News) \u2014 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to a house fire about 10-p.m. Tuesday (Jul 31, 2012), in Northwest Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Lt.\u00a0Sheldon Mohr says the fire at 301 4th Avenue Northwest caused extensive damage to the second floor interior of the home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No dollar estimate was available.<\/p>\n<p>No other structures were involved.\u00a0No injuries were reported, as all occupants escaped the house.<\/p>\n<p>Seven units of the city fire department were on the scene for almost two hours, and included 30 fire fighters.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire is \u00a0under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter, \u00a0and Jamestown Salvation Army, gave assistance to the family, along with\u00a0\u00a0temporary lodging.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; The Jamestown City Council will hold a public input meeting on Tuesday August 21, 2012, at 4:00 PM, at the Building, Planning and Zoning Committee meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Input will be gathered concerning Section 8 of Appendix B of the Jamestown City Code relative to subdivision development improvements and suggested changes.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public an opportunity to comment and provide assistance to the City Council in determining future ordinance changes\/policies.<\/p>\n<p>Copies of Section 8&#8211;Appendix B are available at Jamestown City Hall, or can be viewed on the City website\u00a0 www. <em>jamestownnd.org<\/em>\u00a0 under the government tab\/municipal code, click on Appendix B \u2013 Subdivisions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A judge will decide whether a North<br \/>\nDakota man convicted of shooting and beheading a North Dakota State<br \/>\nUniversity researcher should serve life in prison without parole.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A jury in April found Daniel Wacht guilty of murder in the death<br \/>\nof 54-year-old Kurt Johnson. Prosecutors say Wacht killed Johnson<br \/>\nto prove his worth to a white supremacist group.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Johnson was last seen alive outside a Cooperstown bar on New<br \/>\nYear&#8217;s Eve 2010. His severed head was found in a crawl space in<br \/>\nWacht&#8217;s basement. His body has not been found.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors said during trial there were &#8220;layers of evidence&#8221;<br \/>\nto convict Wacht. Defense attorney Steven Mottinger argued that<br \/>\nthere was no way to prove Wacht pulled the trigger.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sentencing is scheduled today in Cooperstown at 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Minot man with convictions for<br \/>\nterrorizing, aggravated assault and burglary has been sentenced to<br \/>\n15 years in federal prison on a weapons charge.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say officers with the Ward County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nfound 30-year-old Arthur Smith asleep in a vehicle parked on U.S.<br \/>\nHighway 2 just east of Minot last December, and that Smith had a<br \/>\nhandgun in the front seat. He pleaded guilty in April to being a<br \/>\nfelon in possession of a firearm.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Smith will be on supervised<br \/>\nrelease for two years following his prison term.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The man charged with shooting and killing<br \/>\na Bismarck police officer has been sentenced to life in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0Judge David Reich sentenced Steven Bannister to life in prison without<br \/>\nthe possibility of parole Tuesday afternoon for the July 2011 death<br \/>\nof Bismarck Police Sgt. Steve Kenner.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bannister entered an Alford plea last month in the case. An<br \/>\nAlford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges<br \/>\nthere is enough evidence to convict him.<\/p>\n<p>The plea is treated as a conviction for sentencing purposes.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Bannister shot and killed Kenner when the<br \/>\nofficer responded to a domestic disturbance call.<\/p>\n<p>Kenner was the first Bismarck police officer killed in the line of duty.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MEDORA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Crews have contained a wildfire in the<br \/>\nwestern North Dakota Badlands.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Babete (ba-BEHT&#8217;) Anderson says<br \/>\nthe Plumely Draw Fire was contained Tuesday. The blaze in rugged<br \/>\nterrain south of Medora started over the weekend, likely sparked by<br \/>\nlightning.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The fire blackened about 65 acres, or less than a square mile.<br \/>\nIt did not damage any structures or hurt any people.
