{"id":149521,"date":"2018-07-19T07:00:06","date_gmt":"2018-07-19T12:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=149521"},"modified":"2018-07-19T09:25:25","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T14:25:25","slug":"pilot-killed-crop-sprayer-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=149521","title":{"rendered":"Pilot ID&#8217;d, crash into river, kills pilot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Update&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"node-body\">\n<p>BISMARCK\u00a0 (Bismarck Tribune) \u00a0 &#8211;A dive team with the Morton County Sheriff&#8217;s Department worked on Wednesday to retrieve a downed plane in the Missouri River, near the Fort Rice Recreation Area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"p402_premium\">\n<div class=\"node-body\">\n<p class=\"\">Recovery efforts were halted Tuesday night as darkness settled in, but restarted at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to Maxine Herr, a public information officer with the sheriff&#8217;s department.<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-sidebar-ad\" data-google-query-id=\"CIS__rmXq9wCFQo7Twodx2MLCA\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">The body of Daniel Matsuo Miller, 35, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was retrieved from the plane Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Miller was a certified commercial pilot, Federal Aviation Administration records show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Miller was flying in the area, taking low-altitude photographs when the single-engine Cessna 152 crashed into the Missouri River, according to a statement issued by the sheriff&#8217;s department. The crash was reported to 911 at 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The plane is registered to Arbach Enterprises Inc., of Watertown, S.D., according to FAA records. Filings with the South Dakota secretary of state indicate it is an aerial photography business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A phone number for the business was disconnected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The sheriff department&#8217;s dive team on Wednesday placed airbags under the plane&#8217;s wings to lift it from an underwater sandbar. The crew then dragged it to the Fort Rice boat ramp, and it was picked up out of the water by a crane and brought to the Mandan Airport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Previously&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>FORT RICE, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A pilot has died in a crop duster crash into the Missouri River in western North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/news\/local\/mandan\/pilot-dies-after-crop-duster-plane-crash-in-morton-county\/article_0b67d441-e40f-55fe-ad4f-d30a1bd59486.html\">The Bismarck Tribune<\/a> reports the plane crashed into the river near Fort Rice on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for the Morton County Sheriff&#8217;s Department says the plane crashed shortly after 3 p.m. less than a mile north of the Fort Rice boat ramp.<\/p>\n<p>The plane was partially submerged in the water.
