Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 A truck took out a utility pole Thursday morning just before noon, causing a power outage to the immediate area, at 12th<\/sup> Avenue and 8th<\/sup> Street Southeast in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Otter Tail Power Company Operations Manager in Jamestown, Charles Krebs says Otter Tail crews were on the scene to replace the pole and reconnect service, expected by 6-p.m., Thursday.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce is taking parade entries for the Friday, December 1, 2017\u00a0 Annual Parade of Lights.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Chamber\u2019s Event Coordinator, Jerilyn Beckman tells The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 that the parade is on Friday December 1, 2017 starting at 6-p.m. on Central Avenue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Line-up for the parade will start at 5:30 PM in the Youth Sports Complex parking lot.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) \u2013 Another business workshop presented by SCORE, is set for Jamestown on Monday December 11, 2017.<\/p>\n

On a recent \u00a0CSi Wayne Byers Show on Channel 2, David Smette said, the group of former business owners and entrepreneurs\u00a0 will host the event at the University of Jamestown’s Larson Center, at 8-a.m.<\/p>\n

He pointed out, the group provides\u00a0 guidance free of charge,\u00a0 including free legal, tax and insurance advice from experts, and provides workshops.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 An equity drive to recruit investors in the planned North Dakota Soybean Processors crushing plant at Spiritwood continues with upcoming meetings set for Jamestown and Valley City.<\/p>\n

The meetings are scheduled for December 11, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at FEI Inc. in Valley City.<\/p>\n

In Jamestown the meeting is on December 12, 2017 at the JSDC lower level conference room in Jamestown, from 11-a.m. to 1-p.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Andrew Schott, a certified registered nurse anesthetist at JRMC, was recently elected President Elect of the North Dakota Association of Nurse Anesthetists (NDANA). The NDANA is a 325-member organization of North Dakota CRNAs. It is also a part of the 50,000-member American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), whose mission is to \u201cadvance patient safety, practice excellence, and its members\u2019 profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

A certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice nurse who specializes in the administration of anesthesia.<\/p>\n

Schott\u2019s main role as president will be to run the spring and fall meetings, with topics including practice, legislation and budget. The AANA also meets once a year in Washington D.C. for legislative purposes.<\/p>\n

Schott explained, \u201cHere in North Dakota, it\u2019s not as much of an issue, but in some states the nurse anesthetists are still having independence issues.\u00a0 We have gained a lot of ground in North Dakota, so our main goal is to further and protect that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schott was encouraged run for office from the director of the University of North Dakota\u2019s nurse anesthesia program, Kevin Buettner.<\/p>\n

Schott added, \u201cI\u2019ve been politically involved in other things in the past, so I guess Kevin thought I would be a good fit.\u00a0 It is a big responsibility, but I decided to go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schott is no stranger to big responsibilities. He is also a member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau Board, sits on the board for UND anesthesia candidate interviews, partner on his family farm, and a husband and father of three.<\/p>\n

Schott said, \u201cI am proud to represent JRMC. We have a very well-respected anesthesia practice in our community and in the anesthesia community. People from other facilities really watch what we\u2019re doing closely because we\u2019re independent, we are supported by our administration and we\u2019re doing a lot.\u201d\u00a0 He and five other CRNA\u2019s at JRMC assist with more than 3,000 surgeries a year.<\/p>\n

Schott\u2019s term as president will officially begin in November of 2018, where he will serve a two-year term.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi) Valley City Public Schools announces that Washington Elementary School teacher Natalie Boe has received the 2017-2018 North Dakota Technology and Engineering Educators Association Teacher Excellence Award.<\/p>\n

She will receive the award at the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association National Conference in Atlanta next spring.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Two law enforcement agencies working together in the Fargo-Moorhead area to round up fugitives say they arrested 79 people during the month-long operation.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Marshals Service’s High Plans Fugitive Task Force and Fargo’s Metro Street Crimes Unit targeted people wanted on federal, state or local felony warrants. It focused on finding known gang members or associates and people who committed violent offenses or drug-trafficking crimes.<\/p>\n

The effort was tabbed Operation Deja vu. Authorities say the majority of people arrested had been apprehended by the task force at least once previously in the last five years. Police arrested a 30-year-old Fargo man who had warrants dating back to 2015.<\/p>\n

Some people were apprehended in the Grand Forks area. There were two arrests in Florida, including a 35-year-old man from Moorhead.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Board of Higher Education met behind closed doors for about an hour to discuss a labor complaint against the university system chancellor.<\/p>\n

The complaint was filed by former vice chancellor Lisa Feldner after she was fired by Chancellor Mark Hagerott in September. Feldner accuses Hagerott of creating a hostile work environment and discriminating against women. Hagerott says he “strong disagrees” with her assertions.<\/p>\n

