News) \u2014 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to a house fire about 10-p.m. Tuesday (Jul 31, 2012), in Northwest Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Sheldon Mohr says the fire at 301 4th Avenue Northwest caused extensive damage to the second floor interior of the home. No dollar estimate was available.<\/p>\n<p>No other structures were involved.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries were reported, as all occupants escaped the house.<\/p>\n<p>Seven units of the city fire department were on the scene for almost two hours, and included 30 fire fighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter, and Jamestown Salvation Army, gave assistance to the family, along with temporary lodging.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; The Jamestown City Council will attend an August 7, 2012 Stutsman County Commission meeting, at the courthouse, at 4-p.m. to hear a presentation by Jail Consultant, David Prachar.<\/p>\n<p>He will give his findings and analysis of staffing and operations of the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation is expected to last about three hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A North Dakota man convicted of<br \/>\nshooting and beheading a North Dakota State University researcher<br \/>\nwill spend the rest of his life behind bars.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge James Hovey sentenced Daniel Wacht on Wednesday to life in<br \/>\nprison with no parole.<\/p>\n<p>Wacht&#8217;s attorney had asked for life with the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n<p>Wacht declined to speak at the sentencing.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A jury in April found Wacht guilty of murder in the death of<br \/>\n54-year-old Kurt Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say Wacht killed Johnson to prove his worth to a white supremacist group.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Johnson was last seen alive outside a Cooperstown bar on New<br \/>\nYear&#8217;s Eve 2010.<\/p>\n<p>His severed head was found in a crawl space in Wacht&#8217;s basement. His body has not been found.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Korwin Johnson says his brother&#8217;s killing was a &#8220;senseless,<br \/>\nbrutal crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm has revoked the license of a Bismarck insurance agent facing criminal charges.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brent Kitzan faces 27 felony counts relating to alleged theft,<br \/>\ninsurance fraud and securities fraud between 2003 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Hamm late last year had ordered Kitzan to stop doing business in the<br \/>\nstate.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court documents do not list an attorney for Kitzan, and his home<br \/>\ntelephone number has been disconnected.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Securities Commissioner Karen Tyler has ordered a Fargo-based company and its agent to stop doing securities business in the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tyler says Freedom USA Investing LLC has offered to sell unregistered securities.<\/p>\n<p>She also says the company is not registered with her department and James Young is not a registered securities agent.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Young says the problems arose from a misunderstanding over advertising on a company website page and that the page has been removed.<\/p>\n<p>He says the company is honest and straightforward.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers<br \/>\npulled more than 50 trucks off the road and issued more than $8,000<br \/>\nin fines during a recent enforcement effort in the western oil<br \/>\npatch.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sgt. Mitch Rumple says the 12-person inspection team found nearly 500 violations during the effort late last week.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rumple says he was surprised by the number of truck drivers who<br \/>\nweren&#8217;t aware they needed a higher-class license. And about two<br \/>\ndozen trucks were overweight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota lawmakers are going through a<br \/>\nsheaf of ideas to cut local property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some proposed bills would exempt part of a home&#8217;s value from<br \/>\nproperty tax.<\/p>\n<p>Some would give bigger exemptions to people who are older than 65.<\/p>\n<p>And others would give property tax breaks only to older North Dakotans.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature&#8217;s interim Taxation Committee is going through<br \/>\nthe bills Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Minot state Sen. David Hogue (hohg) is the committee&#8217;s chairman.<br \/>\nHe says the panel will be making recommendations later about which<br \/>\nproposals to support in the Legislature.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The bills that include partial property tax exemptions would<br \/>\nrequire homeowners to file a form every year.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Local tax assessors don&#8217;t like that idea. (AP) &#8211; The new chancellor of the North Dakota<br \/>\nUniversity System has replaced the system&#8217;s chief academic officer<br \/>\nand says other top-level personnel changes might be coming.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Chancellor Hamid Shirvani (HAH&#8217;-mihd shur-VAH&#8217;-nee) told state<br \/>\nlawmakers on Tuesday that Michel (MY&#8217;-kuhl) Hillman has been<br \/>\nappointed to work for Bismarck State College.<\/p>\n<p>Hillman had been the university system&#8217;s vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shirvani he says Hillman was reappointed not because of his job performance but because Shirvani thought a change was needed.<\/p>\n<p>Hillman is on vacation and unavailable for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Japan&#8217;s ambassador to the United States<br \/>\nsays he&#8217;s glad North Dakotans don&#8217;t sound like they do in the movie<br \/>\n&#8220;Fargo.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In a visit to Bismarck on Tuesday, Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki<br \/>\ntried to blend in by singing the cowboy folk song &#8220;Red River<br \/>\nValley.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fujisaki held a news conference Tuesday with Gov. Jack<br \/>\nDalrymple.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They talked about North Dakota&#8217;s chances for expanded trade with Japan.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple is from eastern North Dakota&#8217;s Red River Valley.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador says that inspired him to try singing the folk song. (AP) &#8211; Emails submitted by California<br \/>\nprosecutors indicate that a university professor was considering<br \/>\ngetting a dozen machine guns and shooting at least 200 students at<br \/>\na high school &#8212; the school attended by his son before he committed<br \/>\nsuicide.<\/p>\n<p>The boy had been disciplined by school officials shortly before he took his own life in March.<\/p>\n<p>Emails filed in court show that Rainer Reinscheid wrote about wanting to shoot administrators at the high school before killing himself.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s already behind bars on arson charges related to a series of small fires.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) &#8211; Maryland prosecutors say a man<br \/>\naccused of threatening to shoot up his workplace and identifying<br \/>\nhimself as &#8220;a joker&#8221; has been charged with misdemeanor telephone<br \/>\nmisuse.<\/p>\n<p>The charge could bring up to three years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Prescott was taken into custody last Friday after the threats were<br \/>\nreported to police.<\/p>\n<p>He has been receiving an emergency psychiatric evaluation at a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they found ammunition and about two dozen weapons, including semi-automatic rifles and pistols, in his apartment.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW ORLEANS (AP) &#8211; A publicist for Cuba Gooding Jr. says the<br \/>\nactor has met with New Orleans police, and is working to try to<br \/>\nresolve what the publicist calls a &#8220;misunderstanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He was issued a court summons after a New Orleans bartender said he had<br \/>\npushed her.<\/p>\n<p>The bartender said Gooding became upset after patrons started asking him to pose for pictures with them.
