Dickinson\u00a0 (Csi) \u00a0On Thursday morning, \u00a0NDHP officers responded to several vehicle crashes which occurred on Interstate #94 between the Dickinson and Hebron area.\u00a0 These crashes were a result of changing weather conditions (sleet\/rain\/snow) in the area which led to icy road conditions.\u00a0 In total, 6 vehicle crashes were investigated (5 Property and 1 Injury).\u00a0 In addition, multiple vehicles, which did not sustain damage or injury to the occupants, slid into the median\/ditch in this area.\u00a0 In addition to these crashes, a two vehicle head on fatality crash occurred on Highway #22 about 12 miles north of Dickinson this morning.\u00a0 This crash was also due to icy road conditions from changing weather conditions (sleet\/rain\/snow).<\/p>\n

Due to changing winter weather which can directly affect road conditions, all motorists are asked to be aware of inclement winter weather, drive cautiously and slow down where necessary, and plan their trip in advance to arrive safely due to inclement weather and road conditions. While traveling, utilize vehicle seat belts and limit distractions to be aware of the possible changing conditions.\u00a0 Winter weather kits containing extra blankets and clothing, food items, water, and a source of heat need to be stored in the vehicle.\u00a0 Road condition information can be obtained by calling 511 or visiting the NDDOT travel information map at www.dot.nd.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Georgia man is dead after a crash on an icy highway in western North Dakota.<\/p>\n

The Highway Patrol says the 81-year-old man from East Point, Georgia, was a passenger in a pickup truck that spun out of control on state Highway 22 north of Dickinson and collided with another pickup.<\/p>\n

The crash happened about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Georgia man was pronounced dead at a Dickinson hospital.<\/p>\n

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals with unspecified injuries.<\/p>\n

None of the people involved were immediately identified.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, no injuries when a Jamestown man\u00a0 rolled his truck pulling a belly dump trailer\u00a0 load of sand, Thursday morning about 10:40-a.m.,\u00a0 along the Highway 52 bypass and Stutsman County Road No. 40.<\/p>\n

Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Herzig reports 27 year old Tyler Goodroad, of Jamestown was traveling southbound at around 10:40-am when he failed to slow to a reasonable speed prior to turning east onto a county road and rolled, spilling the sand.<\/p>\n

County road traffic was diverted for approximately one hour.<\/p>\n

The report says Goodroad was charged with Care Required.<\/p>\n

The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Minot woman has been sentenced to serve 1 1\/2 years in prison for embezzling from her father’s business.<\/p>\n

25-year-old Doddi Erickson pleaded guilty to stealing from John’s Auto Body between 2014 and 2015 and was recently sentenced.<\/p>\n

In addition to the prison time, Erickson was ordered to pay nearly $20,000 in restitution.<\/p>\n

Erickson has a criminal history that involves convictions for drug use, drug possession in jail, bail jumping and child neglect.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Police won’t release the name of a North Dakota officer involved in a shooting in part because he is invoking a new law that expands the rights of crime victims.<\/p>\n

The officer was attacked after responding to a call Oct. 15 at a Bismarck motel. Police say he was punched in the head and had his eyes gouged before he shot and wounded his attacker.<\/p>\n

Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin tells The Associated Press that the officer invoked Marsy’s Law, which voters approved last year. Donlin says names are typically released after shootings are reviewed by the state, but he’s not sure that will happen now.<\/p>\n

Jack McDonald, an attorney who frequently represents North Dakota media outlets, says withholding the officer’s name is a “perversion” of the law.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The builder of the Dakota Access oil pipeline and the federal agency that permitted the project are objecting to an effort by American Indian tribes to bolster protections for their water supply.<\/p>\n

Lawyers for Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners and the Army Corps of Engineers argue separately in court documents that the proposals by the Standing Rock Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux are unnecessary or unwarranted.<\/p>\n

The dispute centers around the $3.8 billion pipeline’s crossing of the Missouri River’s Lake Oahe (uh-WAH’-hee) reservoir in southern North Dakota. Both tribes get water from the lake and fear contamination should the pipeline leak. They want more protections while the Corps completes further review that the court ordered on the pipeline’s impact on tribal interests.<\/p>\n

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg will decide later whether to grant the tribes’ request.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Grand Forks is hosting a Pride of Dakota Holiday Showcase this weekend.<\/p>\n

State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says more than 100 vendors are expected to have booths at the Alerus Center on Saturday and Sunday. North Dakota-made merchandise will include everything from food to jewelry.<\/p>\n

Admission is $2, which includes a reusable shopping bag. Shoppers who bring their own bag receive $1 off admission.<\/p>\n

More than 500 companies are members of the Agriculture Department’s Pride of Dakota branding program. Holiday showcases also are planned in Minot, Fargo and Bismarck in the next month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Projects in North Dakota that promote specialty crops are getting $2.2 million in grant money.<\/p>\n