The board did not discuss the complaint when it returned to open session at Thursday’s meeting. Board President Don Morton says the group doesn’t want to debate it publicly.<\/p>\n

Hagerott has been running the university system since July 2015. He’s paid $372,000 annually.<\/p>\n

The board at its September meeting rejected requests by board member Mike Ness for a special meeting to discuss Hagerott’s contract.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) \u2014 The Oglala Sioux Tribe is once again looking for a new police chief after the person it hired failed to show up for the job.<\/p>\n

Grace Her Many Horses was expected to start her new job last week. She’s a police captain on the Fort Berthold reservation in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Oglala law and order committee vice-chairwoman Lydia Bear Killer says the tribe decided to hire Her Many Horses because of her experience with securing grants, complying with federal regulations and hiring more officers on the Rosebud reservation. Her Many Horses submitted a letter of intent to take the job, went through interviews and a background check.<\/p>\n

The Rapid City Journal says her reason for failing to report to her new job is not clear. She has not responded to messages seeking comment.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A city in west-central North Dakota is working to address blighted properties, also known as “zombie” homes, which were neglected after a devastating flood over five years ago.<\/p>\n

The Minot Daily News reports the Minot City Council proposed during a Tuesday meeting to use $800,000 of a federal grant for an involuntary acquisition program to purchase blighted properties. The council also proposed using another $800,000 to create a small business revolving loan fund.<\/p>\n

The plan re-allocates unused money from a 2012 Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program.<\/p>\n

The proposal would offer owners of blighted properties current value on their homes in the buyout. Landowners neighboring these properties could also purchase the adjacent lots.<\/p>\n

The city council will seek public comment on the plan over a 30-day period.<\/p>\n

SIOUX CITY, Iowa\u00a0\u00a0 (UJ)\u00a0 — The\u00a0 University of Jamestown Volleyball team defeated Texas Wesleyan Volleyball\u00a0 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 on Thursday in the NAIA Tournament.<\/p>\n

The 19th-ranked Jimmie volleyball team needed a victory over Texas Wesleyan and a Lindsey Wilson victory over Cornerstone (Mich.) to advance to the final bracket of 16 at the 2017 NAIA Volleyball Championship, on Friday.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (23-9) used a balanced offensive attack while forcing the Rams into 25 attack errors on the way to a 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 win.<\/p>\n

Four Jimmies had at least six kills in the match, led by Morgan Hensch<\/a> (SR\/Fergus Falls, Minn.) with nine. Hensch (.318), Haley Glasoe<\/a> (SR\/Wildrose, N.D.) (.313), and Kennedy Conzemius<\/a> (JR\/Breckenridge, Minn.) (.300) helped UJ to an overall hitting percentage of .257. Josie Beckman<\/a> (JR\/Jamestown, N.D.) passed out 20 assists and Whitney King<\/a> (SR\/Pierre, S.D.) 13.<\/p>\n

Jamestown will play\u00a0 Viterbo, as the V-Hawks finished in first place in Pool B in the first round of the NAIA single elimination bracket, \u00a0Friday at 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) \u2014 Federal prosecutors are recommending a former Louisiana congressman serve no more jail time now that many of the convictions against him have been overturned. William Jefferson, a Democrat, has served more than five years on a 13-year sentence following a bribery conviction. But he was released from prison earlier this year. A judge ruled that seven counts of conviction against him should be tossed out because of a recent court ruling making it tougher to convict public officials for bribery.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The White House says Rex Tillerson continues to lead the State Department. That’s after reports that White House officials are discussing a plan to replace Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo in what would be a major shake-up of the president’s national security team. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says there are “no personnel announcements at this time.” She says Tillerson continues to lead the department.<\/p>\n

DETROIT (AP) \u2014 A woman who alleges she was sexually harassed by Detroit Congressman John Conyers says she’d testify before Congress. Marion Brown told The Associated Press on Thursday that she’d go before the House Ethics Committee if asked. Brown says she’d prefer to be subpoenaed. She says other witnesses also would testify under subpoena. Several House Democrats have called for Conyers to resign following allegations of sexual harassment by multiple former staffers. He’s denied the allegations.<\/p>\n

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) \u2014 Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, Texas’ most-senior member of Congress, announced Thursday that he won’t seek re-election after a nude photo of him appeared online. A conservative activist also revealed past messages of a sexual nature from him. Barton had initially ignored calls to retire but change his mind as political pressure mounted.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she supports the Republicans’ sweeping tax package, now that it would allow oil drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Murkowski got the provision added earlier this week, but her initial version violated arcane Senate rules about which provisions can be added to the tax bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
