Syracuse infielder Danny Espinosa and RailRiders first baseman Logan Morrison were each suspended three games and fined. The amount of the fines were not disclosed.

Mobley said that apart from substance abuse violation suspensions, Caminero’s suspension was the longest for an IL player that he could remember in recent times.

There is no formal appeal process for the players. Mobley said they are free to reach out to him to further discuss the matter, although he said he’s already been in contact with most of the involved parties.

The trouble started Sunday night, when Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Mike Ford homered off Caminero. As he rounded first on his home run trot, Ford had some sort of celebratory gesture with the first-base coach. Mobley said he thinks it was a football pantomime, something along the lines of a pretend play-action pass between the two.

The Mets took great exception to that. Caminero hit the next batter, Breyvic Valera, on the upper back, earning an immediate ejection from home plate ump Charlie Ramos.

As Valera headed toward first base, Espinosa, playing shortstop, shouted toward Ford at the RailRiders dugout, ramping up the jawing. Espinosa headed toward the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre side along with several teammates.

Espinosa said he was simply trying to let Ford know why the Mets were upset.

“A guy was hit. One thing I said was the reason why he was hit, not to say that I condoned anything. But when you’re in this game you know when it’s going to happen,” Espinosa said Monday.

Previously…

(Syracuse.com) The AAA International League farm teams of the New York Mets, the Syracuse Mets, and the New York Yankees, Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders became confrontational on Sunday afternoon game atNBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.

The Syracuse Mets and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders spill out of their dugouts for a confrontation after Mets pitcher Arquimedes Caminero plunked Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Breyvic Valera.

The previous hitter, Mike Ford, had homered and Syracuse was upset by some of his antics as he rounded the bases.

You TubeVideo courtesy of MiLB.com

Syracuse, N.Y. (syracuse.com) — International League president Randy Mobley has suspended and fined three players as a result of a pair of altercations in last weekend’s Syracuse Mets-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre series at NBT Stadium.
