Eckleson\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office and North Dakota Highway Patrol investigated a semi striking and killing at 27 year old Valley City man, about 5-a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 near the I-94 Eckleson Exit.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said Sanborn firefighters responded to a vehicle fire, during that time. \u00a0The vehicle\u2019s driver, Justin Tangen escaped the burning vehicle and was later struck by a semi and died at the scene.<\/p>\n

The investigation is continuing.<\/p>\n

\"\"Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office is informing the public of a High Risk Sex Offender living in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Johnathan \u201cJohn\u201d Fleener has been assigned a High Risk Sex Offender by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee of the North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

He is presently living at 10917 37th<\/sup> Street Southeast, Valley City, ND<\/p>\n

Fleener is 28 year old white male, five feet eleven inches tall,\u00a0 weighing 260 pounds..<\/p>\n

Conviction: January of 2010 in Barnes County District Court for sexually assaulted a 16-year-old coworker.<\/p>\n

Fleener is not wanted by law enforcement at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.<\/p>\n

Any use of this information to threaten, assault or intimidate the offender their families, landlords of employers will be turned over for \u00a0prosecution.<\/p>\n

GWINNER, N.D. (AP) \u2014 An Oakes man died over the weekend when the sport utility vehicle he was driving rear-ended a tractor pulling a disc plow.<\/p>\n

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened on state Highway 13 near Gwinner about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Thirty-nine-year-old Oscar Castro died at the scene from head injuries.<\/p>\n

The tractor driver wasn’t hurt. He also wasn’t cited because the patrol says the farm equipment had the required lighting.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Jamestown Public works reminds motorists that the City of Jamestown has started the annual street and avenue traffic marking\/striping maintenance program. \u00a0\u00a0The work is expected to continue until completion, work is contingent upon changing weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Motorists and other traffic should use extreme caution in these areas due to fresh paint and limited lane use. Please be aware of directional cones and the traffic maintenance crew.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (JRVLS)\u00a0 The James River Valley Library System announces that Barb Caine will be retiring at the end of May 2017.<\/p>\n

Barb joined the library staff in 1996, and her specialties include genealogy and reference. She has helped many people, both locally and from around the country, to find their roots in Stutsman County through her work at the library.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Barb has served many people in the \u00a0community in one way or another, and has always done so in a patient and kind way. From her ability to find the answers to almost any question asked, to helping patrons find the books they need, Barb has always been very valuable to the library and she will be greatly missed.<\/p>\n

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) \u2013 Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the Devils Lake City Commission violated the state\u2019s open meeting laws when it met secretly to discuss a report on the city\u2019s police chief and his top captain.<\/p>\n

The Commission last month placed Chief Keith Schroeder and Capt. Jon Barnett on paid administrative leave until officials can decide their future. They were suspended after a city assessment found low morale and reports of a hostile work environment at the police department.<\/p>\n

Stenehjem says the report discussed during the April 3 closed meeting is public under the state\u2019s open meeting laws.<\/p>\n

Stenehjem\u2019s order says the commission must release the audio or a transcript of the executive session.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The head of North Dakota’s Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy says eliminating the agency could undo several years of work that marked a rapid decrease in youth and adult smoking rates in the state.<\/p>\n

The agency, also known as BreatheND, is funded by a percentage of the state’s tobacco settlement fund, which is from a 1998 agreement between states and major tobacco companies.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Legislature recently withdrew BreatheND’s funding and will move the settlement money to the North Dakota Department of Health budget in July.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers say tobacco prevention programs are better situated in the state Health Department.<\/p>\n

Republican Rep. Al Carlson says the funds “should flow to one place.”<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Fargo’s police chief was among several Red River Valley officers who traveled to Washington D.C. over the weekend to honor an officer who was killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n

The name of Fargo officer Jason Moszer was among those added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial as part of National Police Week. A candlelight vigil honoring fallen officers was held over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Fargp Police Chief Dave Todd says it was an emotional moment that should help officers move through their grief and remember that Moszer was a “special guy.”<\/p>\n

Moszer was shot and killed last year after responding to a domestic disturbance. The gunman was wounded by a police sniper then fatally shot himself during a standoff.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota cattle producers are cheering the latest industry development \u2014 the reopening of the Chinese market to U.S. beef.<\/p>\n

China is one of the world’s largest importers of beef. The country has been closed to U.S. producers for 13 years after mad cow disease was found in some Washington cattle.<\/p>\n

North Dakota State University livestock economist Tim Petry says the two countries still need to work out some details, including whether cattle who received genetically modified feed will be accepted. The trade agreement covers a number of long-standing barriers in areas ranging from agriculture to energy to the operation of American financial firms in China.<\/p>\n

North Dakota Stockmen’s Association president Warren Zenker tells the Bismarck Tribune the agreement opens the door for the sale of some commonly recognized beef cuts, like chucks and rounds, as well as other specialty cuts, to nearly 1.4 billion new customers.<\/p>\n

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (CSi)\u00a0 The University of Jamestown Jimmies baseball team fell short in the 9th inning at the NAIA Baseball Opening Round action, Monday, as Concordia Nebraska defeated the Jimmies 8-7, in the Tabor, Kansas bracket.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies rallied for 3 runs in the 9th inning, but left the bases loaded and fell short by a run from tying the game.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies season record now stands at 40-20.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies will face Tabor, the number 3 seed,\u00a0at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota State University softball team will face defending national champion Oklahoma in the NCAA tournament.<\/p>\n

The Summit League champion Bison are making their fourth straight appearance and eighth overall in the Division I tournament.<\/p>\n

They’ll face the Big 12 champion Sooners on Friday afternoon in the regional in Norman, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

The other two teams in the regional are Tulsa and Arkansas. The regional winner moves on to a super regional, and the winner of that moves on to the eight-team Women’s College World Series in early June in Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Trump administration is accusing the Syrian government of mass killings of thousands of prisoners and burning the bodies in a large crematorium outside the capital. The State Department says about 50 detainees each day are being hanged at a military prison about 45 minutes from Damascus. It says the crematorium is being used to hide evidence of the killings.<\/p>\n

SEATTLE (AP) \u2014 Arguments have wrapped up in a federal appeals court in Seattle over President Donald Trump’s travel ban. The three-judge panel from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had tough questions for each side. The judges gave no indication of when they might rule.<\/p>\n

LONDON (AP) \u2014 The worldwide “ransomware” cyberattack ebbed in intensity on Monday, with thousands of computers affected in Asia but no new large-scale outbreaks. Experts warned, however, that new versions of the virus could emerge. The new infections were largely in Asia, which had been closed for business when the malware first struck on Friday, disrupting businesses, schools, hospitals and daily life.<\/p>\n

HAMAM AL-ALIL, Iraq (AP) \u2014 A senior U.S. official praises territorial gains against the Islamic State group during a visit to Iraq, but local officials say more aid is needed to rebuild on the heels of victories against the extremists. The U.S. military footprint in Iraq has steadily grown in the build-up to and throughout the Mosul operation. But the funds made available for humanitarian relief and stabilization remain a fraction of defense spending in the IS fight.<\/p>\n

PARIS (AP) \u2014 French President Emmanuel Macron says he has never pushed for jointly issued eurobonds and doesn’t favor European countries taking joint responsibility for old debts. Macron’s message at a news conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday was aimed at calming German concerns that he might revive an issue that divided European countries at the height of the eurozone debt crisis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
