Jamestown 2 Midland 1 OT<\/p>\n

FREMONT, Neb.\u00a0 (uj.edu) <\/strong>— With one tick left\u00a0on the clock in the first overtime period, Aaron Pike<\/a> (FR\/Milton Keynes, England) took advantage of sloppy play in the box, putting home the game-winning goal to send the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Midland (Neb.) University Saturday night.<\/p>\n

A free kick by the Jimmies made its way into the the 18-yard box and bounced in the air multiple times, as UJ was unable to get direct control of the ball and Midland (5-5-0, 3-1-0 GPAC)\u00a0was unable to make a clearance. Pike took advantage of the chaos and got a foot on the ball, putting it past the Warrior goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

Midland got the game’s first goal in the 51st minute as Robert Wiseman found the back of the net with a left-footed shot that beat UJ goalkeeper Jake Askew<\/a> (JR\/Rotherham, England) for a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

In the 80th minute, Eric Fairtlough<\/a> (SO\/Varese, Italy) drew the Jimmies level with a shot deflected off of the goalie and put in on the rebound.<\/p>\n

The Jimmie defense conceded just one shot on goal out of the eight attempts Midland made in the game. UJ had five of their nine shots on goal. Corner kicks were 6-4 in favor of Jamestown, while the Warriors had three more fouls (14-11) and yellow cards (4-1) than the Jimmies.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, now 3-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the GPAC, plays at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
