\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Transportation Department says floodwaters have receded from state Highway 66 east of Egeland and traffic speeds have returned to normal.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Speeds still are reduced on N.D. Highway 14 south of the U.S. 2 junction near Towner due to floodwaters, and state Highway 17 remains closed at the bridge crossing the Red River in Walsh County.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Transportation Department says water has receded from U.S. Highway 81 south of Minto and it is once again safe for travel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Transportation officials say traffic speeds have returned to normal on Highway 81 south of Hamilton, where floodwaters have now receded.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out about 11:02 p.m., Thursday (May 2, 2013) to an area near I-94 Exit 258, between R.M. Stoudt and Jamestown Regional Medical Center, near the westbound lane of I-94.<\/p>\n

Lt. Sheldon Mohr said a power pole was on fire and burned grass in the area.<\/p>\n

No damage to the pole, with less than a 10th of an acre of grass burned. The fire did not reach a nearby tree line.<\/p>\n

Otter Tail Power crews were called to the scene to check the pole and wires.<\/p>\n

The cause was listed as electrical<\/p>\n

The five fire units and 26 city fire fighters were on the scene about 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News May 2, 2013) \u2013 Jamestown School Board meeting on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 5:15 pm has been moved to the Middle School Gymnasium located at 203 2nd<\/sup> Avenue SE, Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Robert Toso says, he expects upwards of 200 people to attend the meeting.<\/p>\n

He said one of the first items on the agenda is to rescind the recent school board vote that denied hiring Jeff Nold, to a teaching position.<\/p>\n

At the April 25, 2013 meeting the school board, on a 5-3 vote, turned down hiring Jamestown High School Principal Bill Nold\u2019s son, Jeff for a business teacher position, after a contentious discussion.<\/p>\n

Jeff Nold is the son of Bill Nold, principal of Jamestown High School \u2014 where the position of business teacher now remains vacant.<\/p>\n

He said following rescinding the April 25th vote, school board is able to discuss again, hiring Jeff Nold, and then vote again on whether or not he should be hired.<\/p>\n

At the April 25ht meeting, voting in favor of hiring Jeff Nold were board members, Diane Hanson, Gail Martin and Greg Allen.<\/p>\n

Opposed were board members Roger Haut, Roy Musland, Roger Haut, Shelly Jystad and Terry Anderson.<\/p>\n

Board member Heidi Larson was not present during the vote.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News May 2, 2013) — The James River Community Center, in Jamestown hopes to be moved and opened at the new location at Legacy Place, in the former Jamestown Hospital location, on Tuesday May 7, 2013.<\/p>\n

With an update On Thursday\u2019s (May 2, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Director, Laurie McGuire said, changes in meals and activities will be happening this week, allow the move to take place.<\/p>\n

She said, on Friday (May 3, 2013,) the regular lunch will be served, then, in the afternoon starting at 1:30-p.m. no activities will be held, as the move to the new location starts.<\/p>\n

Volunteers are welcome to help with the move starting Friday afternoon. Just come to the present location at 502 10th<\/sup> Avenue, Southeast in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, May 4th<\/sup>, and Sunday May 5th<\/sup>, only frozen meals will be available.<\/p>\n

On Monday May 6th<\/sup>, frozen meals will be offered, and no activities will be held.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, May 7th<\/sup>, The James River Community Center is planning to open in their new facility at Legacy Place, at the former Jamestown Hospital location.<\/p>\n

She added that this week her office is working to keep the current phone number at the new location.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that there will be no changes in the James River Transit phone number or services.<\/p>\n

She added the buses will still be garaged at the present location which is owned by Center One, as the bus drivers will drop off patrons at the new Legacy Place location, at the former Jamestown Hospital location, and work with the staff there on transportation arrangements with patrons.<\/p>\n

Those coming to the new location, starting on Tuesday May 7, 2013 will be able to enter the ground level location, either by coming in the south door, the west door across from Lincoln School, or the front door of the former hospital, and then taking the elevator to the ground level location.<\/p>\n

There will be tours of the new facility at Legacy Place, to familiarize patrons with the lay out and the services available, including lunch and other activities.<\/p>\n

Laurie thanks Essentia Health for the donation of office furniture and equipment from when Essentia moved to their new clinic location on the campus of Jamestown Regional Medical Center.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News May 2, 2013) — Commercial airline boardings at Jamestown Regional Airport were at 162 in April 2013, compared to 185 in April of 2012.<\/p>\n

Airport Manage, Matthew Leitner, on Thursdays\u2019 (May 2, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 said, in May of 2012 boardings were 193, and he anticipates an increase to over 300 boarding in May this year.<\/p>\n

Leitner pointed out that plans are being made to construction t-hangars at the airport, noting good public input on the topic from the recent public meeting.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s still to be decided if the new hangars would be owned and leased by the airport, and privately owned.<\/p>\n

Leitner said this summer airport projects will include installing new gates, a new rotating beacon, and improved runway lighting.<\/p>\n

