Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi) \u00a0The Spiritwood Energy Park Board of Directors is visiting with New Energy Blue, the company with plans for \u00a0a cellulosic ethanol plant, there, \u00a0and in talks with North Dakota Soybean Processors, planning a soybean crushing plant.<\/p>\n

SEPA Chief Operating officer Connie Ova says, she has spoken \u00a0with New Energy Blue, and North Dakota Soybean Processors, and that neither project is ready to announce their plans.<\/p>\n

The SEPA Board approved a change for the current tenant, \u00a0Dakota Spirit AgEnergy, concerning \u00a0how road assessments, loan payments and maintenance charges are calculated.<\/p>\n

CENTER, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Two New Salem residents are dead and a third injured after a one-vehicle crash in Oliver County.The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the car the three people were in went out of control on a curve on a rural road and rolled in the ditch shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday.The 55-year-old man driving the car died at the scene about half a mile south of Center, as did a 54-year-old male passenger. A 52-year-old female passenger was taken to a Bismarck hospital with injuries the patrol says are not life-threatening.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Nurses at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck have voted to unionize two years after rejecting a similar move to join the Minnesota Nurses Association.<\/p>\n

The union says an “overwhelming majority” of nurses voted in favor of unionizing in voting Tuesday and Wednesday. In 2017 when the nurses rejected the union some expressed concern with operational changes they said were harming patient care, as well as layoffs and large workloads.<\/p>\n

The Bismarck Tribune reports says CHI St. Alexius Health spokeswoman Ellen Holt says the hospital would have preferred to work with nurses directly, but is committed to providing exceptional care.<\/p>\n

The union declined to release the vote tally.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota’s Republican-led Legislature believes it should be tougher for citizens to amend the state constitution.<\/p>\n

The House on Wednesday voted 65-26 to raise to 60 percent the margin necessary for voters to approve a constitutional amendment, instead of a majority.<\/p>\n

The Senate passed a similar resolution 34-12 on Wednesday. But senators also want to double the number of signatures required to put a measure before voters. The Senate resolution also changes the deadline to submit signatures from 120 days to 240 days prior to an election.<\/p>\n

Votes in both chambers largely fell along party lines, with Democrats dissenting. Senators will now review the House resolution, and vice versa.<\/p>\n

Any resolution passed by both chambers would have to be approved by voters.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has signed his first bill of the legislative session.<\/p>\n

The first-term Republican governor on Wednesday signed the bipartisan legislation that removes mandatory minimum sentences for some drug crimes.<\/p>\n

The bill allows judges to depart from the mandatory sentence guidelines and decide their own punishment.<\/p>\n

There were more than 900 bills introduced in the legislative session that began in January.<\/p>\n

EDMORE, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A pastor in Ramsey County has pleaded guilty to stealing from his church and been sentenced.<\/p>\n

Donald Reynolds was accused of taking nearly $35,000 from High Plains Ministry in Edmore over a 14-year period, by receiving reimbursements for bogus charges.<\/p>\n

KFGO radio reports he’s been sentenced to a month in jail or 300 hours of community service, three years of probation and restitution.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The manager of a horse racing track in Fargo has been fired for derogatory remarks he allegedly made on social media about two people opposed to a bill in the Legislature that would financially help the park.<\/p>\n

The head of the board of directors for the North Dakota Horse Park tells KFGO radio he had no choice but to fire manager Mike Schmitz after Schmitz wrote on Facebook that one of the men who has spoken out against the bill was cheating on his wife and is a cocaine user.<\/p>\n

Board leader Levi Otis says the vote to fire Schmitz was unanimous.<\/p>\n

The legislative proposal would help the track pay off a large special assessment bill to the city of Fargo.<\/p>\n

Schmitz didn’t return phone messages left by The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified those involved in a fatal crash this week near Watford City.<\/p>\n

