ROLLA, N.D. (AP)\u00a0 Sheriff’s officials say a man has been fatally shot while attempting to break into a home in Rolette County.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement officers say the shooting happened at a home near Rolla about 3 a.m. Sunday. Six people, including children, were in the home when the man could be heard breaking in.<\/p>\n
The intruder was the shot and killed. Authorities say the intruder had a weapon. It’s not know who fired the deadly shot.<\/p>\n
Sheriff’s officials say they don’t believe the man is from the area. No other details were available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Bismarck (CSi) \u00a0On Saturday January 21st<\/sup>, 2017 at approximately 5:00 pm, Deputies from the Stark County Sheriff\u2019s Department located a stolen vehicle near Richardton.<\/p>\nOfficers attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled east on Highway 10 and Interstate 94; where officers lost sight of it.\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol and Morton County Sheriff\u2019s Department later located the vehicle in Glen Ullin.\u00a0 Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled eastbound on Highway 49 from Glen Ullin.<\/p>\n
Officers established a road block with tire disabling spike strips on Highway 49.\u00a0 The vehicle was able to avoid the roadblock, and in doing so, fled westbound on Highway 49.<\/p>\n
The vehicle then went south on Highway 49 from Glen Ullin.\u00a0 While fleeing on Highway 49 the vehicle reached speeds up to 140 mph.\u00a0 Officers from the Grant County Sheriff\u2019s Department and Hettinger County Sheriff\u2019s Department established a road block with tire disabling spike strips on Highway 49 on the north side of Elgin.<\/p>\n
Just before the roadblock, the vehicle turned eastbound on a gravel road \u2013 section line.\u00a0 The vehicle went approximately 1.5 miles before getting stuck in deep snow.\u00a0 The vehicle\u2019s passenger was immediately taken into custody.\u00a0 The driver of the vehicle fled on foot.<\/p>\n
Officers chased the driver on foot and tracked him to a nearby abandoned farmstead.\u00a0 Officers determined the driver was held-up in an abandoned house which they surrounded.\u00a0 Nearby residents were advised of the situation.\u00a0 After some time, the driver gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident.<\/p>\n
The driver was identified as Dante Schwarting of New Salem, ND.\u00a0 Schwarting was arrested on active warrants and several charges regarding this incident.<\/p>\n
The passenger was detained and is under investigation as to his involvement with this matter.<\/p>\n
Agencies involved include the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Stark County Sheriff\u2019s Department, Morton County Sheriff\u2019s Department, Hettinger County Sheriff\u2019s Department and the Dickinson Police Department.<\/p>\n

