News Mar 24, 2013)\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 A 40-year-old Marion, man died, a passenger in a\u00a0 one vehicle crash that killed the driver, a 43 year old Marion women, about, 12:02 a.m. Saturday (Mar 23, 2013)\u00a0a mile and a half\u00a0 south of Marion, on a gravel road, 56th Street Southwest\u202618 miles south and 15 miles east of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Highway Ptrol Trooper, Sgt. Troy Hischer reports, the\u00a0driver has been identifed as Angela Haakenson, and her passenger, Merl Haakensson.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a02004 Chevy pickup was westbound on the gravel road when the driver, Angela, \u00a0lost control and the vehicle entered the south ditch.<\/p>\n<p>Merl\u00a0was partially ejected through the side window of the pickup\u00a0and died of his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Angela was injured and transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Neither occupant\u00a0was using safety restraints.<\/p>\n<p>Angela\u00a0was cited for DUI.<\/p>\n<p>The LaMoure County Sheriff\u2019s Office, assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; I-94 between Valley City and Jamestown is slippery in spots in the north lanes due to snow drifting across and sticking to the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Stutsman County Sheriff Department was at an accident in the eastbound lane of I94 after 5pm Sunday March 24, 2013, just east of mile marker 266, six miles east of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>A pickup truck was on its top in the passing lane of eastbound I94 and another vehicle was in the median.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement and ambulance personnel were on the scene.<\/p>\n<p>No other information was immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown will present &#8220;The Passion Play,&#8221; written by Debbie Kercher, with performances March 28-March 31,2013, at 7-p.m., nightly, with the church located at 1200 12<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, Northeast, near Jamestown High School.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Randy Jaspers says, the play has 8 different scenes\u2026 13 songs\u2026 and over 70 cast members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Passion Play,&#8221; is a musical drama depicting the last week of Jesus&#8217; life.<\/p>\n<p>There is no charge for the performance and no reserved seating.<\/p>\n<p>This is the 7th time the church has offered the play, the first in its new facility.<\/p>\n<p>He invites the community to &#8220;See, feel and hear the good news of God&#8217;s greatest gift. Bring a friend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The play was written by Debbie Kercher in the summer of 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The first time the play was offered was in 2001 at TBC&#8217;s former home on 4th Avenue NW.<\/p>\n<p>The response was overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>Since that initial performance the church has offered the play three times at the Reiland Fine Arts Center and twice at the Jamestown High School Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>The play is a mix of drama and contemporary Christian music. Most of the dialogue comes directly from the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years the play has remained much the same, with some adjustments in music and enhanced scenery.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest change is in the personnel, most of whom call TBC their home.<\/p>\n<p>The last time TBC offered the Passion Play was in 2009, prior to the construction of its present facility in NE Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota-based Farm Rescue organization is getting a grant of nearly $348,000 from a charitable trust established by the late hotel and real estate baroness Leona Helmsley.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The nonprofit Farm Rescue provides planting and harvesting help free of charge to farm families in five states who have experienced a major illness, injury or disaster. Officials say the grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust will be used for equipment purchases and general operations.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Farm Rescue founder and President Bill Gross says it&#8217;s the largest grant the nonprofit has received since it began operations in 2006.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Farm Rescue has helped more than 200 farm families in the Dakotas, Montana, Minnesota and Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police arrested a Grand Forks man after he allegedly fired a shotgun during an early-morning fight.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say there were no apparent injuries in the incident, which happened about 4 a.m. Saturday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 25-year-old suspect faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, obstruction, fleeing police and discharging a firearm in city limits.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the suspect and others fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Authorities were able to track down the suspect&#8217;s vehicle with help from U.S. Border Patrol agents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Devils Lake police say they arrested a man for shoplifting twice on the same day and in the same store.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after he shoplifted several cans of energy drink and some beef jerky from a grocery store. The man was later released on bail, and police say he returned to the store that afternoon and stole another energy drink.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 man faces several misdemeanor charges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Some pastors in a northwestern North Dakota city are asking that guns be allowed in churches.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 group plans to submit a petition this week to Williston city commissioners that would give churches the option of allowing concealed weapons.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Rev. Will Page, associate professor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, says he&#8217;s worried that people with evil intentions may target churches because they know members of the congregation are not armed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The group says the petition is motivated by mass shootings elsewhere and not the state&#8217;s oil boom.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Legislature is considering allowing guns in churches and other places.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sen. Jack Dalrymple says residents in the Fargo area won&#8217;t have to worry about getting enough money from the state to help with an expected spring flood.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple on Monday met with federal, state and local officials to outline plans to tackle high water from the Red River and its tributaries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The governor says Fargo has &#8220;the best flood-fighting team in the United States.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The National Weather Service says the river has a 50-50 chance of reaching 38 feet in Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn., which would be 20 feet above flood stage.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It would be the fourth major flood in five years for Fargo-Moorhead residents.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo officials plan to open an emergency operations center on April 2. (AP) &#8211; The Capitol will be abuzz this week with anticipation over what Gov. Jack Dalrymple will do with a package of anti-abortion measures approved by both chambers that would make North Dakota the most restrictive state in the U.S. to get the procedure.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House members voted on four abortion measures Friday, rejecting one that would define in state law that life begins at conception. Representatives approved a resolution that would let voters put the definition into the state constitution.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Other passed bills would ban abortions after 20 weeks based on the disputed premise that fetuses feel pain at that point; require abortion doctors to be physicians with hospital-admitting privileges; ban abortions as early as six weeks, or when a fetal heartbeat is detected, and ban abortions because of genetic defects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Abortion-rights activists plan rallies in North Dakota&#8217;s biggest cities on Monday to protest a package of measures that would give the state the toughest abortion restrictions in the nation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The newly formed Stand Up For Women North Dakota plans rallies in Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and at the state Capitol in Bismarck.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Organizer Robin Nelson of Fargo says several hundred people are expected at the rallies. So what\u2019s one more trophy?<\/p>\n<p>Larson, the new North Dakota Miss Basketball, has been on four championship teams in the past 12 months: two Class A basketball squads, a volleyball team and a track team.<\/p>\n<p>She is the first girl from Century to win the Miss Basketball award, which is presented annually to the top senior player in the state by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot forward was the runaway winner, receiving 11 first-place votes and 70 points in the voting. She averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks while leading Century to its second straight state championship.<\/p>\n<p>For the Miss Basketball award, she beat out four other finalists: Kira Larson, Ashley Bentz, Taylor Henningsgard and Kyra Dewald.<\/p>\n<p>Dewald, a 5-5 guard for Jamestown, had two first-place votes and 19 points.
