside North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Survey results also indicated an additional need for the BCTF to continue advancing with social media such as Facebook and Twitter, as 36 percent of tourists surveyed stating those are the outlets they use most for receiving information.<\/p>\n

In other business, the board awarded a $3,400 construction bid to Chuck Christ for building a new dividing wall inside the BCTF\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Executive Board Treasurer Scott Hare\u2019s monthly report also indicated positive financial numbers for this year\u2019s tourism season.<\/p>\n