Fifteen-year-old Elizondo Joe died from injuries suffered when the SUV in which he was a passenger collided with a semi on Highway 23 near Watford City Monday. The SUV’s driver, 18-year-old Clinton Tsosie, and passengers 14-year-old Albertina Joe, 11-year-old Neveah Joe and 7-year-old Johnathan Joe were injured.<\/p>\n

The patrol says the SUV rear-ended the semi as it slowed to make a turn. The semi driver wasn’t hurt.<\/p>\n

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.<\/strong>\u2013\u00a0 (uj.edu) \u2013 Terrell Alfred<\/a> (JR\/Orlando, FL)\u2019s career-high 30 points and 10 rebouns\u00a0helped lead the 10th-ranked University of Jamestown men\u2019s basketball team to a 106-85 win over No. 24 Southeastern (Fla.) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Men\u2019s Baskeball National Championship.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (29-5) advances to face No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) (26-7) Friday morning at 8:30.<\/p>\n

Alfred scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half as the Jimmies used a 20-7 run to turn an eight-point lead into a 21-point cushion.<\/p>\n

Brock Schrom<\/a> (SO\/Grand Rapids, MN) aided Alfred\u2019s second half efforts, as he had 16 of his 24 points after the break.<\/p>\n

UJ led 71-63 after Dylan Causwell converted a three-point play for SEU, then went up 10 points after Kevin Oberweiser<\/a> (SR\/Drummond, MT) sank a pair of free throws five seconds later, and would lead by no fewer than 10 the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

A 21-7 run lasting 3:20 put Jamestown up by 22 with 5:40 to play and all but ended Southeastern\u2019s hopes of pulling off the upset. While the Jimmies shot only two free throws in the first half, an increased effort to drive the ball to the rim in the second half resulted in SEU committing 18 fouls that led to 26 free throw attempts.<\/p>\n

In the first half, UJ led 32-18 following a Jack Talley<\/a> (SO\/Sioux Falls, SD) basket at 7:27. SEU outscored the Jimmies 14-4 over the next 4:51 and found themselves down only four before Jamestown closed out the half\u00a0with 11 of the final 18 points. The first two minutes\u00a0featured three lead changes and two ties before UJ took the lead for good just at the 18:00 mark of the first.<\/p>\n

Oberweiser finished with 19 to join Alfred and Schrom in double figures. Schrom also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.<\/p>\n

Causwell led the Fire (20-10)\u00a0with 17 points off the bench. Jeremy Oppenheimer and Josiah Barsh finished with 16 and Quennel Francis chipped in with 15.<\/p>\n

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) \u2014 Andrew Bogut (BOH’-guht) is rejoining the Golden State Warriors after being cleared by his Australian team, the Sydney Kings.<\/p>\n

Golden State had an open roster spot and chose to use it at center to replace Damian Jones, who is recovering from surgery for a torn left pectoral muscle.<\/p>\n

The first overall pick in the 2005 draft appeared in 23 games for the Lakers last season and made five starts, averaging 1.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 9.4 minutes.<\/p>\n

He played on the Warriors’ 2015 champion team and the 73-win team the following season.<\/p>\n

LSU escapes, Marquette falls again<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Tenth-ranked LSU narrowly avoided a road loss as the Tigers try to wrap up at least a share of the SEC regular-season title.<\/p>\n

Tremont Waters provided tying and go-ahead baskets to help the Tigers beat Florida, 79-78 in overtime. Waters dribbled the length of the court for the tying basket with three seconds remaining in regulation, then hit a 3-pointer early in OT. Waters finished with 19 points, six assists and six turnovers for LSU, which is 15-2 in the conference following its eighth win in nine games.<\/p>\n

