Valley City (VCSU) \u2013 It was good to be back home Tuesday night for the Valley City State men’s basketball team.<\/p>\n
Playing the first of five straight home games to close out the season, Valley City State\u00a0snapped a five-game losing streak Tuesday as the Vikings\u00a0rolled to a 102-64 victory over Trinity Bible College. VCSU opened up a 44-33 halftime lead in the non-conference game\u00a0and then put the game out of reach in the second half en route to a\u00a038-point victory.<\/p>\n
Valley City State improves to 6-17 overall this season. Trinity Bible College drops to 4-17.<\/p>\n
All 10 Vikings who played Tuesday night scored at least four points in the big win, including 22 points from freshman Hunter Sand<\/a>.<\/p>\n Sand knocked down three first-half 3-pointers as he finished with a career-high 22 points after shooting 4-for-4 on 3’s and 9-for-11 overall. Michael Cornelious<\/a> scored 16 points, while Jake Skelly<\/a> made 3-pointers and finished with 12 points and five assists.<\/p>\n Hunter McCalla<\/a> hit three triples and finished with 10 points, and Connor Entzi<\/a> added 10 points and five rebounds. Denzel Kennedy<\/a> pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and scored eight points. Logan Nelson<\/a> and Austin Lee<\/a> each scored eight, and Lee added four assists. Logan Miller<\/a> and Matt Rudolph<\/a> chipped in four points apiece.<\/p>\n Valley City (VCSU)\u00a0 Valley City State shot 53 percent overall (38-72), 48 percent on 3’s (13-27) and 72 percent at the line (13-18). The Vikings held a major rebounding advantage, 48-28, which also included a 12-3 edge in offensive rebounds. Valley City State dished 16 assists and committed just nine turnovers.<\/p>\n Trinity Bible shot 37 percent overall (23-63), 31 percent on 3’s (8-26) and 77 percent at the line (10-13). Jamal Williams scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Lions. Leroy Slaton added 18 points and nine rebounds.<\/p>\n Up next:<\/strong> Valley City State resumes conference play this weekend, hosting Viterbo University on Friday and Waldorf University on Saturday.
