(AP) \u2014 North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring (GOHR\u2019-ing) is running for re-election.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old Republican was appointed to the job in 2009 by former Gov. John Hoeven when Democrat Roger Johnson resigned to make a successful run for the presidency of the National Farmers Union, based in Washington, D.C. Before that, Goehring ran twice against Johnson and lost both times.<\/p>\n<p>Goehring defeated Democratic challengers Merle Boucher in 2010 and Ryan Taylor in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats so far have no announced challenger this year.<\/p>\n<p>Besides promoting agricultural interests and markets for farm products, the commissioner also sits on the state Industrial Commission, which regulates North Dakota\u2019s oil industry.<\/p>\n<p>Goehring says he also still farms and ranches near the rural community of Menoken, about 15 miles west of Bismarck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISMARCK, N.D.