He said Great Lakes Airlines is keeping the current flight schedule.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Engineer\u2019s Office will be conducting survey work, beginning Monday May 6, 2013, in and around the river area in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The work is part of the on-going U.S.Army Corps of Engineer\u2019s River Study, and should be completed in 2-3 weeks.<\/p>\n

The data to be collected includes first floor and low opening elevations of home and businesses near the river, which will require city crews to be on numerous individual private properties for short periods of time.<\/p>\n

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KCSi-T.V. News May 2, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, selected Tower City, N.D., resident Scott Tichy as one of its three Civil Servants of the Year this year.<\/p>\n

The St. Paul District presents this award annually to the top three or four of its 700 employees. Tichy, who’s worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 21 years, is a park ranger and natural resource specialist at Lake Asthabula in Valley City, N.D.<\/p>\n

Tichy received this award in recognition for his outstanding support to his community during the past year. In addition to the excellent interpretation and community relations work he did at Lake Ashtabula, he supported his local park board and Ducks Unlimited chapter.<\/p>\n

Rich Schueneman, Tichy’s supervisor, says, “Scott is an outstanding park ranger. He possesses excellent community relations skills as seen in his involvement with his church, his interpretation of Corps Water Safety messages and his work with various community groups, providing expertise in trail maintenance, construction, forestry and recreation. A passion for the outdoors, a strong commitment to community and family and outstanding leadership skills are hallmarks of Scott’s career at the Corps of Engineers.”<\/p>\n

Tichy will receive his award at the 36th Annual Minnesota Federal Civil Servant of the Year Awards in St. Paul, Minn., May 3.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (May 2, 2013) \u2013 Gov. Jack Dalrymple signed into law House Bills 1012 and 1020, important legislation that will enhance North Dakota\u2019s quality of life by providing services to the state\u2019s most vulnerable citizens and investing in North Dakota\u2019s water supply, and flood protection and water management projects.<\/p>\n

Dalrymple was joined by legislators and other state officials during a signing ceremony at the state Capitol.<\/p>\n

A Bill signed into law allocates $31 million that will support both Sheyenne River and Devils Lake flood control.<\/p>\n

On the Sheyenne, $21 million will be used for permanent flood control projects in Valley City, Lisbon, and Fort Ransom, including property acquisitions, and flood walls and levees.<\/p>\n

For Devils Lake, $10 million will continue operations of the east and west end outlets that continue reducing water levels and flooding.<\/p>\n

For general water management statewide, House Bill 1020 includes $33 million for rural and other flood control, dam safety, repairs and reconstructions; snagging and clearing; studies and planning; and Devils Lake outlet downstream mitigation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – No people or animals were hurt in a barn fire at a North Dakota ranch with a reputation for producing some of the best rodeo bucking bulls in the world.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mandan Rural Fire Chief Lynn Gustin says the blaze Thursday afternoon destroyed the barn belonging to Chad Berger. Gustin says there were some saddles, tack and hay bales inside the barn.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The cause of the fire was not immediately determined. The Berger family declined comment.<\/p>\n

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) – The FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs are investigating an apparent homicide on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation in North Dakota.

\u00a0WALES, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have identified a northeastern North Dakota man who died after his vehicle became partially submerged in floodwaters in Cavalier County.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says 51-year-old Steve Feil, of Hannah, apparently attempted to cross a road that had been washed out, then tried to walk through the frigid waters when his pickup truck became stuck and he succumbed to the cold.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Feil’s body was found Wednesday morning about 200 yards from his pickup, about 8 miles from Wales.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities are continuing to search for 55-year-old Guy Miller, whose pickup was swept off a Walsh County road by floodwaters Monday near Minto.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The next two-year budget for North Dakota’s Department of Human Services has broken a billion-dollar barrier.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 state House and Senate have approved a Human Services budget that calls for state general fund spending of just under $1.2 billion – a record state agency budget.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Human Services is the largest state agency, with more than 2,100 employees. Total spending for the department including federal money is estimated at just under $3 billion over the next two years.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Human Services budget bill now goes to Gov. Jack Dalrymple for his signature.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0 Former U.S. Sen. Kent Conrad called Guy a giant in North Dakota political history. Conrad says Guy was an architect of development strategy for this state.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Former Sen. Byron Dorgan recalls Guy traveling the state and talking with “bankers and barbers, presidents and plumbers.” Dorgan says Guy didn’t come to office to be somebody, he wanted to do something.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Two Montana oilmen who do a lot of work in North Dakota have a horse in the race in Kentucky, as well – literally.<\/p>\n

Billings residents Carter Stewart and Ken Schlenker own a horse that is running in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. It’s named Frac Daddy, a take on the oil drilling technique known as fracking.<\/p>\n

Stewart says the horse is a tribute to all of the oil field workers in America and especially the Williston Basin in the Dakotas and Montana.<\/p>\n

Frac Daddy’s odds of winning are posted at 50-1, but Stewart says he’s optimistic. He says he thinks the horse has a shot.
