\u00a0<\/strong>U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp\u00a0 issued the following statement after her more than hour-long meeting on Friday afternoon with President-elect Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident-elect Trump and I had a thoughtful and wide ranging discussion on a variety of issues important to North Dakota and the country,\u201d said Heitkamp. \u201cWe talked about finding a realistic path forward for coal and combating human trafficking, as well as the Export-Import Bank and keeping jobs in the U.S., energy infrastructure including the complexities of the Dakota Access pipeline and the challenges for law enforcement as well as the Keystone pipeline, and the issues facing small community banks that help support rural towns. We also discussed my background as I\u2019m from a town of just 90 people from a rural state and my upbringing as the daughter of a seasonal construction worker and a school cook. I appreciate him being generous with his time, and I look forward to working with him and all of my colleagues in Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, to reach results for North Dakota and the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington DC\u00a0 (CSi) \u2013 <\/strong>U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp Thursday issued the following statement regarding her meeting on Friday afternoon with President-elect Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI appreciate the president-elect inviting me for a meeting,\u201d said Heitkamp. \u201cEvery single day, my work is motivated first and foremost by how I can be most helpful to the people of North Dakota. They are my driving force and have been throughout my career in public service. Whatever job I do, I hope to work with the president-elect and all of my colleagues in Congress on both sides of the aisle to best support my state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources indicate that President-elect Trump is considering\u00a0 Heitkamp for either the interior or energy secretary positions in his Cabinet, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters News Agency on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Trump requested the meeting with Heitkamp.<\/p>\n

The senator’s office was not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n

The Associated Press reports, that Donald Trump’s transition team confirmed that the incoming president will meet on Friday with\u00a0 Heitkamp<\/span>\u00a0 a Democrat up for re-election in 2018.<\/p>\n

Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence plan to talk with Heitkamp<\/span> at Trump Tower in New York. Trump won Heitkamp’s<\/span> home state with an overwhelming majority in the presidential election.<\/p>\n

Trump spokesman Jason Miller says Heitkamp<\/span> “comes very highly recommended, very highly qualified as a proven leader and would be an asset in any role or capacity.”<\/p>\n
