{"id":142253,"date":"2018-04-06T10:22:53","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T15:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=142253"},"modified":"2018-04-09T09:17:13","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T14:17:13","slug":"james-river-humane-society-dog-adoptions-procedures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=142253","title":{"rendered":"James River Humane Society dog adoptions, procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-45953\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/HumaneSocietyGirlPuppy-300x202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/HumaneSocietyGirlPuppy-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/HumaneSocietyGirlPuppy-259x175.png 259w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/HumaneSocietyGirlPuppy.png 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The James River Humane Society over the past year had 148 dog adoptions and 124 cat adoptions.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the shelter\u2019s Dog Manager, Kris Meidinger said, presently there are 15 dogs available for adoption, the maximum, adding that the Humane Society currently has eights cats available.<\/p>\n<p>She says when accepting dogs, the priority is, first taking in dogs from the city pound, followed by owner surrendered dogs, then dogs from area pounds, and then area surrenders.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that the James River Humane Society has taken in a number of displaced dogs from Texas stemming from last summer\u2019s hurricane.<\/p>\n<p>When the animals are taken in they are tested for disease, and then given immunization, and either spayed or neutered.<\/p>\n<p>When accepting dogs surrendered by owners, their immunization records are checked to make sure they are updated.<\/p>\n<p>Kris pointed out that the James River Humane Society has testing available to see if potential adopted animals will get along with dogs or cats already in a home, along with children.<\/p>\n<p>If there\u2019s a good match the adoption will go through, pending passing other criteria.\u00a0 If not, another dog or cat may be a good match following testing, that\u2019s conducted at the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>She added that adoption forms are available on their web site:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesriverhumanesociety.org\">www.jamesriverhumanesociety.org<\/a> which includes a link to petfinder.com<\/p>\n<p>or at the shelter, located off the I-94 Bloom Exit.<\/p>\n<p>Call 701-252-0747 for more information including volunteer opportunities and socializing with the animals.<\/p>\n<p>The shelter is open everyday, 9-a.m. to 11:30-a.m., and 5:30-p.m., to 6:30-p.m., or visit by appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Also on our show James River Humane Society, board member Jay Nitchke said at the recent annual board meeting a new president was elected.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The James River Humane Society over the past year had 148 dog adoptions and 124 cat adoptions.
