Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Rural Fire Department responded to a report of a grain dryer fire at Country Grain Co-op at Eldridge at 10: 51 a.m., Monday.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Rural Fire Chief Ben Maulding says, fire was out on arrival although there were some hot spots remaining in the dryer unit, with minimal damage reported.<\/p>\n

Crews emptied grain.<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi) \u00a0 A tractor fire Monday afternoon about 12:30, destroyed a tractor south of Valley City.<\/p>\n

The tractor was located on Highway 1 near the Green Township School.<\/p>\n

Responding to the scene were the Valley City\/Barnes County Rural Fire Department and the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s office<\/p>\n

No injuries reported<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire has not been released.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Planning Commission, Monday recommended a zoning change in the Mall Woods addition.<\/p>\n

The parcel, is approximately 5.3 acres, including Blocks 3, 4, and 5 of Mall Woods Addition, all being within the City of Jamestown, Stutsman County, North Dakota from P-O-C (Public, Open Development and Conservation District) to C-2 (General Commercial District).\u00a0 The property is located at: 900 23rd St SW, 912 23rd<\/sup> St SW and 1024 23rd<\/sup> St SW<\/p>\n

Scott Harmstead of SRF Consulting Group, Inc. gave the staff report. He explained the site is vacant and designated as commercial in the future land use plan.\u00a0 The current zoning is P-O-C and Blocks 4 & 5 were intended for residential development and Block 3 was never subdivided since it contains a wetland.\u00a0 The site is roughly 5.3 acres which is sufficient for C-2 use, although the applicant may need to pursue a replat since the majority of the property is currently platted for residential use.\u00a0 Scott noted that as the subject areas is developed, proper storm water detention facilities need to be provided to control drainage into the site\u2019s wetland and to control drainage off the site into State right-of-way.\u00a0 Scott reported that the existing adjacent land use is C-2 and that no protests for the zone change have been received; the recommendation is to approve the requested zone change.<\/p>\n

At the Public Hearing Casey Stoudt, representing the RM Stoudt dealership, spoke about their intentions to build a reconditioning center to the east side of the retention pond.<\/p>\n

Chairman Hillerud asked if the Commission would like him to abstain his vote since he has been working on the plans for the new building.\u00a0 No one objected.<\/p>\n

Commission member Trautman made a motion to accept the findings of staff and recommend approval of the zone change from P-O-C (Public, Open Development and Conservation District) to C-2 (General Commercial District) for Blocks 3, 4, and 5 of Mall Woods Addition, 5.3 acres located south and west of the interchange of I-94 and US-52, as it meets the requirements of Appendix C of the Jamestown Municipal Code.<\/p>\n

The Motion Carried unanimously.<\/p>\n

Motion was updated to include the legal description per Commission member Benschs\u2019 suggestion.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce reports that the North Dakota League of Cities is hosting a legislative update at Sabir\u2019s Buffalo Grill in Jamestown on Tuesday, May 9th<\/sup> at 5:30 pm.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Executive Becky Thatcher Keller says \u00a0the community is welcome and encouraged to attend. \u00a0She adds,\u00a0 the purpose is to update the public on legislative action that will impact our local communities, businesses and the state in general.<\/p>\n

Wimbledon\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 \u00a0Dave Foster, Peggy Lee’s grandson, will be in Wimbledon from May 25 until May 29, 2017<\/p>\n

He will\u00a0to celebrate Peggy Lee’s birthday and the five year Anniversary of the “Midland Continental Railroad Transportation Museum<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>featuring Peggy Lee<\/em><\/strong>“, located in Wimbledon, ND, May 26th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the depot.<\/p>\n

The public is \u00a0invited to help celebrate with cake, coffee, lemonade and conversation on that day with Dave.<\/p>\n
