(AP) \u2014 Augustana University in South Dakota will pursue a move to NCAA Division I athletics.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s one of a number of initiatives in a <a href=\"https:\/\/goaugie.com\/news\/2018\/12\/13\/general-augustana-university-announces-strategic-vision-focused-on-academic-excellence-and-growth.aspx\">strategic vision<\/a> for the next dozen years that was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees for the Sioux Falls school. Other goals deal with academics and research.<\/p>\n<p>The school currently competes in Division II athletics, as part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The commission issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernsun.org\/news\/2018\/12\/13\/general-augustana-university-announces-a-goal-of-transitioning-to-division-i.aspx\">statement<\/a> saying Augustana hopes to secure an invitation to a Division I conference by the 2021-22 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Augustana last explored a possible reclassification about 12 years ago, after South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University moved to D-I athletics.
