Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Feb 27, 2013) — A prayer service for 24 year old Jamestown College Mass Communications student, Josh Berg was held at St. Aloysius Church in Lisbon on Thursday, February 221. 2013.<\/p>\n

Josh, from Lisbon died Februay 16, 2013 of a pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot.<\/p>\n

He would have graduated this spring (2013.)<\/p>\n

Jamestown College will remember Josh during the 11 a.m. chapel service on Thursday at Voorhees Chapel, on the college campus.<\/p>\n

Jamestown College is organizing an annual scholarship in Berg\u2019s name, to begin next year. Donations may be made to the scholarship fund through the Office of Institutional Advancement, at 6082 College Lane.<\/p>\n

\u00a0LISBON, N.D. (AP) – A judge has ruled that the case against a Fort Ransom\u00a0\u00a0woman\u00a0 accused of battering her infant son to death should proceed.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-nine-year-old Jodi Lindvall was originally charged with murder and child abuse for the death of 22-month-old Bentley Lindvall, who died on Sept. 22.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say an autopsy determined the boy had been physically abused and died of a head injury. Lindvall told authorities her son hit his head while she was struggling to change his diaper.

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A former Three Affiliated Tribes law enforcement officer accused of harboring two men who escaped from a New Town jail has been sentenced to probation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jessica Folden was charged in federal court with hindering law enforcement. The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Jake White Body and Brandon Young Wolf were at Folden’s residence after they escaped from the Gerald Tex Fox Justice Center in New Town last May.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Folden allegedly lied to officers about the whereabouts of the fugitives and refused to let officers search her residence for several hours.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The two suspects were eventually apprehended.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Folden to 18 months of probation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court has ruled that more than 400 American Crystal Sugars workers in North Dakota who are locked out in a contract dispute are eligible for unemployment benefits.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The decision reverses a lower court’s ruling that said the workers were not eligible for benefits because North Dakota law prohibits unemployment insurance for workers involved in labor disputes.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nearly 1,300 American Crystal Sugar workers in North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa have been locked out since Aug. 1, 2011, after their union rejected the cooperative’s proposed contract.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Locked-out workers in Minnesota and Iowa were eligible for unemployment benefits.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Union spokesman John Riskey says “justice has been served” for the 420 workers affected in North Dakota.

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot officials are proposing that part of a half-cent city sales tax be used to help pay for a flood control project.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The money would come out of an existing tax that is now split with 50 percent going to capital improvements, 40 percent to economic development and 10 percent for property tax relief.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new plan changes that formula to 50 percent for flood control, 25 percent for capital improvements, 15 percent for economic development, and 10 percent for property tax relief.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Minot is planning a $530 million flood control project. The Souris River flooded more than 4,000 homes and businesses in the summer of 2011.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court has ruled against the man who wanted to be the North Dakota Libertarian candidate for governor.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state had ruled earlier that Roland Riemers, of Grand Forks, didn’t qualify for the ballot because his lieutenant governor candidate didn’t turn in the right paperwork.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Riemers argued that the Democratic and Republican candidates for governor didn’t fill out their paperwork correctly either – and they should have been dropped from the ballot.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Supreme Court ruled said in a ruling released Tuesday that there’s no evidence that the state discriminated against Riemers.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Republican-led House voted 70-24 against forming an ethics commission.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House assistant Democratic leader Corey Mock of Grand Forks and Rep. Ed Gruchalla of Fargo sponsored the measure aimed at forming a nine-member ethics commission.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Backers of the proposal say North Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming are the only states that don’t have an ethics commission or committee.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature also defeated an attempt to create an ethics commission in 2011.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate approved a measure Monday that closes loopholes used by oil companies in exchange for lower taxes.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Republican-led body passed the bill 34-13. Democrats say the measure could cost the state billions of dollars in lost revenue in time.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mandan Sen. Dwight Cook says the measure attempts to bring certainty to the tax code to keep companies drilling. The measure would cut the exemption for so-called stripper wells that is costing North Dakota about $50 million annually.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In exchange, the measure would charge oil companies an effective tax rate of 9.5 percent beginning in 2017 instead of the 11.5 percent tax rate they’re charged now.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Republican Sen. Tony Grindberg of Fargo offered a floor amendment Tuesday to the higher education funding bill to buy out the final two years of Shirvani’s three-year contract, at a cost of about $854,000.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Grindberg has questioned Shirvani’s leadership style.
