STANLEY, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The Highway Patrol has identified a Stanley man who died in a motorcycle crash in Mountrail County.<\/p>\n
Authorities say 20-year-old Dylan McGinnity lost control on a curve on state Highway 8 shortly after midnight Friday.<\/p>\n
The bike went in the ditch and vaulted off an approach, throwing McGinnity. The motorcycle then landed on top of him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say they will never know what started a large fire at a Minot recycling business, though they have some theories.<\/p>\n
The blaze at Earth Recycling broke out about midday on May 18. It produced heavy smoke that could be seen for miles. Witnesses said the fire started near a loading ramp.<\/p>\n
Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Ken Sisk says he couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause due to flare-ups and safety concerns. But he says the cause could be discarded smoking materials, or a pallet of flammable household items containing a box of mirrors.<\/p>\n
The Minot Rural Fire Department is continuing to monitor the site as the fire continues to smolder out, nearly two weeks later.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Documents provided to an online magazine indicate a private security firm hired by the developer of the disputed Dakota Access oil pipeline conducted an aggressive, multifaceted operation that included a close working relationship with public law enforcement.<\/p>\n
The Intercept reports the documents show Energy Transfer Partners hired TigerSwan to help with security. The firm was founded by retired military special forces members. The documents show TigerSwan used military-style counter-terrorism measures against what it considered “an ideologically driven insurgency.”<\/p>\n
The magazine reports that it obtained documents through leaks and through open records requests.<\/p>\n
Native American advocates say the report lends credence to their belief that law enforcement favored private industry in the monthslong dispute. Law enforcement and pipeline developer Energy Transfer Partners say safety was the top priority.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao is headlining an annual unmanned aircraft conference in Fargo.<\/p>\n
Chao is scheduled to kick off the two-day Drone Focus Conference Wednesday morning at the Fargo Civic Center. She leads the agency that oversees the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates drone operations.<\/p>\n
Chao is one of about 45 speakers at the Fargo conference, which will include sessions on autonomous vehicles and other technology.<\/p>\n
U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, of North Dakota, says Chao also plans to meet with representatives from Grand Forks to learn about regional research, operations and development of unmanned aircraft.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Cool, dry weather is putting stress on crops in parts of North Dakota.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s crop report says temperatures across much of North Dakota averaged 2 to 6 degrees below normal for the week ending Sunday, and most areas received little or no rain. The exception was northwestern North Dakota, where temperatures averaged 2 to 4 degrees above normal and some parts reported a half-inch of rain.<\/p>\n
Some emerged crops and pastures are showing signs of stress and need rain and warmer weather.<\/p>\n
Corn planting has reached 94 percent, which is close to last year’s 95 percent but ahead of the five-year average of 86 percent. Sixty-six percent of the corn has emerged, which is behind 72 percent last year but ahead of the 54 percent average.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Some North Dakota cities near oil patches are seeing a drop in residents as the state’s overall population continues to flourish.<\/p>\n
Estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday show Minot’s population of more than 48,700 in 2016 fell by nearly 800 residents from the previous year. That’s nearly 1.6 percent of the city’s population.<\/p>\n
State census director Kevin Iverson says the estimated population is still up 19.2 percent from April 2010.<\/p>\n
Iverson says the drop mostly is due to young, adult males moving as job and wage situations change because of slower activity in the oil fields.<\/p>\n
Last year, Williston, Watford City and Stanley also saw population declines. North Dakota saw the most growth in and around Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks.<\/p>\n

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) \u2014 The Iowa Energy has changed their name to the Iowa Wolves, reflecting Minnesota’s<\/span> recent purchase of the D-League franchise.<\/p>\nThe Timberwolves made the announcement Tuesday at Wells Fargo Arena, the 14,000-seat arena where the franchise has played since its inception in 2007.<\/p>\n
With Minnesota<\/span> coach Tom Thibodeau in attendance, the Timberwolves unveiled their new affiliate’s logo and colors. The Wolves’ colors are navy blue and bright green, much like Minnesota’s<\/span> new identity, with a secondary logo featuring an outline of the state of Iowa and a large “W” in the middle.<\/p>\nThe D-League has added 10 teams in the last 30 months and will have a league-record 26 teams in 2017-18, when it will be known as the NBA Gatorade or G-League.<\/p>\n

Collier and Hudelson defeated Nathan Smith and Todd White 1-up in the match play quarterfinals on the Pinehurst No. 2 course that has hosted three U.S. Opens.<\/p>\n
They will face the team of Patrick Christovich and Garrett Rank, an NHL referee from Canada who finished second in the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur, in one of two semifinals Wednesday.<\/p>\n

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) \u2014 The PGA of America announced Tuesday that Southern Hills Country Club will host the Senior PGA Championship in 2021 for the first time, and that the PGA Championship will return for a fifth time.<\/p>\n
The earliest available date for the PGA Championship at the historic Perry Maxwell-designed layout in Tulsa, Oklahoma is 2024. No date was given for the Senior PGA Championship.<\/p>\n
Southern Hills has not hosted a major since Tiger Woods won the 2007 PGA.<\/p>\n
Founded in 1936, Southern Hills also hosted the PGA Championship in 1970, 1982, and 1994, and was the site of the U.S. Open in 1958, 1977 and 2001.<\/p>\n
