Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Council met in Regular Session Monday evening at City Hall.\u00a0 All members were present.<\/p>\n

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS DISCUSSED SEPARATELY:<\/p>\n

Council Member Buchanan asked that Items J and K be discussed.<\/p>\n

J. Resolution to authorize the issuance of a $2,500,000 Definitive Improvement Warrant with an interest rate of 2% and a term of thirty (30) years to finance the construction and engineering costs on 5th St NE between 12th Ave NE and 27th Ave NE (Paving District #16-42).<\/p>\n

K. Resolution to authorize the issuance of a $3,347,000 Definitive Improvement Warrant with an interest rate of 2% and a term of thirty (30) years to finance the construction and engineering costs on 20th Ave SW from Menards to the JRMC (Paving District #16-43).<\/p>\n

He questioned if the loan is from the Bank of North Dakota, does that mean the Special Assessments are also for a 30 year period?<\/p>\n

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs pointed out that the Specials are expensive, and the 30 year period makes the payments easier.\u00a0 He said the Specials could be paid off sooner, if preferred.<\/p>\n

Both items were approved by the City Council.<\/p>\n

Following the Public Hearing, A SECOND READING<\/strong>: of the Ordinance\u00a0 was then approved.\u00a0 Council Member Buchanan said he was aware of public objections, and was disappointed that no one from the public was present at Monday’s meeting to express their concerns.\u00a0 There had been some written protests filed.<\/p>\n

Council Member Buchanan voted in opposition.\u00a0 Mayor Andersen said 4-of-5 council member yes votes were needed for approval<\/p>\n

The City Council approved the appointment of Craig Olien, to serve as a member of the Regional Airport Authority to fill the unexpired term of Brent Harris, to \u00a0December 2020. \u00a0Council Member Phillips voted in opposition.<\/p>\n

MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBER’S REPORT:<\/p>\n

Council Member Phillips pointed out that the Jamestown Downtown Association is working on promotional items adding that on Tuesday a meeting will be held on trafficking.<\/p>\n

Council Member Buchanan added that a number of recreational vehicles are parked on the wrong side of the street.<\/p>\n

The issue will be brought to the June Police Committee meeting for discussion.<\/p>\n

The City Council approved recognizing the Jamestown Area Youth Baseball as an other spirited organization and to authorize the issuance of a calendar raffle permit with drawings to be held June 2017 thru August<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen reminds residents of continued street\/road construction in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

On Monday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, she said, currently 5th St NE between 12th Ave NE & 17th Ave NE is closed to through traffic due to road construction.\u00a0 The closure will continue for approximately 3 \u2013 4 weeks.<\/p>\n

Motorist should use extreme caution in this area and use alternate routes as necessary.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also, residents along 5th Street Northeast are being informed about limited access to their property as paving is on-going in conjunction with paving to the Two Rivers Activity Center.\u00a0 The work is expected to be completed in time for the TRAC opening in August this year.\u00a0 Infrastructure work has already been completed on 5th Street Northeast.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen added that utility work has started on the new road between Menard’s and Jamestown Regional Medical Center, followed by paving.<\/p>\n

She said infrastructure replacements have been scheduled in sections of Jamestown this summer where the old lines are being replaced.<\/p>\n

The Northeast section of Jamestown is this year seal coat project.<\/p>\n

BERTHOLD, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Officials say a registered sex offender from Alabama wanted on numerous felony warrants has been hiding out in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the 41-year-old man was convicted of sexually abusing a child in North Dakota among other felonies. Police say the man was a passenger in a vehicle stopped in Berthold. He was arrested for providing false information and drug possession.<\/p>\n

Ward County jailers ran a fingerprint check and learned he was wanted in Alabama. He was booked into the jail Friday and is expected in court Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Bismarck\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has published a draft of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and it will be available for comment from June 5, 2017 to July 6, 2017.\u00a0 The STIP is a four-year program of transportation improvements that are funded with federal highway and transit monies.\u00a0 Improvements include projects on the state and county highways, urban streets, roadway safety features, bikeways, as well as busing programs, which will be funded with federal funds.<\/p>\n

