{"id":132472,"date":"2017-11-07T09:39:33","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T15:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=132472"},"modified":"2017-11-08T07:24:55","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T13:24:55","slug":"vcsu-athletes-named-this-weeks-football-playersweek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=132472","title":{"rendered":"VCSU football players of the week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Madison, SD (VCSU Sports) Sophomore\u00a0Louis Quinones\u00a0and\u00a0Dominic Kruse\u00a0were both named Dacotah Bank\/NSAA Football Players of the Week on Monday after big performances in VCSU\u2019s 40-14 win over University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Louis Quinones\u00a0of Valley City State (N.D.) was honored as the Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate\u00a0Dominic Kruse\u00a0was selected as the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.\u00a0 Cameron Newsome of Waldorf (Iowa) was chosen as the Defensive Player-of-the-Week.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-132478\" src=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Quinones-Kruse-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Quinones-Kruse-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Quinones-Kruse.jpg 689w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Louis Quinones\u00a0is a \u00a05\u20199\u2033 \u2013 176 lbs., Sophomore \u2013 running back\u00a0 from \u00a0Colorado Springs, Colo.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Quinones racked up 314 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns in Valley City State\u2019s (N.D.) 40-14 win over arch-rival Jamestown (N.D.).\u00a0 He returned the opening kick-off 87 yards for his first touchdown of the game.\u00a0 As a running back, he averaged 7.8 yards per carry as he piled up 171 rushing yards in 22 attempts.\u00a0 Quinones had three rushing touchdowns in the game.\u00a0 His 314 all-purpose yards (171 rush, 143 kick return) was just two yards shy of VCSU\u2019s school record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dominic Kruse\u00a0is a \u00a06\u20190\u2033 \u2013 210 lbs., Sophomore \u2013 linebacker from Thief River Falls, Minn.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Kruse blocked a punt and recovered a fumble on back-to-back special teams plays in Valley City State\u2019s (N.D.) 40-14 victory at Jamestown (N.D.).\u00a0 With VCSU leading 6-0 early in the first quarter, he blocked a punt which was scooped up by teammate\u00a0Hunter Olson\u00a0and returned for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead.\u00a0 On the ensuing kick-off, Kruse recovered a fumble deep in Jimmie territory, setting the Vikings offense up with a short field and two plays later the Vikings scored for a 20-0 lead.\u00a0 Kruse also added a tackle on a kick return later in the game.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Madison, SD (VCSU Sports) Sophomore\u00a0Louis Quinones\u00a0and\u00a0Dominic Kruse\u00a0were both named Dacotah Bank\/NSAA Football Players of the Week on Monday after big performances in VCSU\u2019s 40-14 win over University of Jamestown.
