BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota\u2019s Health Department has documented the state\u2019s first case of measles in seven years.<\/p>\n
Officials say the case was reported Tuesday, in a Burleigh County resident who the department says likely contracted the disease out of state.<\/p>\n
The person has recovered and is no longer contagious but went to numerous spots in the Bismarck area while contagious. The Health Department is notifying people who were exposed.<\/p>\n
The department says measles is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes, followed by a rash. All children are recommended to be vaccinated.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the first measles case in North Dakota since 2011, when there was a documented case in Cass County.<\/p>\n