Bismarck\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Gov. Doug Burgum has accepted an invitation from the White House to meet Thursday with President Trump, senior administration officials, fellow governors, mayors and other stakeholders on ways to improve the nation\u2019s infrastructure through partnerships.<\/p>\n

The invitation came after Burgum spent time with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao during Wednesday\u2019s Drone Focus Conference in Fargo, including a one-on-one discussion about how federal investment in transportation infrastructure can have a greater economic impact locally. Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford will join Burgum for the June 8 meeting at the White House.<\/p>\n

In sports\u2026<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi-VCSU)\u00a0 VCSU\u2019s Mark Potts was named the North Star Athletic Association Sports Information Director of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday, May 24, during the NSAA Summit meetings in Watertown, S.D.<\/p>\n

Potts has served as sports information director since 2013. Under his guidance, Viking athletics has improved its presence online and on social media. This year he led the creation of a new VCSU athletics mobile app in conjunction with SIDhelp. The app launched in January and has been downloaded by about 650 users.<\/p>\n

He took on a large role in the revamped Viking Awards Banquet this spring and the first North Star Baseball Honors Banquet, held in Valley City ahead of the NSAA Baseball Championships. He also served as tournament SID for the Baseball Championships.<\/p>\n

On a day-to-day basis, Potts is responsible for all VCSU athletic publicity, including communication with local media, stats and record keeping, stories, photos and videos. He also oversees VCSU\u2019s live video streaming of home events and various aspects of game management.<\/p>\n

Potts will now be nominated for the NAIA Sports Information Director of the Year Award.<\/p>\n

Bismarck\u00a0\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 North Dakota deer hunters are reminded the deadline for submitting applications for the 2017 gun season is June 7. Hunters are encouraged to apply online at the state Game and Fish Department website, gf.nd.gov.<\/p>\n

The deadline applies to muzzleloader, regular gun, gratis and nonresident landowner, and youth antlered mule deer applications (specifically for antlered mule deer in units 3B1, 3B2, and 4A-4F).<\/p>\n

A new law passed by the North Dakota State Legislature allows youth who turn age 11 before the end of the calendar year to receive a whitetail doe license valid for only the youth deer hunting season. Therefore, 10-year-olds who turn age 11 in 2017 are eligible to receive an antlerless whitetail license. Hunter education is not required until the youth turns age 12.<\/p>\n

State law requires residents age 18 or older to prove residency on the application by submitting a valid North Dakota driver\u2019s license number or a North Dakota nondriver photo identification number. Applications cannot be processed without this information.<\/p>\n

Gratis applications received on or before the regular deer gun lottery application deadline (June 7) will be issued an any-legal-deer license. As per state law, gratis applications received after the deadline will be processed based on licenses remaining after the lottery \u2013 generally only antlerless licenses remain.<\/p>\n

The application deadline for regular statewide youth deer licenses is Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The White House says President Donald Trump will not assert executive privilege to try to block testimony by fired FBI Director James Comey. Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders says the president’s power to invoke privilege is “well-established.” However, she says Trump will not take that step in order to ensure a “swift and thorough examination of the facts” related to Comey’s firing and the multiple investigations into Russia’s election meddling.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 President Donald Trump is once again criticizing London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Twitter. The president tweeted that Khan had offered a “pathetic excuse” for an earlier tweet saying Londoners had ‘no reason to be alarmed.’ Trump incorrectly said Sunday that Khan was telling people not to be alarmed over the terrorist attack when the mayor was actually telling people not to be alarmed by the city’s increased police presence.<\/p>\n

LONDON (AP) \u2014 An Australian newspaper says a 34-year-old Brisbane woman is recovering from the London attacks after being stabbed in the neck. Candice Hedge’s father says his daughter was hiding under a table at a restaurant when one of the attackers came up behind her and slashed her throat with a knife.<\/p>\n

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) \u2014 Bill Cosby’s TV daughter says she’s in attendance at a suburban Philadelphia courtroom on the first day of the actor’s sexual assault trial to show support. Keshia Knight Pulliam played the 79-year-old comedian’s youngest daughter, Rudy, on the top-rated “Cosby Show.” She said Monday that her truth is to be at court and to be supportive.
