The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol have LIFTED <\/strong>the No Travel Advisory<\/strong> for the northwest \u00a0region of the state including Williston and surrounding areas and US Highway 83 from Minot to Junction of ND Highway 37 near Garrison.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 Over $2,500 were raised for the James River Community\/Senior Center\u2019s Meals on Wheels program on Saturday March 1, 2013 at the Buffalo Mall in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

For $5.00 the public was invited to taste the chili entries and cast their vote for the best chili in Jamestown, along with an award for the Most Votes. 100% of the proceeds benefit the Meals on Wheels Program.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with the chili cook-off, RSVP+ will host a benefit bake sale for the Meals on Wheels Program as well.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s (Mar 11, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Center One\u2019s Rhonda Sahr said the Chili Cook off had 14 booths serving chili, and $1,534.80 was raised.<\/p>\n

Business leaders included local bank presidents, realty companies, service clubs, as well as utility & engineering companies.<\/p>\n

RSVP+ Bake Sale raised $1,011 dollars, also for the Center\u2019s Home Delivered Meals program.<\/p>\n

Chili Cook Off awards went to:<\/p>\n

Interstate Engineering for “The Best Chili.”<\/p>\n

Central Auto Repair and Service won, “Most Dollars Raised,” in the voting jars.<\/p>\n

James River Transit won the “Best Decorated Table,” Award.<\/p>\n

Ms. Sahr points out that, in 2012 Center One provided over 32,000 home delivered meals in Stutsman, Wells, and Sheridan Counties, with over 27,000 meals delivered in Stutsman County.<\/p>\n

The Meals on Wheels Coordinator at Center One, Rick Dockter thanks volunteers who bring out meals in all types of weather, year \u2018round, as about 85-100 meals are delivered daily.<\/p>\n

Volunteers to delivered the meals are always welcome, as there are 8-14 people on each route starting at 11-a.m., Monday through Friday, with six local Jamestown routes.<\/p>\n

Time required for the Jamestown route is about one hour each day.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The community is invited to the 36th<\/sup> Annual, James River Figuring Skating Club\u2019s Ice Show, March 15-17, 2013 at Wilson Arena in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s (Mar 11, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the Ice Show\u2019s Director\/Choreographer, Mark Vasarhelyi said this is his 16th<\/sup> year with the Ice Show.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is “One Hit Wonders,” with music from entertainers who had one hit on the music charts, but, the songs are familiar, and timeless.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the local skaters performed will again this past year in competitions in Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot, Fargo in North Dakota, and St. Cloud, and Duluth, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Some skaters also attend the Basic Skills Camp, during the summer months.<\/p>\n

The Ice Show\u2019s producer is Elizabeth Sherfy, and Vasarhelyi added the show is successful with the help and support and parents, other volunteers and businesses.<\/p>\n

Volunteers also assist in costuming and music.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Planning Commission Monday (Mar 11, 2013) elected Dave Hillerud as Planning Commission Chairman.<\/p>\n

Jane Trautman was elected as the Planning Commission Vice-Chairman.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, SRF Consulting, planner Stepanie Falkers said a public meeting will be held, so residents will have ther opportunity to comment on a future land use plan for Jamestown and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

Comments will be accepted during an open house event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 4, at the Quality Inn & Suites.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — VCSU Professor Joe Stickler, science department chair, will host a comet watch for Comet PANSTARRS at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Rosebud Visitors Center parking lot.<\/p>\n

Beginning March 12 the comet should be visible near the waxing crescent moon; look toward the western horizon after sunset. Binoculars will aid in locating the comet.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sixty-one-year-old Joyce Osterlund is charged with endangerment of a vulnerable adult. She pleaded not guilty Monday in Burleigh County Court.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Osterlund’s son told police his mother was upset because he was playing his guitar too loud.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/strong>Osterlund was charged in January.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Cass County prosecutors have added 14 counts against a Fargo investment broker accused of bilking 18 investors out of more than $900,000.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Robert Medhus (MAY-hoos) was originally charged with two counts of theft of property. The amended complaint filed recently includes 13 counts of securities fraud and one count of selling unregistered securities.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the new charges are the result of an investigation by the North Dakota Securities Department, which accuses Medhus of running a “complex Ponzi-like scheme” for more than 10 years.

\u00a0MANNING, N.D. (AP) – A judge has thrown out a second petition filed by Dunn County residents seeking a grand jury investigation of Gov. Jack Dalrymple for campaign contributions from the oil industry.

\nJudge William Herauf ruled the petition lacked signatures from qualified voters.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Herauf threw out more than 100 signatures from people who listed post office boxes and other questionable addresses such as a crew camp. That left the group about 50 signatures short of the required 205.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The judge also ruled that Dunn County is not the appropriate venue for the allegations, which he said in November when dismissing a similar petition.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The former top lawyer for North Dakota’s University System says he was forced out after clashes with Chancellor Hamid Shirvani over alleged open meetings violations.

\nPat Seaworth says Shirvani repeatedly instructed Board of Higher Education staff to circumvent open meetings laws. Seaworth says he resigned under pressure last November after more than 20 years as a lawyer for the university system.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shirvani has come under fire for his leadership style. The state Senate has approved a measure that would provide money to buy out his contract. The Board of Higher Education has scheduled a special Thursday meeting to discuss allegations about illegal meetings.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A spokeswoman tells The Associated Press that Shirvani and the board “have always strived to operate in full compliance with the law.”

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota wildlife officials reported no cases of chronic wasting disease after testing deer that were killed in the 2012 hunting season.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Chronic wasting is a fatal disease in members of the deer family. The state Game and Fish Department began monitoring it in 2002.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wildlife veterinarians looked into samples taken from more than 1,300 deer in the western third of the state in 2012.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say three mule deer in state history have tested positive, one each in 2009, 2010 and 2011. All three were within 15 miles of each other.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More than 23,000 deer, elk and moose have tested negative for the disease.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota wildlife officials have moved a dozen bighorn sheep away from a well-traveled highway, with the help of a helicopter.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Several sheep in the last few years have been killed by vehicles along Highway 85 in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Traffic on the highway has increased since the start of the oil boom.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Game and Fish Department officials say the helicopter crew captured one ram, seven ewes and four lambs. The sheep were trailered to a release site and set free.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A group that represents North Dakota’s oil industry is opposing a Republican-sponsored House bill that would restructure oil taxes in the state. North Dakota Petroleum Council President Ron Ness says the measure is too complex and costly for companies.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK , N.D. (AP) – North Dakota lawmakers are mulling a proposal that would extend the length of a legislative session by 40 days.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota constitution limits North Dakota legislative sessions to 80 days every two years. The proposal would raise the time limit to 120 days.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo Rep. Scot Kelsh says the resolution has bipartisan support.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kelsh says legislators don’t have enough time during the current 80-day limit to adequately review measures. He says additional time also would allow more time for the public to comment on bills.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota wildlife officials are continuing to cut back on moose and elk licenses.<\/p>\n

State Game and Fish Department officials say 111 moose licenses are available this year, 32 fewer than 2012. The number of elk licenses is being trimmed from 301 to 261.<\/p>\n

Four bighorn sheep licenses will be issued this year, same as a year ago.<\/p>\n

Game and Fish Department officials say the drop in moose tags is due in part to a downward population trend in the northeastern part of the state.<\/p>\n

The cutback in the number of elk licenses continues a reduction program that began in 2010 in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.<\/p>\n

\u00a0North Dakota has auctioned one bighorn license each year since 1986 to raise money for sheep management, and will do so again this year.<\/p>\n
