Grassroots Dem-NPL<br \/>\nsupporters reelected Kylie Oversen as Party Chairwoman on the first ballot<br \/>\nwith 60 out of 110 total votes. Oversen was one of five candidates for<br \/>\nparty Chair.<\/p>\n<p>Also elected were Warren Larson as Vice Chair; Ruth Buffalo as Secretary;<br \/>\nand Colleen Popelka as Treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>Dem-NPL Chairwoman Kylie Oversen* released the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amazing participation at today\u2019s meeting is a clear sign that we, the<br \/>\nDemocratic-Nonpartisan League, are fired up and committed to fighting for<br \/>\nthe issues that matter to working families and citizens across our state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no question that the results of last year\u2019s election were not<br \/>\nwhat we hoped for, either here in North Dakota or at the national level.<br \/>\nBut what we\u2019ve seen since then is remarkable energy, renewed dedication,<br \/>\nand countless grassroots supporters \u2013 many getting involved for the first<br \/>\ntime in their lives \u2013 hard at work organizing to build a stronger future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if we\u2019ve ever seen this many people involved in elections<br \/>\nfor our party leadership positions. We strongly believe the engagement and<br \/>\nactivism we\u2019ve seen since last November is a sign of things to come in 2018<br \/>\nand beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp also addressed the reorganizational meeting,<br \/>\nspeaking to supporters about ensuring quality, affordable health care for<br \/>\nall North Dakotans, protecting seniors and children, and building stronger<br \/>\nand safer communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe North Dakota Dem-NPL Party stands up for workers and families across<br \/>\nour state and I&#8217;m proud of the leadership we elected today to help move<br \/>\nthose priorities forward,\u201d said Senator Heitkamp.<\/p>\n<p>Over 200 Democrats from across the state were in attendance at the party\u2019s<br \/>\nreorganizational meeting, with 110 members of the Policy Committee<br \/>\nparticipating in the vote for leadership positions. The Dem-NPL Policy<br \/>\nCommittee is made up of two members from each of the state\u2019s 47 legislative<br \/>\ndistricts, as well as members of the Dem-NPL Executive Committee.
