That figure surpasses the previous high of 613 students in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The summer enrollment numbers were bolstered by record enrollment in VCSU\u2019s graduate programs, which established a summer record of 166 students and an FTE record of 62. The facility, a North Dakota Soybean Processors\u2019 (NDSP) project, will utilize 125,000 bushels of soybeans per day once completed.<\/p>\n<p>NDFU President\u00a0 Mark Watne says, \u201cHaving a commodity processing facility like this in North Dakota is essential to helping farmers and ranchers.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have another avenue to market soybeans in state, and value is being added to that crop. Anytime we add value to a commodity, we enhance farm income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott Austin, general manager of Minnesota Soybean Processors which is the majority investor and managing member of the project, said the facility will have a major impact on value-added agriculture in the state. \u201cIt is great to have an organization like NDFU, that represents producers from all over the state, be a part of this.Throughout this process, NDFU has provided great support to NDSP. We are grateful and look forward to our partnership with them for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watne says he hopes the project paves the way for more processing facilities in the state, especially those that are farmer-owned.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the project, go to <em>ndsoy.com<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stirum ND (CSi) \u00a0 A two vehicle crash in Sargent County Saturday claimed the life of a 19 year-old West Fargo man.<\/p>\n<p>The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the male was traveling north on 123rd Avenue on a Honda dirt bike at around 11:26 PM. The bike was not equipped with a headlight and the speed of the dirt bike is unknown. Clayton Hoffman, 56, of Oakes was driving south in a UTV when he failed to avoid the dirt bike and struck it head on.<\/p>\n<p>The 19 year-old was thrown from the bike. He was transported to the Oakes Community Hospital where he died from his injuries sustained in the crash. Hoffman and his passenger, Julie Serfoss, 55, of Oakes were not injured in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffman was taken into custody after the crash and charges are pending against him in the investigation. Alcohol was a factor in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities are investigating the death of a person who was struck by a vehicle on a runway at Hector International Airport in Fargo.<\/p>\n<p>Airport Executive Director Shawn Dobberstein says\u00a0 construction was underway on the runway at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Police confirmed the fatality early Monday and planned a midmorning news conference to release details.<\/p>\n<p>The incident did not delay any air traffic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>DUNN CENTER, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities have identified a Killdeer man who died in a crash involving two motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Patrol says 54-year-old Kenneth Whelchel lost control of his motorcycle on a rural road north of Dunn Center, and it went in the ditch shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at a Dickinson hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A motorcycle that was following Whelchel also went in the ditch. That driver was flown to a Minneapolis hospital for treatment of what the patrol says are serious injuries. He was identified as 23-year-old Zachary Pavlicek, of Dunn Center.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Most adult North Dakotans will soon be able to carry a hidden gun without a permit.<\/p>\n<p>The new measure that goes into effect on Tuesday August 1, 2017, \u00a0allows law-abiding adults to forgo background checks and classes that are now required to carry a concealed gun.<\/p>\n<p>The measure is among more than 400 new laws about to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>One new law reduces penalties for first-time drug offenders.<\/p>\n<p>Another says students can\u2019t be prohibited from participating in student-initiated prayer at school activities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi)\u00a0 \u2013 North Dakota is granted an emergency declaration providing regulatory relief for commercial motor vehicle operations.<\/p>\n<p>The North Dakota Highway Patrol says, direct assistance with emergency relief efforts transporting hay, feed, livestock, supplies and equipment into or from the state, or providing other assistance in emergency services during the severe drought emergency is allowed.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota is exempted from parts 390-399 of title 49 code of federal motor carrier regulations through August 26, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Direct assistance terminates when a driver or commercial motor vehicle is used in interstate commerce to transport cargo or provide services not directly supporting the emergency relief effort. A copy of the federal declaration must be carried in the vehicle providing direct relief.<\/p>\n<p>Current state waivers for permits, permit fees, and weight exemption remain in place as stated by the executive order.<\/p>\n<p>The full declaration is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nd.gov\/ndhp\/motor-carrier\">www.nd.gov\/ndhp\/motor-carrier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi-JRMC) Team Jerry\u2019s Kids retained its first-place title\u00a0in 2017\u00a0 in Jamestown Regional Medical Center\u2019s GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD tournament held July 21, 2017 at Jamestown Country Club.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The team\u2019s name, \u201cJerry\u2019s Kids,\u201d is in memory of the late Jerry Baenen. Baenen had played in each GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD tournament since the event\u2019s origin seven years ago.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After his death in December 2016, JRMC organized this summer\u2019s GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD in Baenen\u2019s memory. The tournament benefits the upcoming JRMC Cancer Center.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Baenen is remembered as a loveable golfer who was generous with both his time and money. A cancer survivor, Baenen knew that cancer is not an illness you fight alone. To help, Baenen volunteered his time with Stutsman County Relay for Life. He\u2019d also drive people to their oncology treatments in Bismarck, if they needed it.