A second school record also fell as Sayge McKrill recorded the top women\u2019s discus throw in school history.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the VCSU team competed at the Northern State Twilight Meet in Aberdeen, S.D., while Johnson and the rest of the VCSU jumpers competed at the Blue Hawk Games in Dickinson. Valley City State athletes combined to win four events at the two meets.<\/p>\n<p>A few VCSU runners also competed Saturday at the Earth Day Run Half Marathon in St. Cloud, Minn., which included a third-place finish by\u00a0Louis Leon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this was a historic weekend for several of our student-athletes, we are confident that the coming weeks will bring continued improvement performance-wise and weather-wise,\u201d said VCSU head coach\u00a0Chris Johnson. \u201cI am proud of all the student-athletes who have been putting in the work on the track despite less than ideal conditions. That determination and focus will pay off in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Up next:<\/strong>\u00a0Valley City State is scheduled to compete April 28 at the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead, Minn.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Northern State Twilight Meet \u2013 Aberdeen, S.D.<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p>VCSU freshman\u00a0Kyle Odegard\u00a0recorded the second-farthest javelin throw in school history as he won the meet title and met the NAIA \u201cA\u201d national qualifying standard. Odegard\u2019s mark of 59.73 meters (195 feet, 11 inches) ranks him 7th in the NAIA so far this season.<\/p>\n<p>In VCSU history, Odegard\u2019s throw trails only school record holder Darin Spenst\u2019s top mark of 59.98 meters (196-9) back in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>VCSU went 1-2 in the men\u2019s javelin as\u00a0Garret Roemmich\u00a0placed second with a national qualifying mark of 55.30 meters (181-5). Roemmich\u2019s throw meets the \u201cB\u201d standard for nationals and ranks him 15th in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s javelin, VCSU freshman Peyton Halverson took home a meet title. Halverson recorded a top throw of 36.99 meters (121-4), topping second place by more than a meter.<\/p>\n<p>The VCSU men\u2019s 4\u00d7100 relay team also won their event at the meet. The team of\u00a0Joel DelaCruz,\u00a0Lenzel Koskela,\u00a0Konnor Stueve\u00a0and\u00a0Jacob Furlott\u00a0finished the race in a time of 43.48 seconds, beating teams from Northern State University and MSU-Moorhead.<\/p>\n<p>In women\u2019s discus, Sayge McKrill set a new school record as she tied for second place amongst a competitive field. McKrill\u2019s mark of 41.39 meters (135-9) breaks the previous school record of 41.01 meters (134-8) set by Scheryl Kottsick in 2001. McKrill\u2019s mark highlighted a strong team-wide performance in the women\u2019s discus. That broke her own record of 5.57 meters set last season, and ranks her 8th in the NAIA this season.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson also placed third in the women\u2019s high jump at the competition, clearing 1.55 meters.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side,\u00a0Alex Otto\u00a0cleared 1.93 meters in high jump to place second.\u00a0Ben Novak\u00a0jumped 13.88 meters in the triple jump to place seventh amongst a competitive field.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Blue Hawk Games<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><u><strong>VCSU Women Top 8 Finishes<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Long Jump<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.
