Precipitation today starts out as mainly rain across western North Dakota continuing this afternoon, mixing with wet snow in the evening as temperatures cool, and precipitation pushes south and east through central North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Storm total snowfall amounts between 2 to 5 inches for most of western and central North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Rain and snow will slowly begin moving out of western and central<\/p>\n

North Dakota on Saturday, before another round of rain and<\/p>\n

snow begins moving in Sunday evening, switchovering to all snow Sunday night, before switching back to a mix of rain and snow Monday afternoon<\/p>\n

Significant snowfall accumulations are not expected with that round of<\/p>\n

precipitation.<\/p>\n

Valley City (WDAY)<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 A candidate for Barnes County State\u2019s Attorney said she\u2019s shocked and angry after opening a package mailed to her home that was filled with feces.<\/p>\n

Lilie Schoenack tracked the package, an found it came through\u00a0a legitimate website, that allows\u00a0individuals to send\u00a0 feces filled packages to people. The site makes senders promise it\u2019s just a \u201cgag gift\u201d and not being used to harass or threaten anyone.<\/p>\n

But with the election just five days away, this candidate isn\u2019t laughing, she said she felt both harassed and threatened.<\/p>\n

Schoenack tells WDAY, \u201cThere\u2019s no reason whatsoever to believe it\u2019s anything but that, so it\u2019s just troubling to me that people are capable of this.\u00a0 It\u2019s just sort of a metaphor or symbol of the way this whole election has gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019ll consider pursuing legal action with a U.S. state attorney.<\/p>\n

Schoenack is being opposed in the State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s race by Tonya Duffy.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 With eligible Stutsman County voters casting Early Voting ballots, 2247 ballots were cast just before 3-p.m. Thursday.<\/p>\n

That compares to the total for early voting in the November 2016 General Election at 2,395. That\u2019s 12 percent of 19,963 residents eligible to vote in Stutsman County.<\/p>\n

Friday is the final day for Early Voting at the Stutsman County Courthouse, from 8-a.m., to 5-p.m.<\/p>\n

Absentee ballots are accepted though Monday November 5, with a postmark of November 5 or earlier.<\/p>\n

Absentee ballots received after November 5th<\/sup> will be counted, with the proper postmark.<\/p>\n

On election day, November 6th vote in person at the Jamestown Civic Center, from 7-a.m. to 7-p.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is excited to be holding their eighth food packing event for Kids Against Hunger and look forward to the opportunity to feed starving families across the region. Since the Kiwanis Club started the project they have packed over 1.1 million meals for those in need.<\/p>\n

Once again, they are partnering with the Great Plains Food Bank to distribute the meals to those in need across North Dakota and parts of Western Minnesota.\u00a0 In 2017 Great Plains Food Bank used up their donation of 100,000 meals within six months.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Kiwanis Club board member, Tim Perkins says, \u201cFood stamps only go so far.\u00a0 We do this for the kids. Every year, when we talk about hungry children, Kiwanis says \u2018we won\u2019t stand for that.\u2019 And every year, the community supports us. Jamestown is a kind and generous community.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a recent, Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Kiwanis Club member Michelle Watne said, the next packing event is Saturday, November 3, from 9-a.m., to 12-noon, at Stutsman Harley Davidson in Jamestown<\/strong>, with the goal to pack another 80,000 meals.\u00a0 Each meal costs only 25\u00a2, so gifts small or large make a big difference.<\/p>\n

The meals of soy, rice, dehydrate vegetables, containing 21 essential vitamins are distributed throughout North Dakota and Minnesota through the Great Plains Food Bank.<\/p>\n

Families need only to add boiling water to make the meal.<\/p>\n

Those unable to donate funds for the food, may consider donating their time. Approximately 300 volunteers will be needed to help package the meals.<\/p>\n

Rod Fernow\u00a0 organized the event, and he says the it will\u00a0 have educational seminars, sheep and goat workshops, nutritional and organic crop advice.<\/p>\n

Wishek, ND\u00a0 (Bismarck Tribune<\/a>)\u00a0 (AP) The McIntosh Sheriff\u2019s Department\u00a0reports\u00a0 a 66 year old man\u2019s body\u00a0was\u00a0recovered in a chemical pond in Wishek.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Laurie Spitzer\u00a0reports the body was found around 1-p.m. at the Jahner Landfill.<\/p>\n

Called to the scene to assist was the Stutsman County Dive and Rescue Team\u00a0assisting in the recovery of\u00a0his body.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Spitzer says it appears\u00a0the drowning was\u00a0accidental and\u00a0no foul play is\u00a0suspect foul is suspected.<\/p>\n

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the man was\u00a0 chemical testing when he fell in and drowned. He was alone at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s name and residence were not immediately released.<\/p>\n