In the other top-25 final:<\/p>\n

\u2014 No. 16 Marquette absorbed its third straight loss as Myles Powell poured in 34 points to lead Seton Hall’s 73-64 win over the Golden Eagles. NHL…NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) \u2014 Ryan Johansen scored the lone goal in a shootout and the Nashville Predators beat Minnesota 5-4 for their second win against the Wild in three nights. Johansen also got the game-winner in the fourth round of a shootout Sunday at Minnesota. This time, he scored after Kyle Turris, Ryan Ellis and Filip Forsberg all were stopped. Ryan Donato had one last chance, only to see Predators goalie Pekka Rinne stop his shot.UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Washington Capitals have recaptured sole possession of first place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division and kept the Philadelphia Flyers seven points out of an Eastern Conference playoff berth.Alex Ovechkin (oh-VEHCH’-kihn) pumped in his league-leading 46th goal while the Capitals were building a 5-0 lead in a 5-3 victory at Philadelphia. Washington already led 2-0 until Ovechkin, Andre Burakovsky and Nicklas Backstrom scored during a 3:05 span early in the second period.<\/p>\n

Ovechkin also set up Tom Wilson’s goal and Dmitri Orlov had two assists as the Caps moved two points ahead of the Islanders in their division race.<\/p>\n

It was Braden Holtby’s 250th career victory as he stopped 27 shots in his 409th game. He’s the second-fastest netminder to reach 250 wins, topped only by Ken Dryden.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on NHL ice:<\/p>\n

\u2014 Deryk Engelland snapped a 1-1 deadlock with 10 \u00bd minutes remaining before the Golden Knights completed a 2-1 win against the Flames. Shea Theodore also scored, William Karlsson had two assists and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 33 shots as Vegas kept Calgary three points ahead of the Sharks for the Western Conference lead.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Canucks pulled out a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Alex Edler’s goal 3:11 into overtime. Goals by Morgan Rielly and Ron Hainsey gave Toronto a 2-0 lead before the Leafs lost for the first time this season when leading after two periods.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Robert Thomas and Alex Pietrangelo (peh-TRAN’-jeh-loh) scored in the final 64 seconds to send the Blues past the Ducks, 5-4. Thomas tied it with is second goal of the night and Pietrangelo tallied just 12 seconds later to give St. Louis its first win in three games.<\/p>\n

MLB NEWS<\/p>\n

Dodgers still hoping for Kershaw in opener<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Clayton Kershaw has not yet been ruled out for opening day by the Los Angeles Dodgers despite all the time he’s missed at spring training with a sore left shoulder.<\/p>\n

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that, for now at least, Kershaw remains scheduled to start March 28 for the two-time defending NL champions. However, that possibility seems unlikely based on the progress the three-time Cy Young Award winner would need to make in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

In other MLB news:<\/p>\n

\u2014 Yankees ace Luis Severino expects to resume a throwing program in two weeks. Severino will miss his scheduled opening-day start on March 28 because of right-shoulder inflammation. SAN DIEGO (AP) \u2014 The Trump administration’s effort to make asylum seekers wait in Mexico explicitly targets Spanish-speakers and people from Latin America.<\/p>\n

Internal guidelines obtained by The Associated Press also say those who cross illegally must have come as single adults, though the administration is in talks with Mexico to include families. LGBT asylum seekers, pregnant women and those with medical issues are also not to be sent back to Mexico.<\/p>\n

The policy launched in San Diego in January is a top priority for U.S. officials to address the burgeoning number of Central Americans arriving at the U.S. border.<\/p>\n

The instructions say Mexican officials insist that no more than 20 asylum seekers are returned each day from San Diego to Tijuana, Mexico, underscoring challenges that the U.S. faces with the effort.<\/p>\n

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) \u2014 South Korea’s military says it’s carefully monitoring North Korean nuclear and missile facilities after the country’s spy agency told lawmakers that new activity was detected at a research center where the North presumably builds its long-range missiles targeting the U.S. mainland.<\/p>\n

Seoul’s Defense Ministry spokeswoman Choi Hyun-soo said Thursday the U.S. and South Korean militaries are maintaining close intelligence coordination over developments at the North’s missile research center in Pyongyang and also a separate long-range rocket site. She did not elaborate what the developments were.<\/p>\n

But a lawmaker says Seoul’s spy chief in a closed-door intelligence briefing said increased vehicle movement was spotted at the Pyongyang facility.<\/p>\n