State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring recently announced the grant awards to 29 projects that promote the development, cultivation, production or sale of specialty crops.<\/p>\n

The federal government defines specialty crops as fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and horticulture and nursery crops. North Dakota is a leading producer of several of them, including dry beans, dry peas, potatoes and lentils.<\/p>\n

The grant money comes from the federal government. It’s distributed through a formula that takes into account crop acreage and production value. Projects at North Dakota State University are getting most of the money.<\/p>\n

WHITE RIVER, S.D. (AP) \u2014 The remains of a South Dakota veteran, who was killed during the Korean War, have been returned home and laid to rest.<\/p>\n

The Rapid City Journal reports that observances were held on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 for Sgt. Philip James Iyotte.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of Native Americans, veterans and local residents paid tribute to the fallen Lakota warrior as a procession that carried his remains took him home from a funeral home in Rapid City.<\/p>\n

Iyotte was buried at a family plot in a Two Kettle cemetery.<\/p>\n

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 at 20 years old. Iyotte disappeared after being captured as a prisoner of war in 1951.<\/p>\n

Iyotte’s remains were identified earlier this year by U.S. and Chinese officials.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Project Ignite Light is a North Dakota organization that provides children from ages infant to 18 important items needed when they are relocated from their home due to physical and\/or sexual abuse or neglect. Each child receives a tote bag with a fleece blanket, pajamas, socks, underwear, toiletries, food, water, a flashlight and the book \u201cYou Are Special\u201d by Max Lucado.<\/p>\n

The University of Jamestown\u2019s Volleyball and Basketball Teams on Friday November 3, 2017 are having a fundraiser for the program, \u00a0at Newman Arena, by collecting pajamas.<\/p>\n

Those attending may wear their PJs, and bring a pair of new children size PJs to donate to Project Ignite the Light.<\/p>\n

Assistant UJ Volleyball Coach, Kelsey Titus said the pajamas should be two pieces, not a one-piece, and all sizes for girls and boys. She adds that those bringing the pajamas \u00a0will be entered into a prize drawing.<\/p>\n

The UJ Volleyball match is at 4-p.m., vs. VCSU.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s basketball game starts at 6-p.m., and the men\u2019s game tips off at 8-p.m., at Harold Newman Arena on the UJ campus, taking on Northwestern College of Iowa.<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 Minnesota<\/span> Twins slugger Miguel Sano will have surgery for a persistent leg injury that knocked him out for six weeks during the season. Sano’s injury was initially diagnosed as a stress reaction, and he was sidelined during the team’s surprise late-season drive to a wild-card playoff spot. Sano finally came back for the last regular-season series but wasn’t put on the postseason roster.<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 The Minnesota<\/span> Twins on Thursday announced the home schedule for their 2018 spring training. Twins pitchers and catchers are scheduled to begin their workouts on Feb. 14. The team’s first full-squad workout is set for Feb. 19. The Twins’ spring schedule features 33 games _ 17 home games and 16 on the road _ starting with a home opener exhibition against the University of Minnesota<\/span> at CenturyLink Sports<\/span> Complex in Fort Myers, Florida, on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n

The NBA says it will hold its draft lottery in Chicago next spring. The league announced Thursday the event will be held outside of New York or New Jersey for the first time on May 15. HOUSTON (AP) \u2014 Houston began welcoming the World Series champion Astros as heroes immediately after their charter flight landed at Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport.<\/p>\n

Water cannons on airport firetrucks sprayed a victory arch of water over the team plane after it landed about 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Fans and media were kept at a distance from the jet as it taxied to a cargo tarmac, where the Astros boarded buses headed to Minute Maid Park.<\/p>\n

The celebration continues Friday with a 2 p.m. victory parade through downtown Houston that will end with a rally on the City Hall steps, where Mayor Sylvester Turner will pay tribute to the team.<\/p>\n

All classes in the Houston school district school have been canceled for the day.<\/p>\n

LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 Police say the home of Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig was burglarized while his team was losing the World Series.<\/p>\n

Police say officers answered a burglary alarm at the Encino, California, home Wednesday evening and found a smashed window with several items taken. There’s no word on the value of the items.<\/p>\n

Puig was at Dodger Stadium, where the team lost Game 7 to Houston 5-1.<\/p>\n

Puig bought the home about a month ago.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old South Korean player birdied all three par-5 holes at TPC Summerlin, Nos. 13 and 16 on his first nine and No. 9 on his second nine. Kim was fourth two weeks ago in South Korea in the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup.<\/p>\n

BEIRUT (AP) \u2014 Israel’s military says a civilian was shot and wounded by stray fire from across the border amid “intense fighting” in neighboring Syria. It says the Israeli civilian was lightly hurt on Friday from the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.
