BISMARCK, N.D. (AP Apr 25, 2013) – A North Dakota news anchorman who was fired after a profanity-laced debut joked with David Letterman that he’d like a job with the ESPN cable sports network.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A.J. Clemente appeared on Letterman’s late night talk show Wednesday, chatting with the host about uttering two obscenities just as cameras began to roll Sunday night. He was fired Monday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Clemente has become an Internet sensation and has appeared on national talk shows including “The Late Show.” When Letterman asked him if he wanted his job back, Clemente replied, “I’ve thought about it, but if, you know, ESPN comes knocking …”

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Letterman said “that ain’t gonna happen,” and told Clemente he was trying to get him his job back in Bismarck. KFYR-TV General Manager Dick Heidt (hyt) declined comment on that prospect.<\/p>\n

A.J. Clemente’s first stint as an anchor at KFYR-TV on Sunday night was also his last after he uttered two obscenities just as cameras began to roll. Clemente was fired for the tongue-slip Monday.<\/p>\n

By Wednesday, he was making appearances on national talk shows as a bit of a celebrity. On “Live with Kelly and Michael,” hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan offered Clemente a job interviewing celebrities on the red carpet at Pierce Brosnan’s new movie “Love Is All You Need.”

The Bismarck anchorman fired after opening his first-ever broadcast with a pair of obscenities will appear on CBS’ \u201cThe Late Show\u201d with David Letterman Wednesday night.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThe Late Show\u201d announced via its Twitter account Tuesday night that it would feature fired reporter A.J. Clemente on its Wednesday night show.<\/p>\n

While in New York, Clemente also made an appearance on NBC’s \u201cToday\u201d show Wednesday morning. Clemente was put on suspension by employer KFYR-TV, owned by Hoak Media, following the Sunday broadcast and fired Monday.<\/p>\n

Video of Clemente\u2019s broadcast immediately began circulating on social media sites. Many of his Twitter followers jumped to his defense and called for the station to rehire him.<\/p>\n
