News Feb 6, 2013) &#8212; The Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation Board of Directors has voted unanimously to have Champ Industries to repay a $45,000 in a grant it received in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The reason is because of hiring stipulations that haven&#8217;t been fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday&#8217;s (Feb 6, 2013) Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, JSDC&#8217;s DeAnn Brunner said, the original grant helped cover Champ&#8217;s relocation and expansion costs and was based on $5,000 in grant money for each of 32 full-time equivalent employees.<\/p>\n<p>Champ was found to be nine employees short of the goal of 32 employees on Dec. 31, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The JSDC had extended Champ Industries one year of extra time to add the required employees.<\/p>\n<p>She said, the money collected from Champ will be held in escrow and the JSDC will return $5,000 for each new hire made before the end of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>It was noted at the board meeting that the loan documents on the Cherry Berry store had been signed.<\/p>\n<p>Kal Patel has purchased the building on Highway 281 South, and the Cherry Berry franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Patel is looking at options for another business venture within the building.<\/p>\n<p>A tentative spring opening date is planned, at the former Master Bread Store location.<\/p>\n<p>Patel received a Flex Pace interest buy down incentive plan for the Cherry Berry operation in September 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Feb 6, 2013) \u2014 A bill in the North Dakota Senate is designed to assist individuals with special needs find jobs.<\/p>\n<p>District 12\u00a0Democratic Senator, John Grabinger of Jamestown<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 2182 would provide the South Central Human Service Center in Jamstown with up to $308,000 for the next biennium, to provide transitional employment for those with mental illness or chemical dependency, to help train or partially employ those individiuals.<\/p>\n<p>Grabinger says, the funding, provided previously is no longer in the budget for South Central Human Services, and is looking at being restored.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a bill introduced by Grabinger, has been withdrawn by the senator, which would fund county roads with a portion of the sales tax proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>It would have transferred 1.5 percent of the 5 percent sales tax collected by the state to the county where it was collected.<\/p>\n<p>The county could have only use the money for infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Grabinger says he could not find bi-partisan support for the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A former sheriff&#8217;s deputy in Arizona accused of driving to North Dakota to beat up a man who had an affair with his wife is to stand trial late this winter.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The jury trial for Timothy Abrahamson has been scheduled for March 12 in state court in Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Abrahamson has pleaded not guilty to an aggravated assault charge in the incident last September in West Fargo in which authorities say the victim suffered a torn ear, facial cuts, swelling and bruising.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Abrahamson is a former detective for the Maricopa County Sheriff&#8217;s Department in Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN&#8217;-juhm) has obtained arrest warrants for two Utah men he says were unlicensed contractors working at a Dickinson construction site where a fatality occurred.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stenehjem says Kevin Parkin and Clint Petersen, both of Salt Lake City, have failed to cooperate with officials investigating the December 2011 worker death that occurred when a water and sewer pipe trench caved in at a home construction job site. The victim was identified as Casimiro Medina, also of Utah.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stenehjem says a third contractor, from Idaho, cooperated with the investigation and paid a $2,000 fine for operating without a license.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Fargo lawmaker is proposing that the state of North Dakota buy out the contract of its university system chancellor.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Republican Tony Grindberg says Hamid Shirvani is a &#8220;questionable&#8221; leader who has created &#8220;an environment of fear and retaliation.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shirvani calls it a &#8220;public attack&#8221; and says he has no plans to step down. State Board of Higher Education President Duaine Espegard says the board supports the chancellor. The board has the power to hire and fire chancellors for the state university system, which oversees 11 public campuses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shirvani has been at the helm of the university system for only seven months. His contract runs through June 2015. The estimated cost of buying out the contract is at least $600,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In world and national news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; Congress could still stand in the way &#8212; but for now, the Postal Service is making plans to end Saturday mail delivery, as of this August. Postal officials have wanted to make this move for years, but lawmakers have blocked the idea. And it&#8217;s again running into opposition from farmers, the letter carriers&#8217; union and others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>IRVING, Texas (AP) &#8211; Leaders of the Boy Scouts of America say they need more time, before a decision is made on whether to move away from the policy of excluding gays as scouts or adult leaders. A proposed change would have allowed individual troops to decide whether to admit gays. But gay-rights supporters say no Scout units should be allowed to exclude gays, while some religious leaders whose churches sponsor troops are warning against easing the ban. The Scouts&#8217; national council will decide the issue during a meeting in May.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; President Barack Obama says he wants REI business executive Sally Jewell to lead his Interior Department. Jewell is the president and chief executive officer at REI, which sells clothing and gear for outdoor wear. She is the first woman the president has nominated for his Cabinet in the second term. Obama noted her record of environmental stewardship at REI. If confirmed, Jewell would replace current Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who held the post throughout Obama&#8217;s first term.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; U.S. officials say budget pressures will force the Pentagon to cut its aircraft carrier presence in the Persian Gulf from two carriers to one. They say Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has formally approved a plan to keep just one carrier in the region. Panetta Wednesday laid out a grim list of spending cuts that he said the Pentagon will have to make in the coming weeks. He said the cuts would damage the country&#8217;s economy and hurt the military&#8217;s ability to respond in a crisis.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BEIRUT (AP) &#8211; Activists say Syrian rebels and regime forces have been engaged in their most intense clashes in weeks today inside the heavily guarded capital. The sounds of shell blasts have echoed through the downtown area. Many children were kept home from school, and residents hid in their houses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DETROIT (AP) &#8211; Detroit police say a 70-year-old high school basketball coach shot and killed a teenager who they say was trying to rob him. They say the coach was accosted by two teen boys Friday evening while walking two girls outside the school. According to police, the teens announced a robbery and struggled with the coach, who pulled a handgun and fired. He&#8217;s a reserve police officer who is licensed to carry a gun. A 16-year-old was killed and a 15-year-old was wounded. The mother of the teen who died says her son didn&#8217;t have a gun.