ALEXANDER, N.D. (AP) \u2014 McKenzie County sheriff’s officials say officers shot and wounded a man in Alexander. The sheriff’s department responded to a domestic disturbance involving an armed man Wednesday night. Authorities didn’t say what prompted officers to fire their weapons. The man is in stable condition. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to review the shooting.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Fargo woman is charged with child neglect after authorities say she left her baby alone in a hot SUV while she shopped.<\/p>\n

Court documents accuse Clara Nissko of leaving the child for 20 minutes in 84-degree weather in September while she was in Walmart in Fargo.<\/p>\n

KXMB-TV<\/a> reports police were called after several people heard the baby crying and found the infant strapped in a car seat. Witnesses say one window of the vehicle was partially opened.<\/p>\n

Passers-by took the baby out of the vehicle while they waiting for police to arrive. It’s not clear whether Nissko has hired an attorney.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Former Vice President Joe Biden kicked off Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s final statewide campaign tour Thursday in a whisper instead of his usual fiery tone, making a quiet call for civility that was accentuated by laryngitis.<\/p>\n

Biden’s first order of business in front of a few hundred people at the Fargo Air Museum was to apologize for his hushed delivery. He then proceeded to outline countrywide problems that he said have been worsened by the “lack of dignity in the national dialogue.”<\/p>\n

Biden said, Heitkamp has remarkable courage and fierce independence and is needed in Washington to help foster bipartisanship<\/p>\n

Heitkamp and a number of democratic candidates stopped by the Jamestown Civic Center Thursday evening.\u00a0 Joining the speakers was former Senator, Kent Conrad, and former Congressman Earl Pomeroy.<\/p>\n

Heitkamp, who is seen as trailing in her re-election campaign against Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer, plans more than 20 stops in towns across North Dakota. The five-day trip is being billed as the “Bring it Home Heidi” tour.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A federal judge on Thursday denied a request from an American Indian tribe in North Dakota to block the state’s voter ID law just days before the election.<\/p>\n

North Dakota’s law requires voters to show ID with a residential street address, which American Indians have argued<\/a> is not always evident on reservations.<\/p>\n

The Spirit Lake Sioux tribe sued the state Tuesday seeking a temporary restraining order, saying the street address requirement is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland wrote that the allegations gave him “great cause for concern” but that he was denying the motion because it would cause confusion so close to the election.<\/p>\n

“The federal courts are unanimous in their judgment that it is highly important to preserve the status quo when elections are fast approaching,” Hovland wrote.<\/p>\n

The state maintains everyone has a street address via the statewide 911 system, but the lawsuit filed by the Native American Rights Fund, the Campaign Legal Center and two law firms argues the system is “incomplete, contradictory and prone to error on reservations.”<\/p>\n

SIOUX CITY, Iowa\u00a0 (uj.edu) \u2014 Two first-half goals by Morningside (Iowa) College were too much for the University of Jamestown men\u2019s soccer team to overcome as the Jimmies lost 2-0 Thursday evening in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u2019s season ends with an overall record of 7-8-2. Morningside, now 12-5-1 overall, advance to the semifinals and will face Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Tuesday, November 6.<\/p>\n

Austin Lingle\u2019s free kick in the 15th minute put the Mustangs ahead 1-0. Moritz Lusch made it 2-0 in the 26th minute on a nifty give-and-go play with Murat Turin.<\/p>\n

Down two goals with just under twenty minutes in the half, the Jimmies turned up the offensive pressure. UJ had five shots in the next six minutes, but only one on goal. Two shots went wide while the other two were blocked by Morningside defenders.<\/p>\n

In the 56th minute, Ruben Zepeda<\/a> (SO\/Puebla, Mexico) had a chance to go for goal, but his shot was saved by Tim Erdmann. Alex Castillo<\/a> (SO\/Mesa, Ariz.) had a chance to get UJ on the board in the 87th, but his header hit the post. Over the final three-and-a-half minutes, the Jimmies tallied four more shots but could not find a goal.<\/p>\n

Shots ended 23-20 in favor of Jamestown while shots on goal were 9-8, Morningside.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Nick Mullens was named the San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback a few hours before Thursday’s game against Oakland. The undrafted free agent delivered with the most productive debut for an NFL quarterback since the 1970 merger.Mullens completed 16 of his 22 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns and a 151.9 passer rating as the Niners blasted the Raiders, 34-3. UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Denver Nuggets continue to roll through the early portion of their schedule as they try to make the NBA playoffs for the first time in six years.<\/p>\n

The Nuggets are 7-1 and owners of a three-game winning streak following a 110-91 rout of the Cavaliers in Cleveland. Juancho Hernangomez scored 23 points, one day after Denver picked up the option on his rookie contract. Paul Millsap added 16 points in light duty, one night after his put-back with 0.1 seconds left gave the Nuggets a one-point victory at Chicago.<\/p>\n

