(AP) \u2014 A state legislative committee is endorsing a move from two to one license plate for North Dakota drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The House Transportation Committee is recommending passage to the full House. Gas station and convenience store owners oppose a single license plate, saying it\u2019s tougher to\u00a0catch criminals who drive away without paying for gas.<\/p>\n<p>Missouri Valley Petroleum spokesman Larry Froehlich says gas stations may average one or two drive-offs per day which adds up to a significant financial impact for the businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The North Dakota Peace Officers Association agrees with the gas station owners. The association\u2019s Bruce Burkett says the front plate is often the first contact officers have as they pass a vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The latest data from AAA says 19 states allow just one license plate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISMARCK, N.D.
