Bismarck, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Feb 14, 2013) — The North Dakota State Senate Thursday approved House Bill 1269, allowing Woodworth, and Streeter to obtain Stutsman Rural Water District water.<\/p>\n

Aroung 750 households in that area are affected.<\/p>\n

SRWD expects to advertise for construction bids within 30 days.<\/p>\n

Construction is likely to start this spring.<\/p>\n

The project\u2019s total estimated cost is about $14 million.<\/p>\n

The balance will be borrowed from U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.<\/p>\n

The bill, previously approved by the house contains $9.97 million in grants for SRWD.<\/p>\n

The house passed the bill 85-3, and the Senate passed the bill 43-4.<\/p>\n

Senators voting against the bill were Democrats John Grabinger, Jamestown, Philip Murphy, Portland, Carolyn Nelson, Fargo, and Connie Triplett, Grand Forks.<\/p>\n

Governor Dalrymple is expected to sign the bill today (Friday).<\/p>\n

The State House Energy and Natural Resources Committee is considering House Bill 1440, which that would also establish criteria for considering future state grants to water districts, which could affect the dispute between the city of Jamestown and Stutsman Rural Water District, conerning territory around Jamestown including the Titan Machinery building currently under construction. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Arts Center hosts the Annual Gala on Saturday February 23, 2013.<\/p>\n

On Thursday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Director, Taylor Barnes asks those planning to attend to please call the Arts Center at 251-2496 to make reservations, with the gala to be held at the Quality Inn and Suites, in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that the proceeds go to support the general operations of the Arts Center.<\/p>\n

The cost is $75 per ticket.<\/p>\n

Ms. Barnes also said the Arts Center will host the Jamestown High School production of “The 25th<\/sup> Annual Putman County Spelling Bee,” on February 28, and March 1, 2013, at 7:30 each evening.<\/p>\n

She added that the Arts Center is resuming Saturday hours, beginning March 2, 2013 from 10-a.m., to 2-p.m.<\/p>\n

On March 7, 2013 the Arts Center will host auditions for the next production of the 2nd<\/sup> Act Community Theater, “Almost Maine,” from 7-10-p.m.<\/p>\n

Plans are being made for some redesigning of t he Arts Park on First Avenue South in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The process includes spring planting designs, space for performances, along with pathways, and a seating area.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BINFORD, N.D. (AP) – A 90-year-old red-brick schoolhouse that closed down a decade ago is getting new life in a small North Dakota town. Officials in the Midkota School District say the old school in Binford is needed to handle an increase in enrollment. The district includes five communities in east-central North Dakota.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota Senate committee has given a “do not pass” recommendation to a measure aimed at exempting clothing and shoes from sales tax.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The full Senate is slated to vote on the measure Friday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The measure would exempt clothing and shoes from the state’s 5 percent sales tax. Local sales taxes also would be exempted.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tax analysts say the measure would reduce state and local tax revenue by about $49 million over the next two years.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A similar measure failed in the Senate two years ago.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) has ruled that North Dakota State University can legally accept a three-year federal grant to conduct comprehensive sex education.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Two NDSU faculty members had been awarded a $1.2 million grant to offer voluntary comprehensive sex education to Fargo-area teens ages 15 to 19 with parental consent.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sex education program is a partnership with Planned Parenthood. The grant was frozen after attorneys questioned whether it would violate a state law that forbids government funding to people or groups that encourage abortion. But the attorney general says 30-year-old court rulings invalidated that law.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NDUS Chancellor Hamid A. Shirvani says the ruling is good news for the school.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday announced the formal selection process for the research facilities. Applicants have 80 days to submit proposals.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota site would be located in the Grand Forks area, which is home to military and border patrol drones, as well as unmanned aircraft programs at the University of North Dakota and nearby Northland Community and Technical College in Minnesota.

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Supporters of a $1.8 billion flood control channel around Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota say they need to do a better job at public relations. A subcommittee of the Red River Diversion Authority will ask the group’s board for money to promote the channel and its controversial staging area that would flood an area south of the city during times of serious flooding.

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The regional administrator for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration kicked off a safety campaign in the North Dakota oil patch by urging operators to end fatalities.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0OSHA leader Gregory Baxter led the discussion Thursday in Minot to highlight what the industry calls a safety stand down. Companies are being asked to shut down for a period of time to conduct inspections or provide safety training.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Baxter told the group that “the nation’s eyes are on you” and said companies need to stop the “injuries, illnesses and deaths.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Attempts by officials in Fargo and West Fargo to enact local ordinances to license strippers have been derailed by state law.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The two cities along with neighboring Moorhead, Minn., have been working on proposals to require strippers, escorts and exotic dancers to register with authorities. Police believe it would help curb illegal activity such as prostitution.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota statute prohibits cities from regulating performances and obscene materials.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Supporters of the University of North Dakota’s retired nickname have made one last push to restore the Fighting Sioux moniker. Lawyers for the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe’s pro nickname Committee for Understanding and Respect asked a federal appeals court yesterday to reverse a lower court order dismissing their lawsuit against the NCAA. Supporters claim they weren’t included in discussions when the NCAA and the state negotiated to retire the nickname.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota boxer Virgil Hill says he wants one more fight in the state to thank the fans.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hill made the announcement on Thursday at the state Capitol in Bismarck. Hill says he doesn’t have an opponent yet but he wants the fight to take place in North Dakota where he grew up.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The five-time world champion is to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this summer. The 49-year-old Hill says he’s been training in Los Angeles, California for the past year and feels fit.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hill won an Olympic silver medal as a middleweight, and won 50 fights as a pro. His last victory came over Valery Brudov in 2006.

FOX Sports North will serve as the exclusive television home for the Minnesota Twins, televising nearly every game not scheduled for national network TV.<\/p>\n

This season commemorates a 25 year partnership between the Minnesota Twins and the regional sports network.<\/p>\n

FOX Sports North\u2019s regular season coverage begins Monday, April 1 with the Twins home opener versus Detroit, the first of eighteen televised games against the Tigers.<\/p>\n
