LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY…MAINLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 2. A WINTRY MIX IS POSSIBLE BEFORE MIDNIGHT ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST. ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE MOSTLY UNDER A HALF INCH AND INCREASE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN JAMES RIVER VALLEY WHERE UP TO 2 INCHES IS POSSIBLE.<\/p>\n

Bismarck, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Mar 8, 2013) — The National Weather Service rports, that despite recent snow and its moisture content, the flood outlook as of today, in the James River basin remains low.<\/p>\n

Current forecasts show less than a 5 percent chance of flooding of any type at Grace City in the northern basin. and at LaMoure in the southern basin.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s is a decrease from a 10 percent flooding probability at Grace City two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Pipestem Creek at Pingree is now at a 7 percent chance of flooding compared to an 11 percent chance of flooding forecast two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Pipestem Dam Manager,Bob Martin, says the snow depth had increased from 10.8 inches to 15.2 inches over the past two weeks.<\/p>\n

Moisture content in the snow increased from 1.79 inches to 2.13 inches during that time..<\/p>\n

Martin says the moisture content at its present amount, is really not at levels of concern.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service says there is still a concern with overland flooding especially south of Jamestown, and could be affected by the amount of spring rain on the snow pack.<\/p>\n

The current long range forecasts have equal chances of above- or below-normal precipitation for the three-month period.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Pipestem Dam was releasing 2 cubic feet per second matching inflows from springs and keeping the reservoir level steady.<\/p>\n

No water is presently being released from Jamestown Dam.<\/p>\n

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Mar 7, 2013) \u2013\u00a0 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will begin the drawdown of four of its western area reservoirs to the maximum drawdown elevations in preparation of spring flooding forecasted by the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

The Corps\u2019 drawdown plans include:<\/p>\n

Baldhill Dam, <\/strong>near Valley City, N.D., is targeted to reach its maximum drawdown elevation of 1,257 feet by the end of March. The Corps initiated part of the drawdown in October 2012. The reservoir is currently just above elevation 1,262 feet.<\/p>\n

As of Thursday the flood outlook in the Sheyenne River Valley for any major flooding is low. That could change pending additional amounts of snow, and spring rains.<\/p>\n

Homme Dam, located near Park River, N.D., will be lowered to its maximum elevation of 1,064 feet by the end of March. The Corps initiated part of the drawdown at the dam in November 2012. The Corps will begin the final portion of the drawdown at the reservoir March 8. The pool is currently at elevation 1,076 feet.<\/p>\n

Lake Traverse, near Wheaton, Minn., is targeted to reach its maximum drawdown elevation of 974 feet by the end of the month. The reservoir is currently one foot below the conservation level with two feet remaining.<\/p>\n

Orwell Reservoir, near Fergus Falls, Minn., is targeted to reach its maximum drawdown elevation of 1,050 feet by the end of March. The reservoir is currently just above elevation 1,063 feet.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The mayor of North Dakota’s largest city says he has “no serious concerns” with the recent National Weather Service report that calls for major spring flooding along the Red River.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The weather service in a report released Thursday gives the river in Fargo a 50 percent chance of cresting just under 34 feet, or about 16 feet above flood stage.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Crest predictions in the new outlook are up slightly from last month.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker says city officials will discuss the report Monday in their second flood meeting of the season. He says they will base their planning on the 50 percent prediction.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If the 34 feet number holds, a temporary clay dike would likely be built in front of city hall, but few other structures would be threatened.<\/p>\n

On Thursday\u2019s (Mar 7, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, spokesmen Joe Larson and Jeff Oster, said this is the El Zagel Mystics largest fundraiser of the year.<\/p>\n

Tickets are Adults $15, Children 6-12 years old $5, and under 5 eat free.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available at Shady\u2019s Lounge, or from any El Zagal Mystics member, or at the door.<\/p>\n

(Tickets are not deductible for charitable purposes, all proceeds don not go the Shrine Charities.)<\/p>\n

Proceeds go in part to the transportation fund to allow children to go to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

From ND Special Olympics\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — On March 2, 2013 the YMCA\/Larson Center, in Jamestown, hosted the Annual Polar Plunge event for Special Olympics North Dakota.<\/p>\n

More than 20 people registered for this event and despite the cold weather, took the plunge into icy waters. In 20 degree weather, many Jamestown College students and community volunteers and many more spectators came to support the event and raise awareness for the athletes of Special Olympics North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Over $5,000 has been raised so far, that\u2019s more than a $230 average raised per person.<\/p>\n

The event was recorded by CSi-T.V.10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, with the showing dates TBA<\/p>\n

Some of the top fundraisers included Jamestown College, and Valley City State University.<\/p>\n

Jamestown College raised more than $1000 and took home the Golden Plunger award.<\/p>\n

The award goes to the Plunge Team that raises the most money.<\/p>\n

VCSU raised more than $800 for the event.<\/p>\n

Wade Wintermeyer, a Special Olympics North Dakota athlete from Jamestown raised $1160 and came in as the top individual fundraiser at the event.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. News Mar 7, 2013) — Fourteen North Dakota companies will travel March 16-23, 2013, to Beijing and Guangzhou, China, to showcase the state’s high-quality agricultural commodities and food products to some of the China’s largest food manufacturers and processors.<\/p>\n

Going along on the trip will be representatives of Dakota Pride Co-op, of Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Organized by the North Dakota Trade Office (NDTO), the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) and the Northern Crops Institute (NCI), the “Better for You Food Ingredients” event will be led by Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and officials from the NDTO and NCI.<\/p>\n

The event includes a conference and exhibition designed to further introduce North Dakota’s high-quality food ingredients to the Chinese food manufacturing market.<\/p>\n

NCI crop specialists will give presentations to Chinese buyers, and research and development specialists and food manufacturers, while chefs prepare Chinese dishes with North Dakota value-added ingredients including: flax, sunflowers, barley, wheat, flour, pasta, soybeans, peas, lentils and dry edible beans.<\/p>\n
