(AP) \u2014 North Dakota&#8217;s Health and Agriculture departments have withdrawn a blue-green algae advisory for Lake Ashtabula in Barnes County.<\/p>\n<p>The warning was issued in August after a dog was reported dead. Monitoring showed high levels of microcystin, a cyanotoxin toxin caused by blue-green algae.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Department says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has noted a significant improvement in water quality at the lake, so the advisory is no longer necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Hot summer weather can contribute to the production of the algae that&#8217;s also known as cyanobacteria. People and animals who ingest affected water can get sick and even die. There&#8217;s no known antidote for the toxins.<\/p>\n<p>People are urged to err on the side of caution and avoid water that looks discolored or scummy or has a foul odor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISMARCK, N.D.
