Tanya Couture, Board Member, \u00a0says “In years past there was the Christmas Raffle button and grand prizes attached to the button raffle.\u00a0 After review thepast few years, have shown a rapid decline in participation in the button raffle with last year seeing the worst numbers in history.”<\/p>\n
She says prizes are no longer a draw to participate either.<\/p>\n
She adds, that, there are prizes that are left unclaimed that have a value of $20 to $200 plus dollars!\u00a0 She adds, \u201cIt is simply mind boggling to us ALL on the commerce committee that a prize of $200 isn\u2019t enough of a draw or value to get a persons attention.\u201d<\/p>\n
She says the chamber of commerce committee, has been reassessing events and\u00a0 “We will be trying new approaches to bring the community of Valley City fun and entertaining ways to support and interact with our local businesses.”<\/p>\n
She did point out that an event that was very well received, was the Construction Cash.\u00a0 There were well over 13,000,<\/strong> participants in that event.<\/p>\n Christmas in the Valley 2019 will introduce \u201cThe 12 Days of Christmas!\u201d\u00a0 running from December 6th<\/sup> through the 23rd (only business days count, no weekends).<\/p>\n The chamber will be distributing boxes, much like Construction Cash, and the slips for people to sign up.\u00a0 No purchase is necessary to sign up and participate.\u00a0 The commerce committee or participating businesses will make gift baskets to coordinate with each of the 12 days of Christmas.\u00a0 The chamber asks that businesses pick a day they would like to help with, either contributing items for the theme of that day or simply making a monetary donation to cover the costs incurred to run this event.<\/p>\n Here is a list of the 12 days of Christmas and some ideas for filling the gift baskets:<\/p>\n * Day 1:\u00a0 partridge in a pear tree<\/p>\n + Pear soap<\/p>\n + Pear candles<\/p>\n + Pear lotion<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 2:\u00a0 two turtle doves<\/p>\n + Turtle candy in a pair of champagne flutes<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 3:\u00a0 3 French hens<\/p>\n + Gift certificate for a chicken dinner<\/p>\n + French beret and scarf set<\/p>\n + Book about French cooking<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 4:\u00a0 Four calling Birds<\/p>\n + Bird feeder<\/p>\n + Bird identification book (bird watching basket)<\/p>\n + 4 angry bird launchers or angry bird themed items<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 5:\u00a0 5 Gold Rings<\/p>\n + Gold napkin rings with holiday themed cloth napkins<\/p>\n + Gold rings and earrings<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 6:\u00a0 6 Geese a Laying<\/p>\n + Goose down filled throw and pillows<\/p>\n + Chocolate cr\u00e8me filled eggs (6 of them)<\/p>\n + Goose down filled gloves<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 7:\u00a0 7 swans a swimming<\/p>\n + Origami swans<\/p>\n + Swan shaped soap<\/p>\n + Bubble bath with rubber duckie<\/p>\n + Swan scarf<\/p>\n + Swan necklace or bracelet<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 8:\u00a0 8 maids a milking<\/p>\n + Milkmaid caramels<\/p>\n + Hot chocolate mix<\/p>\n + Cow print socks<\/p>\n + Goat milk soap<\/p>\n + Milk lotion<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 9:\u00a0 Nine ladies dancing<\/p>\n + 9 pairs of socks<\/p>\n + Foot lotion<\/p>\n + Ballet slipper necklace<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 10:\u00a0 10 Lords a leaping<\/p>\n + Men\u2019s care package<\/p>\n + Men\u2019s slippers<\/p>\n + Men\u2019s shave kit<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 11:\u00a0 11 pipers pipping<\/p>\n + Wind chimes<\/p>\n <\/p>\n * Day 12:\u00a0 12 drummers drumming<\/p>\n + Ice cream drumsticks<\/p>\n + Drum of popcorn<\/p>\n + Drumsticks<\/p>\n + Men\u2019s socks with drums on them<\/p>\n + Men\u2019s tie with drums on it<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ms. Couture points out more holiday events:<\/p>\n Ladies Day\u00a0 November 9th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Small Business Week November 25th – December 2nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Holiday Parade of Lights December 5th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tour of Snowmen will run November 30th – December 23rd.