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Team Jerry\u2019s Kids consisted of Baenen, who was in his 80s, Orr, age 54, as well as Orr\u2019s stepson, Brent Giesler, and friend, Michael Nogosek, who are both in their 20s.This year, Baenen\u2019s daughter, Julie Jeske, played in his honor. She also took top prize for the Jerry Baenen Longest Putt Contest. Jerry\u2019s Kids took first place in the contest with a score of 48. Team Layered \u2013 Cody Champagne, Lucas Morken, Brian Meyer and Cody Lausch \u2013 took second with a score of 49.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Julie says \u201cI will always remember my dad saying \u2018Drive for show, putt for dough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Thirty-four teams competed in this year\u2019s tournament, raising more than $28,000.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0JRMC Foundation director, Lisa Jackson says, \u201cGOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD is a great excuse to support a great cause.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Miles matter when it comes to cancer care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Each year, the JRMC Cancer Center will provide chemotherapy infusions for more than 100 residents of Jamestown and the surrounding communities. Currently, those people travel more than 100 miles for that care. This will eliminate more than 160,000 miles of travel per year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Julie adds, Jerry Baenen knew that those miles matter, saying, \u201cCancer is a battle you don\u2019t fight by yourself. It pretty much takes a village to help you through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The JRMC Cancer Center will include six infusion rooms, a consultation area and space for nurses and staff. (AP) \u2014 Bystanders rescued a woman and three children after their sport utility vehicle overturned in a slough in central North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Patrol says the 22-year-old woman driving the SUV and towing a car lost control on U.S. Highway 83 near Max Sunday afternoon, and the vehicle ended up in the water.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say six bystanders stopped and were able to flip the vehicle upright, break out windows and rescue the woman and her passengers \u2014 a 5-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl and 3-month-old boy.<\/p>\n<p>One of the bystanders performed CPR on one of the children until help arrived. All of the people in the vehicle were taken to a Minot hospital with unknown injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The patrol says the woman is being charged with driving under suspension and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 There&#8217;s an ongoing national debate on life-without-parole sentences for juveniles, but it&#8217;s no longer an issue in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions regarding life sentences for juveniles led state lawmakers to pass a bill this year banning life sentences without the possibility of parole for those under 18. It provides a chance for release to offenders who as juveniles were convicted of crimes such as murder and sexual assault resulting in injury. Offenders can petition for a judicial sentencing review after 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota has one inmate who was sentenced to life without parole as a juvenile. Barry Garcia was 17 when he was convicted of shooting and killing a West Fargo woman. A Fargo judge in January rejected Garcia&#8217;s appeal requesting a second chance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>WILLOW CITY, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The remains of a North Dakota sailor who was killed at Pearl Harbor will soon be coming home for burial.<\/p>\n<p>Navy Fireman 1st Class Lawrence Fecho will be buried with full military honors during a service in Willow Creek on Aug. 13.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Minot Daily News , Fecho was on the USS Oklahoma in Pearl Harbor when the ship was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. It was hit by multiple torpedoes and capsized. A total of 429 crewmen died, including Fecho.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the deceased were not immediately identified.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the Department of Defense ordered that unidentified remains from the USS Oklahoma be exhumed and analyzed.<\/p>\n<p>Fecho&#8217;s remains were recently identified through DNA analysis and circumstantial evidence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Two Muslim women subjected to a threatening rant that was recorded and widely circulated online say they have forgiven the woman who verbally attacked them.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Hassan is one of the women who was threatened in a Walmart parking lot in Fargo. She says she and Leyla Hassan have forgiven Amber Hensley and she wants people to know that forgiveness matters most.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Hassan says &#8220;We forgive her &#8230; because we are all human beings in the end.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hensley has said she was upset that the women were parked too close to her car and she lost her cool. One of the women recorded video of Hensley shouting &#8220;We&#8217;re going to kill all of you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The women met last week with Fargo police Chief David Todd to reconcile.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Students at North Dakota State University in Fargo are working with NASA scientists to develop a better technique for 3D printing in space exploration.<\/p>\n<p>The Wahpeton Daily News reports that the 11 students working with a NASA field center in California called Jet Propulsion Laboratory range from freshmen to graduate students. They&#8217;re pursuing majors in mechanical engineering, computer science and electrical engineering.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re working on developing a software algorithm, which will reduce the number of support structures required to fill an object.<\/p>\n<p>The students meet once a week with the lab&#8217;s staff through videoconferencing.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jeremy Straub, an assistant professor at NDSU, says having students assist in resolving actual problems NASA faces is inspirational.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In sports&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD is co-sponsored by Davis Real Estate Services and Physicians Realty Trust.