Jordan Clarkson had a team-high 17 points for the Cavaliers, who are 1-7 overall and 1-1 under acting coach Larry Drew.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Bucks suffered their first loss as Kyrie Irving drained six of the Celtics’ team-record 24 3-pointers while scoring 28 points in a 117-113 victory against Milwaukee. JR Smith wants trade<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Unhappy with his new role, J.R. Smith says he hopes the Cleveland Cavaliers trade him.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old guard didn’t play in Tuesday night’s win over Atlanta, the Cavs’ first game since coach Tyronn Lue was fired. The Cavs are rebuilding with a young roster, and Smith is one of just three players left from Cleveland’s 2016 title team.<\/p>\n

Smith has had a rocky relationship with Cleveland fans. Some love his care-free spirit while others still blame him for losing track of the score in the closing seconds of Game 1 in last year’s NBA Finals.<\/p>\n

In other NBA news:<\/p>\n

\u2014 Dwight Howard is scheduled to make his Wizards debut Friday at home against the Thunder. Howard missed all of training camp, the preseason and the first seven games of the regular season because of a sore backside. Power forward Markieff Morris is also expected to play against the Thunder after coming out of the concussion protocol.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Grizzlies have waived Andrew Harrison after playing the guard only once this season. The 6-foot-6 Harrison started 64 of 129 games since being drafted out of Kentucky in the 2016 draft, averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 21.7 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Commissioner Adam Silver has announced that the Cavaliers have been awarded the 2022 NBA All-Star Game. Cleveland last hosted the game in 1997.<\/p>\n

McKenzie Milton threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns as ninth-ranked UCF outscored Temple, 52-40. Milton finished 17 of 33 with one interception after missing UCF’s previous game with an undisclosed injury.<\/p>\n

Taj McGowan scored on runs of 1 and 10 yards, the latter giving the 8-0 Knights a nine-point lead after the Owls nearly rallied to tie it.<\/p>\n

Sooners RB leaving early for NFL draft<\/p>\n

NORMAN, Okla (AP) \u2014 Injured Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson has announced on social media that he will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft.<\/p>\n

Anderson suffered a season-ending knee injury in the second game of this season against UCLA. He didn’t start until the middle of last season, but he eventually ran for 1,161 yards and 13 touchdowns and caught five touchdown passes to help the Sooners reach the College Football Playoff.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Alex Ovechkin scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season tonight, but it wasn’t enough offense for the defending Stanley Cup champions.<\/p>\n

Max Domi (DOH’-mee) scored the tiebreaking goal with just 22 seconds left in regulation as the Canadiens downed the Washington Capitals, 6-4 in Montreal. Jesperi Kotkaniemi (jehs-PEHR’-ee kaht-kah-NEH-mee) and Brendan Gallagher each scored twice for the Habs, who trailed 4-3 entering the final period. Cubs’ Heyward, Giants’ Melancon keep contracts<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 Jason Heyward and Mark Melancon (meh-LAN’-suhn) know a good deal when they see one. The Cubs outfielder and the Giants reliever have let the deadline pass for exercising opt-out provisions in their contracts.<\/p>\n

Heyward has five years and $106 million left in his eight-year deal after hitting .270 with eight home runs and 58 RBIs in 127 games for the Cubs this year. He’s been a disappointment since landing the contract, hitting .252 with 26 home runs and 165 RBIs in 395 games.<\/p>\n

Melancon is owed $28 over the next two seasons. Originally signed to be the Giants’ closer, the three-time All-Star lost that role in 2017 and was 1-4 with three saves and a 3.23 ERA in 41 appearances last season.<\/p>\n

Boston’s Rusney Castillo and Arizona’s Yasmany Tomas also allowed their opt-out deadline to pass after the two Cubans spent all of this year in the minors.<\/p>\n

The school says the violation occurred last season, when the 6-foot-7 redshirt freshman sat out after transferring from St. John’s and was denied a waiver from the NCAA.<\/p>\n

The move comes after Wilson and senior guard Jalen Adams were held out of a scrimmage on Sunday for a separate violation involving team rules.<\/p>\n

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) \u2014 A former University of New Mexico kicker who was the first female to play and score in a Division I football game faces months of recovery after becoming seriously ill from an adverse reaction to a prescribed medicine.<\/p>\n

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the family of Katie Hnida (NY’-dah) says the 37-year-old’s condition has stabilized but that she might need a liver transplant.<\/p>\n

Hnida played for New Mexico from 2002-04. She played her first game in 2002 and scored her first points the following season.<\/p>\n

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) \u2014 Longtime Sports Illustrated NFL writer Paul Zimmerman has died at 86.<\/p>\n

NBC Sports football writer Peter King confirmed the death of Zimmerman, who was known as “Dr. Z” for his analytical approach to writing football.<\/p>\n

He covered the Jets for the New York Post for 13 years and also wrote for the Sacramento Bee, New York Journal-American and the New York World-Telegram & Sun before joining SI in 1979.<\/p>\n

Zimmerman had three strokes in 2008 that ended his writing career after 29 years as Sports Illustrated’s lead pro football writer.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n
