Myhre as alternate municipal court judge effective immediately.<\/p>\n The meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 67 followed by replays.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Fire Department responded to a house fire Sunday night at 10:52 p.m., at 617 Third Avenue, Northwest.<\/p>\n Lt. Sheldon Mohr says the blaze extensively damage the home, and no other structures were involved.<\/p>\n No injuries reported.<\/p>\n He says the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.<\/p>\n The Red Cross is assisting the occupant with living and other arrangements.<\/p>\n 22 City Fire Fighters were on the scene, three hours.<\/p>\n The cause is under investigation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The newly installed traffic control signals on Highway 281 South at the intersection of I-94 became operational this past weekend.<\/p>\n On Monday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Mayor Dwaine Heinrich reminded residents that the cost was entirely paid by the State Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n The signals are part of the updates to the roadway that occurred last summer.<\/p>\n On another topic Mayor Heinrich added that the Prairie Dog Bill in the state legislature moves from the House committee to the full house for consideration, and then after crossover to the state senate for consideration.<\/p>\n The Bill would clear the way for counties and townships in North Dakota to come in for a significant amount of dollars, in two years, for infrastructure projects, expected to be distributed each year for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Parks and Rec Department reminds the community that now through February 10 is Cabin Fever Days in Jamestown.<\/p>\n There will be\u00a0 co-ed softball games, have warming houses for skating and cross country skiing as well as have public skating at Wilson Arena.<\/p>\n There are pinochle and basketball tournaments are set.<\/p>\n Sleigh rides available at the Bunker.<\/p>\n The coed softball tournament is Saturday, February 9, at McElroy Park weather permitting. (AP) \u2014 Two veteran astronauts headed for the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame are high fliers who came a long way from their small-town roots.<\/p>\n James Buchli was born in New Rockford, North Dakota and raised in Fargo. He was a member of four space flights and has orbited Earth 319 times. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and the NASA Astronaut Office in 1992.<\/p>\n Buchli is also a retired United States Marine aviator, logging over 4,200 hours flying time including 4,000 hours in jet aircraft and combat in the F-4 Phantom II. He\u2019s been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with silver star.<\/p>\n Janet Kavandi is a native of Carthage, Missouri, and a veteran of three space flights. She logged more than 33 days in space and orbited the earth 535 times. She served in various leadership capacities with NASA and is currently director of NASA\u2019s John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.<\/p>\n Both Buchli and Kavandi will be inducted April 6 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A bipartisan House bill that would allow authorities to temporarily seize guns from a person who may pose a risk to themselves or others would likely save lives in North Dakota but has no hope in the Republican-led Legislature, a powerful GOP co-sponsor said Monday.<\/p>\n “It will die in the House,” Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner told The Associated Press.<\/p>\n Wardner, who has signed on the bill sponsored by Democratic Rep. Karla Rose Hanson, said he has been “cursed at and called names” by constituents for supporting the measure in the firearm-friendly state.<\/p>\n The House Judiciary Committee completed its two-day hearing Monday on the bipartisan “red flag” measure, which would allow a judge to order guns temporarily seized if police or family members believe a person is a danger to themselves or others.<\/p>\n A court hearing must be held within 14 days to determine whether to return the guns, or confiscate them for a year or longer. Opponents argue the bill is a violation of due process; supporters say it will save lives.<\/p>\n Janelle Moos, executive director of North Dakota’s Council on Abused Women’s Services, told the committee that people killed in domestic violence incidents are more likely to be killed with a firearm, than those killed in non-domestic violence crimes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A company facing opposition from environmentalists and landowners as it works to build an $800 million oil refinery near Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota has cleared another hurdle by obtaining a state water permit, though the matter could still end up in state court.<\/p>\n State Engineer Garland Erbele on Thursday followed the recent recommendation of an administrative law judge<\/a> and issued a permit to Meridian Energy Group allowing the company to draw water from an underwater aquifer for the Davis Refinery, State Water Commission spokeswoman Jessie Wald said Monday.<\/p>\n The agency was prepared to issue the permit last summer but three landowners challenged it, citing concerns over how they might be affected and how much of the water would be wasted. Landowner attorney JJ England also argued that Meridian’s plans for treating and using the water were vague and at times conflicting.<\/p>\n Administrative Law Judge Tim Dawson held a hearing in November<\/a> and issued his recommendation Jan. 8, concluding “there is no realistic harm to the public interest” should the permit be issued.<\/p>\n