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) \u2014 Search teams have rescued a 58-year-old North Dakota man who got lost in Rocky Mountain National Park and spent a frigid night in deep snow.<\/p>\n
Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says two visitors who were skiing in the area found him Saturday after he became lost on Friday.<\/p>\n
He was evacuated by toboggan litter and later taken by helicopter to a Denver hospital. He was being treated Sunday for hypothermia and other exposure-related injuries.<\/p>\n
His name hasn’t been released. He lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota.<\/p>\n
The man was found about 300 yards off the North Longs Peak Trail, south of Alberta Falls. The falls are a popular destination year-round.<\/p>\n
Patterson says park officials believe the temperature hit 10 degrees overnight.<\/p>\n
It wasn’t immediately clear why he was off the trail.
\nFORT YATES, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council is supporting the district of Cannon Ball’s wish that all Dakota Access pipeline protesters leave the area.<\/p>\n
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the resolution was passed by the full council Friday. It applies to all three protest camps in North Dakota.<\/p>\n
Cody Two Bears is the Cannon Ball district representative to the tribal council. He says the district is requesting help from federal law enforcement to remove protesters from the district and prevent those who do not live or work in the district from entering.<\/p>\n
Tribal officials say the resolution stems from frustrations over the closure of Backwater Bridge on state Highway 1806, which is the primary route to work and hospital services.<\/p>\n
The reservation straddles the North Dakota and South Dakota border.<\/p>\n
\nBISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota’s legislative session is entering its fourth week with lawmakers set to consider a host of bills sure to draw citizens to the Capitol.<\/p>\n
The measures range from medical marijuana and ethics to gun-carrying and Sunday shopping.<\/p>\n
Another high-profile measure sponsored by Republican House Majority Leader Al Carlson would make it a crime for adults to wear masks in most cases. That bill was filed in reaction to the ongoing Dakota Access pipeline protests in the southern part of the state.<\/p>\n
Another measure would repeal North Dakota’s longstanding Sunday business restrictions that are part of the state’s so-called blue laws.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Hundreds of buffalo are under quarantine in North Dakota and South Dakota after an illegal poison was used to kill prairie dogs.<\/p>\n
An Environmental Protection Agency investigation earlier found 40,000 pounds of Rozol poison had been distributed across 5,400 acres on the former Cannonball Ranch near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and the Wilder Ranch which straddles both states to the south.<\/p>\n
The EPA-led investigation began last year after six bald eagles and bison were found dead at the Wilder Ranch.<\/p>\n
David Meyer sold the Cannonball Ranch to Dakota Access Pipeline for a reported $18 million five months after the Rozol incident. The company bought the ranch to build the pipeline that has attracted thousands of protesters.<\/p>\n
\nWAHPETON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Wahpeton’s first female City Council member and the community’s first full-time female realtor is calling it a career.<\/p>\n
The Wahpeton Daily News reports 67-year-old Donna Keogh is retiring from the city’s Planning Commission and from Action Realtors Ltd., which she co-founded in 1988.<\/p>\n
Keogh served as a councilwoman from 1994-98. She became Wahpeton’s first full-time realtor in 1981 before going on to co-found Action Realtors with Steve Diederick in 1988.<\/p>\n
Keogh has stayed active over the years as a member of North Dakota real estate committees and the Wahpeton-Breckenridge Area Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors.<\/p>\n
She is scheduled to become the recipient of 2017’s first proclamation of appreciation from the Wahpeton City Council.
\nMINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Minot is looking to eliminate the cap on the number of liquor licenses and the city’s bar owners are not pleased.<\/p>\n
The Minot Daily News reports that the Minot City Council’s Liquor and Gambling Control Committee put the ordinance on hold Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Under the proposed ordinance, a liquor, beer and wine license would still cost $3,125, but would also include a $150,000 application fee.<\/p>\n
The committee is expected to discuss the ordinance on Feb. 1. Meanwhile, beverage dealers hope to come together to create recommendations for the council.<\/p>\n
Based on Minot’s 2010 census population there are 28 licenses.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 It will be the New England Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51 at Houston’s Reliant Stadium on Feb. 5. Both teams advanced with blowouts in the conference title games.<\/p>\n
The Patriots have earned their NFL-record ninth berth in the Super Bowl by slamming the Pittsburgh Steelers, 36-17 in the AFC championship game. Tom Brady was at his playoff best in completing 32 of 42 passes for 384 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He hit Chris Hogan for touchdown throws of 16 and 34 yards before Julian Edelman’s 10-yard scoring grab put New England ahead 33-9 late in the third quarter.<\/p>\n
Hogan had nine receptions for 180 yards, while Edelman gained 118 on his eight catches.<\/p>\n
It was a tough evening for Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lis-bur-gur), who was 31 of 47 for one touchdown and one interception. Roethlisberger’s lone TD throw came in the closing minutes.<\/p>\n

A highway patrol spokesman said Ventura died about 40 miles from Santo Domingo, adding that it was not clear if Ventura was driving. Marte died when the Mercedes Benz he was driving hit a house along a road about 95 miles from the capital.<\/p>\n
Ventura was 11-12 with a 4.45 ERA in 32 starts for the 2016 Royals at age 25. He was 38-31 with a 3.89 ERA in four major league seasons with Kansas City, helping the team win two pennants and the 2015 World Series.<\/p>\n
Marte spent most of his seven-year major league career with the Indians before playing in Korea the last two seasons. Marte was 33.<\/p>\n

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that the Atlanta Braves have worked out a one-year contract with Suzuki, pending a physical. The 33-year-old likely will share time with returning starter Tyler Flowers.<\/p>\n
Suzuki spent the last three seasons with Minnesota, batting .263 with 160 RBIs and 92 extra-base hits in 368 games. He hit .288 for the 2014 Twins, his lone All-Star season.<\/p>\n
