(AP) \u2014 A North Dakota prosecutor says the suspect accused of shooting at a state trooper did not take hostages before shooting himself in an apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey County State&#8217;s Attorney Kari Agotness said in a statement Saturday that while other people were in the Devils Lake apartment with 23-year-old Daniel TwoHearts, &#8220;this was not a hostage situation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Police had said TwoHearts barricaded himself in the apartment with two other individuals. Police got the man and woman out and were negotiating with TwoHearts when he shot himself.<\/p>\n<p>TwoHearts was airlifted to a hospital. His condition is not known.<\/p>\n<p>The ordeal began Thursday night with an attempted traffic stop in Grand Forks. Authorities say TwoHearts fired at a trooper who was not hit and stole two cars, including one with a baby inside.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>REYNOLDS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; \u00a0Police say a crime spree by a man who fired at a state trooper is over after the suspect shot himself rather than surrender.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p402_premium\">\n<div class=\"node-body\">\n<p>Devils Lake Police Capt. John Barnett says that Daniel TwoHearts shot himself once. He says the wound did not appear to be fatal before he was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>The Devils Lake Journal\u00a0reported that Two Hearts was inside an apartment in the Lock Block complex late Friday night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Previously reported:<\/p>\n<p>(CSi)\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol was still searching for 23-year-old Daniel Michael TwoHearts Friday afternoon. \u00a0Two Hearts is 5 feet 7 inches and weighs about 160 pounds, according to authorities<a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/twoheartsDM3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-115678 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/twoheartsDM3-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"twoheartsDM3\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/twoheartsDM3-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/twoheartsDM3-260x175.jpg 260w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/twoheartsDM3.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>TwoHearts abandoned a stolen vehicle\u00a0in Northwood, \u00a0then stole a white 2013 GMC Sierra K-2500. The GMC was then found abandoned in the Devils Lake Wal-Mart parking lot around 3pm. \u00a0TwoHearts is still at large.<\/p>\n<p>The Trail County State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office has charged Two Hearts with the Class A felony, which carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. An arrest warrant also has been issued for Two Hearts.<\/p>\n<p>TwoHearts is currently under the supervision of Parole and Probation.<\/p>\n<p>TwoHearts fired three shots from a 9 mm handgun at State Trooper Eric Rumple shortly after 9:30-p.m. Thursday, as\u00a0 the \u00a0trooper attempted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet pickup with excessively loud exhaust on I-29 at Grand Forks.\u00a0.\u00a0 The trooper avoided being struck.\u00a0 No shots were fired by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/TwoHearts.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-115639 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/TwoHearts.png\" alt=\"TwoHearts\" width=\"189\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/TwoHearts.png 189w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/TwoHearts-165x175.png 165w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/><\/a>The vehicle fled southbound on I-29 at approximately 100 mph.\u00a0 Just south of Exit 104 (Hillsboro), law enforcement successfully deployed tire spikes and flattened the tires of the fleeing vehicle.\u00a0 Upon stopping, the driver of the suspect vehicle exited and fired shots at the NDHP trooper.\u00a0 The suspect fled on foot.\u00a0\u00a0 Two passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody without further incident.\u00a0\u00a0 Methamphetamine was located inside the vehicle. Area residents were notified as the ground search was conducted.<\/p>\n<p>While law enforcement was still searching for the suspect on foot at approximately 11:04 p.m., a report was received of a vehicle stolen from Hillsboro with a baby in it.\u00a0 Law enforcement located the stolen vehicle northbound on County Road 81 and successfully deployed tire spikes, flattening its tires east of Reynolds.\u00a0 The driver again fled on foot.\u00a0\u00a0 The baby was located in the vehicle by officers, uninjured, and brought to safety.<\/p>\n<p>Between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., TwoHearts stole an additional vehicle, a silver 2005 Ford Taurus.<\/p>\n<p>TwoHearts abandoned the silver 2005 Ford Taurus in Northwood, then stole a white 2013 GMC Sierra K-2500. The GMC was found abandoned in the Devils Lake Wal-Mart parking lot around 3pm on Friday. TwoHearts is still at large.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous law enforcement agencies Friday afternoon continued to actively search for this suspect, \u00a0believed to be armed and dangerous.\u00a0 Citizens are asked to call 911 if they see anything or anyone suspicious in this area.\u00a0 Citizens are advised not to approach the suspect.\u00a0 Law enforcement aircraft are being utilized in the search.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REYNOLDS, N.D.
