(AP) &#8211; Police in Valley City say two men broke into the American Legion hall, forced their way into a safe and left with cash.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Fred Thompson says the men entered the Main Street building late morning Thursday and first checked the register for money. After finding none, they broke into the safe, grabbed cash and left through a back door.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson says the suspects were recorded on video, and it&#8217;s possible that someone saw the men shortly before or after the burglary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A lawmaker&#8217;s use of a hashtag on Twitter prompted an apology on the House floor.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Freshman Rep. Jessica Haak sent a tweet on the social media site during a Wednesday recess that said she&#8217;d been told by Rep. Al Carlson not to tweet when the chamber was in session. Haak ended her tweet with hashtag &#8220;Nazi.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haak, a Democrat from\u00a0 District 12, in Jamestown, met with state party leaders after the House adjourned. She also met with Carlson. On Thursday, she read a statement that apologized for her conduct without referencing the tweet directly.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Carlson, a Fargo Republican,\u00a0says \u00a0he accepts the apology.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota State University professor Ann Burnett says \u00a0the kneejerk nature of social media can translate to less respect in the Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Mar 1, 2013) &#8212; The Jamestown City Council will meet in Special Session, then recess to an Executive Session this afternoon at 4 O&#8217;Clock at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The council will consult with the city attorney, to discuss territorial service claims by Stutsman Rural Water District.<\/p>\n<p>At issue is whether the City of Jamestown, or Stutsman Rural Water District is to serve the area west of Jamestown, in this case, specifically the Titan Machinery building, under construction, across from Jamestown Regional Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the state water commission has approved a $9.97 million grant for Stutsman Rural Water District, on a 8-1 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The grant was authorized by the State Legislature, and signed into law by Governor Jack Dalrymple.<\/p>\n<p>Testifying at the water commission meeting was Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen.<\/p>\n<p>She gave testimony to the commission concerning background about Stutsman Rural Water not honoring the purchase agreement, and pointed out State House Bill 1440, which sets out a series of guidelines for handling territory disagreements between cities and rural water organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed the House on February 26<sup>th, and is pending in the Senate.<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>She added that the city would like to see the same things applied in this situation.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor asked the commission for a delay in granting the request until an agreement was reached, saying the city would have a better position to negotiate from if the funding was delayed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities have identified a man who died in a collision with a school bus in southwestern North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says 59-year-old Paul Eddy of Craig, Colo., was driving a pickup truck that crossed the center line on state Highway 22 about three miles north of Dickinson on Thursday morning and struck the bus.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There were no students on the bus. The bus driver and a passenger in Eddy&#8217;s pickup were taken to a Dickinson hospital with undisclosed injuries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck, N.D. KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, that two serious crashes and several close calls on North Dakota roadways have highlighted the need to remind motorists to obey the &#8220;Move Over Law&#8221; when encountering authorized emergency vehicles and maintenance vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Since January 1, 2013, two North Dakota Highway Patrol vehicles, with lights activated, have been struck while providing traffic control. These crashes have resulted in several injuries to the troopers and motorists involved.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Patorl reminds motorists that when vehicles approach an authorized emergency vehicle on a multi-lane highway outside city limits, motorists must move to a lane not adjacent to the emergency vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>This must be done with regard to safety and other traffic. If the motorist cannot move to another lane, the driver must proceed with caution, reduce speed, and maintain a safe speed for road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Col. Jim Prochniak, says,&#8221;The purpose of this law is to ensure safety for all emergency and maintenance personnel working along our state\u2019s roads. We urge citizens to obey this important law to provide a safe environment for all those involved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Failure to comply with the Move Over Law may result in a $50 fine and two points assessed to their driving record.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Minot man accused of shooting another man after a dispute at a mobile home court has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-one-year-old Brian Muzzy is accused of shooting 32-year-old Shaun Scott on Jan. 20. Muzzy entered his plea Thursday in state court. If convicted, he faces at least four years in prison and as many as 20 years.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Muzzy also pleaded not guilty to a felony drug charge that could bring a sentence of 10 years in prison. Authorities allege he was caught with marijuana in his jail cell.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for dealing methamphetamine in North Dakota and elsewhere.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Uriel Curiel had pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and money laundering.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Curiel and others traveled to Illinois to obtain the drugs. Curiel was arrested more than a year ago in Chicago.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A judge earlier this week ordered that Curiel be incarcerated in the nearest prison to his mother&#8217;s house in California.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Three other men have been convicted in case. Juan Barrios was sentenced to 18 years in prison, Rafuel Fuentes to 11 years, and Cristobal Garza to 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Transportation Department has launched a smartphone app and an email or text message system to help give information to the public.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The app provides access from a smartphone or a device such as an iPad to the department&#8217;s travel information map that gives an overview of road conditions across the state. Advanced options also are available that provide access to such things as camera views.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The email or text message service called GovDelivery enables people to be notified about information including road conditions, job openings and state fleet vehicle auctions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s top budget official says the oil-rich state is &#8220;very well-positioned&#8221; to weather looming federal spending cuts &#8211; if it has to do so. Budget director Pam Sharp says North Dakota might lose about $20 million in federal funding in fiscal 2013 if President Barack Obama and Republican lawmakers don&#8217;t reach an agreement today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0OMAHA, Neb. (AP) &#8211; A monthly economic survey index for nine Midwest and Plains states dipped last month, suggesting only slow growth for the region over the next three to six months.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Mid-America Business Conditions index hit 53.1 in February, compared with 53.2 in January and 49.5 in December.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says the region&#8217;s manufacturing sector &#8220;continues to restrain overall growth for the region and nation.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The survey of business leaders and supply managers uses a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. (AP) &#8211; The U.S. Agriculture Department says preliminary spring wheat prices in North Dakota are down 70 percent in February from the previous month.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota office of the National Agriculture Statistics Service says the price in February was $7.60 a bushel. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Senate has approved just under $124 million for a new University of North Dakota medical school. The proposed expansion of the medical school is being driven by concerns that the state&#8217;s growing population of senior citizens and oil patch workers will worsen a shortage a health care workers. The state House must also approve the funding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota lawmakers have finished the first half of the 2013 Legislature and are beginning a five-day break.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Members of the House and Senate finished voting on bills in their respective chambers on Thursday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Legislators will take Friday, Monday and Tuesday off.
