(AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the driver who died in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks in McKenzie County.Thirty-year-old Bryan Ray Walker, of Alexander, was killed and the driver of the other pickup was injured in the crash on a road west of Mandaree Thursday morning.The patrol says the driver who survived was rounding a curve, slid on an icy patch and into the opposite lane where the two vehicles collided. A passenger in the truck of the surviving driver was not injured.<\/article>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<article id=\"story_content\" class=\"ng-binding\">WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) \u2014 No one was hurt in an explosion at an oil field saltwater disposal site near Watford City.McKenzie County Emergency Manager Karolin Jappe says one man was at the site at the time of Thursday&#8217;s explosion, but he was not injured.<a href=\"https:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/business\/local\/explosion-reported-at-watford-city-salt-water-disposal-site\/article_6d93199f-3174-55a4-8b9b-2cf87f970db9.html\">The Bismarck Tribune<\/a> reports the explosion happened at a White Owl Energy Services site.Authorities don&#8217;t know what caused the explosion and fire. Jappe says fires at salt water disposal sites usually happen in the summer, when lightning hits.Jappe says the fire will be allowed to burn out. When no other structures or people are in danger, she says putting out the fire can cause salt water to contaminate the ground, leading to an expensive cleanup.The incident has been reported to the North Dakota Department of Health.<\/article>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<article id=\"story_content\" class=\"ng-binding\">FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Fargo police have issued a warning about a nationwide theft ring that has moved into the city.Authorities say the criminals in the so-called Felony Lane Gang break into unattended vehicles in parking lots and take purses containing cash, credit cards, checkbooks and IDs.In Fargo, the suspects have targeted fitness centers, daycares, movie theaters, sporting events, cemeteries and parks. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota&#8217;s House has voted to repeal North Dakota&#8217;s longstanding Sunday business restrictions. The measure passed 56-35 on Thursday. The Republican-led Legislature has defeated several measures over the years to end the Sunday morning shopping prohibition, most recently in 2017 when it was narrowly defeated in the Senate. (AP) \u2014 A monthly survey of rural bankers in parts of 10 Plains and Western states suggests banks are growing increasingly concerned about farm loan defaults in 2019.More than 4 of every 10 bankers questioned for the Rural Mainstreet survey for January said they expect farm loan defaults to be the year&#8217;s biggest challenge.Creighton University economist Ernie Goss, who oversees the survey, says their outlook is being negatively influenced by tariffs, trade tensions, weak commodity prices and the partial federal government shutdown.The survey&#8217;s overall index dropped to 51.5 from December&#8217;s 54.2. (AP) \u2014 About 150 North Dakotans who were former students at the for-profit education company Career Education Corp. will receive student loan debt relief totaling more than $340,000.Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the debt relief is one of the conditions of a national settlement that CEC entered into earlier this month with North Dakota and 48 other states.CEC has agreed to change its recruiting and enrollment practices and forgo collecting nearly $494 million in debts owed by almost 180,000 students across the country. CEC will also pay $5 million to the states. North Dakota&#8217;s share will be $40,000.CEC was investigated after the attorneys general received complaints from students and after the U.S. Senate&#8217;s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee issued a critical report on for-profit education.\u00a0<\/article>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A new study indicates it might be economically feasible for North Dakota oil companies to provisionally store natural gas underground instead of burning it off at well sites.<\/p>\n<p>The University of North Dakota&#8217;s Energy and Environmental Research Center study found that inserting natural gas into an underground rock formation and extracting it later could allow companies to produce more oil and meet the state&#8217;s gas capture goals, the <a href=\"https:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/bakken\/study-finds-storing-natural-gas-underground-feasible\/article_929ff797-7e88-5d55-9d68-9b3cd42c8992.html\">Bismarck Tribune reported<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The North Dakota Industrial Commission approved $140,000 for the study as it searches for solutions to reduce natural gas flaring while companies catch up on building natural gas processing plants, pipelines and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>John Harju, vice president for strategic partnerships at the EERC, said the best option will always be to capture the natural gas and transport it by pipeline to a processing plant.<\/p>\n<p>But when that&#8217;s not an option due to inadequate infrastructure, research showed temporarily storing the gas is one way companies could continue increasing oil production without increasing flaring.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s another tool for the toolbox,&#8221; Harju said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<article id=\"story_content\" class=\"ng-binding\">BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Funeral services have been scheduled for a North Dakota attorney known for his work on American Indian issues.Tom Disselhorst was killed in a vehicle crash near Richardton on Dec. 30. His funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday in the James Henry Gymnasium at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck.Disselhorst was staff attorney for nearly four decades for the college run by North Dakota tribes. He also taught hundreds of students through the years.Disselhorst also provided legal counsel for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and the Three Affiliated Tribes. He worked on numerous issues including construction of the Four Bears Bridge over the Missouri River at New Town, passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in 1988 and on tribal-state gambling compacts in North Dakota.\u00a0<\/article>\n<article><\/article>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (UJ)\u00a0 \u00a0A three-day, statewide event celebrating hockey at the University of Jamestown\u00a0 January 18, 19, 20.\u00a0 \u201cHockey Day North Dakota\u201d brings the sport back to its roots with an outdoor rink, and events on the rink and surrounding it. Teams of all ages, from all over the state, come together to compete and celebrate hockey.<\/p>\n<p>UJ Head Hockey Coach, Cole Bell says, \u201cOur main goal of this community event is to bring people and the state together in celebration of our great sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event is hosted by Pure Hockey Skills and the University of Jamestown.
